I think he goes to SJ 3 year deal 6 million per though they would not pay an aging Marleu so maybe they will not

Difference is, Marleau was there for years, and they didn't win, so they probably thought it more as changing the locker room than he wasn't worth it.

Hayes is an RFA. We need a center more than we need a winger.

I was just going to edit that, that you were coming from the C angle....

From all reports though, management disagrees, they are going to run Kopitar, Carter, Kempe, and Thomspon/Amadio/Lewis, whoever on 4th line....

They aren't gonna budge from Kempe playing C.

Yes, I think so also.

They aren't gonna budge from Kempe playing C.
But what happens if his FO% doesn't improve? You can't be a full time center in the NHL when you're sub 40% on the dot, or even sub 45% for that matter.

Wha? Did you see how many Kings wingers scored 20+ goals last season? They do need a 3rd line C, but they need a competent winger even more so. Unless you think Iafallo is just fine in that spot.
The Kings need to be able to roll their top 3 lines more evenly. Adding a winger doesn't solve that problem. With a center you can move Kempe to wing. Plus they'll probably have Vilardi playing wing.

I'm not saying they don't need a winger, they do, I just think they need a center more.

They need both but it appears priority #1 is LW. There are competent 3C's available via free agency.

The only way I would deal Vilardi to the Habs would be a deal like this:

Kings send Vilardi, 1st round, and Clague

Habs trades 3OVA, Pachs (signed).

The deal makes sense for both parties. Kings get a high level prospect to continue to restock their cupboard and a proven 30 goal scorer for their "win now" without jeopardizing the future. Habs finally get a potential 1st or 2nd line center, and a young defenseman. They also get to have a 1st rounder.

What about one of the guys the Wild are supposedly dangling, Nino, Coyle or Zucker?

Coyle still signed for 2 more years at $3.2 million.

Nino, 4 years left at $5.25 million.

Zucker is an RFA and is due for a pretty good raise.

All 3 in their mid 20’s.

There are question marks about wings / center slots. 3 of Carter, Kempe and Vilardi can play wing or center. I actually think Kempe is better at center, than wing, Carter is equally adept at w or c.
I think it would be possible to have Kempe centering Pearson and Carter and letting Carter take the faceoffs. Kempe scored all 16 of his goals on line 2 and can produce there. He's only going to get
better. I would trade Toffoli.

A new report from someone says that they believe Kovalchuk ends up in LA. That's fine by me. He can easily score 30 goals with Kopitar. Even though he's 35, they say he's in the best shape
of his life. Now you take away Iafallo's 9 goals and turn them into 30 goals Kovalchuk can score, LA could have been #1 in the Pacific. The 11 points behind Vegas, could have been eclipsed,
with 20 more goals for.

Sure, everyone would love Tavares and even more, but that's up to Tavares and not Rob Blake. If the Kings can sign Kovalchuk, they're in pretty good shape. If they cannot,
hopefully they can get Pacioretty or Skinner or someone of that level.

Truth be known, the 2012 and 2014 cups were won, LARGELY from the trade deadline deals - Carter in 2012 and Gaborik in 2014. Carter was stellar and gave the Kings a formidable top
6 and dominated...and Gaborik LED the NHL in playoff goals. Those 2 cups had a lot to do with those 2 key deadline deals.

I see no need to panic, if the Kings make 1 move in increasing offense and at the deadline, get what they need.
Several good things in a deadline deal: 1. you will know what you need. 2. you will know the TRUE value of: Vilardi and Bickley...and to a lesser degree, JAD and Clague, who will
have had a half season in the AHL. ANY of those 4 excelling, they have greater trade value then, than now. You have less of a gamble at the trade deadline. Not saying to shy
away of making moves now, though.

I wouldn't do that if the Habs added the #3 overall!

Vilardi > Tkachuk, Zadina, Kotkaniemi. He was the #1 player in all of junior last year and still 18 years old. If he was born 30 days later, he would be selected 2 or 3 tonight.

Clague was best defenseman in the WHL last year and has the most talent of any King defenseman selected since Doughty. He had 12 goals and 73 assists (playoffs included) for 85 points and has the speed and skill necessary for today's defensemen.

the #1 20 overall will also land a top prospect.

Pacioretty scored 37 pts last year..the same 37 points Kempe scored. That's WAY overpayment.

Based upon our needs, and the fact that if we're coughing up Vilardi MTL is coming to US at this point, an unsigned Patches shouldn't cost a Clague and Vilardi. 20th + Vilardi for Patches + 3rd makes sense to me, maybe a small plus form us, but not our best defensive prospect. MTL needs LD I say you could add Martinez and maybe a second on MTL's end and maybe it would be fair. I probably would still be mad though.

More smoke coming up in regards to the Kings making some sort of big deal. I guess it won't be long until we know which they pull the trigger on. All that seems to be for certain a big trigger will be pulled.

Exciting times.

Still have heard little in the way of actual legit rumors about Patches.

Hoping Kovalchuk signs somewhere today. (Verbally)

Course, still might be waiting on Tavares.

Sources please.

The other thing about Patches flying to LA. Aren’t all the Kings brass in Dallas? Just saying.

Is it possible talks have happened, yes.

I don’t think Patches is their first option tho obviously.
