There are question marks about wings / center slots. 3 of Carter, Kempe and Vilardi can play wing or center. I actually think Kempe is better at center, than wing, Carter is equally adept at w or c.
I think it would be possible to have Kempe centering Pearson and Carter and letting Carter take the faceoffs. Kempe scored all 16 of his goals on line 2 and can produce there. He's only going to get
better. I would trade Toffoli.
A new report from someone says that they believe Kovalchuk ends up in LA. That's fine by me. He can easily score 30 goals with Kopitar. Even though he's 35, they say he's in the best shape
of his life. Now you take away Iafallo's 9 goals and turn them into 30 goals Kovalchuk can score, LA could have been #1 in the Pacific. The 11 points behind Vegas, could have been eclipsed,
with 20 more goals for.
Sure, everyone would love Tavares and even more, but that's up to Tavares and not Rob Blake. If the Kings can sign Kovalchuk, they're in pretty good shape. If they cannot,
hopefully they can get Pacioretty or Skinner or someone of that level.
Truth be known, the 2012 and 2014 cups were won, LARGELY from the trade deadline deals - Carter in 2012 and Gaborik in 2014. Carter was stellar and gave the Kings a formidable top
6 and dominated...and Gaborik LED the NHL in playoff goals. Those 2 cups had a lot to do with those 2 key deadline deals.
I see no need to panic, if the Kings make 1 move in increasing offense and at the deadline, get what they need.
Several good things in a deadline deal: 1. you will know what you need. 2. you will know the TRUE value of: Vilardi and Bickley...and to a lesser degree, JAD and Clague, who will
have had a half season in the AHL. ANY of those 4 excelling, they have greater trade value then, than now. You have less of a gamble at the trade deadline. Not saying to shy
away of making moves now, though.
