I don't think anything you're saying here is wrong, but it's less about "Vilardi for Patches" value (because it's likely fair in a vacuum) and more about I don't want to give up this organization's only true blue-chip forward prospect for one year of a vanishing act. Think of how pissy people are about friggin Colin Miller and Martin Jones and multiply that. Like BigKing pointed out you need SOME youth contributing on an ELC no matter what stage of organizational development you're in.

He stuck out to me. Reminded me a whole damn lot of Jason Allison. Though if you're specifically referencing the OHL Conf. Finals, Hamilton ran over everyone on their way to the championship, so that's probably not the best representation of him just like the VGK series wasn't of Kopitar-Doughty. I think he'll play even better with better IQ players. Not saying he's a sure thing by any means, I'm not one that's been penning him into the top-six or anything. But he's the highest-rated forward prospect we've had in a decade.

So true! I found my post from June 23, 2017, when I noted Vilardi reminded me of Jason Allsion. Spot on!

2017 NHL Draft profile: Gabriel Vilardi is the best of the rest

reminds me of Jason Allison, when Allison was at his best. The fact that his hockey sense is good, plays 200 feet, and Rychel says he's the strongest in Junior Hockey from the faceoff circles in, I think he may only need 1 more year in Jr.

ISS Hockey - Feb. 6th: "Always been blessed w/size but his skill level & maturity has grown in leaps & bounds."

Bob McKenzie said he was the best player for Canada at the WJC camp and he got his knee injured by Rasmussen.

if he continues that path, there's no reason he won't be ready by 18-19 season...IF he's ready. Could always give him the first 10 games or whatever that mark is and see. It really seems his only weakness is skating and he's working on it with some trainer all Summer. It will improve.

Allison was as slow as a molasses, I hope the NKOTB is a little more fleet of foot.

Top 15 Worst Skaters in NHL History

"Jason Allison may very well go down as the slowest player in NHL history. That’s a debatable point, but he’s certainly one of the slowest ever to hit the ice in the world’s best hockey league. Allison often looked like he was skating in quicksand, but was also quite a productive player even though his skating style made it look like he wasn’t trying. In addition, he did have injuries to deal with during his career from 1994 to 2006."

The best ones are 1st round picks. Point made.

Really?

You think the best ones in 2007 and 2010 were 1st rounders? Anyways, no one was arguing that 1st round picks are valuable, you should probably go reread what K17 about the top 15 picks in order to remember what I was arguing...

That’s fair. Maybe I feel like several scouting departments passed on him for a reason, and he’s likely closer to Cowan than Kopitar.
There's definitely reasons.

1) He was injured.
2) Concerns about skating at a time when skating is all the rage.
3) There's a lot of other really good prospects available. This draft turned out to be deeper than previously thought.

Your entire list. I'm not picking by year.

Out of that lineup, the best players are the first round picks.

There's a rumor of trade talks with Montreal for Patches on the main board.

So according to martin McGuire, max Pacioretty could move to the Kings. I hope the arrival of the young Vilardi and Clague!
Someone please tell the Habs to move their Ford Delusion from the reserved parking spot.

No doubt he is a good player, he was drafted high for a reason, but some of the expectations I've seen for him are downright saviour like.
I'm not seeing that. A lot of people are penciling him into the lineup next season because the NHL is most likely where he's going to be. I've seen plenty of posts downplaying him if anything.

No it's not.

Looks like Kings made it to the Kovy semifinals...

Expectation is that J.P. Barry, agent for Ilya Kovalchuk, will meet with the top four contenders for the UFA's services today _ Boston, L.A., SJ and Vegas _ to advance proceedings along.

Should be an interesting few days for Blake. I really hope the loyalty to the Cup teams finally comes to and end and more dynamic NHL players are acquired.

If you're Kovalchuk and you want to win a Cup (that what he says he wants), than why would you sign in LA/SJ over Vegas or Boston?

I think he's trying to upgrade with a better path. Getting Skinner, for example, would be a young dynamic player they could have for years. But if that (or another trade for similar doesn't pan out) he's keeping his toes in he Kovy pool.
As long as he doesn't overpay in the 6.5 x 3 area...
I've read that Boston (because they need more players in their 30's on LTC) is pushing hard for him. Let them overpay...

San Jose's coach is the same one that coached him in NJ.

Boston is overrated. Vegas probably barely squeezes in next year.

Because all 4 teams made the playoffs, and could offer different opportunities. Vegas guys may not all have career years next year. Seems he prefers the west given the finalists

I think he goes to SJ 3 year deal 6 million per though they would not pay an aging Marleu so maybe they will not

If Kovalchuk backs himself to still be an NHL player I could see him thinking he could turn LA into contenders. If he doesn’t back himself to do that I wouldn’t want him anyway. To be any help to us you’d expect Kovalchuk to love the thought of playing alongside a 90 pt, Selke winner. If not he’s no good to us.

I’m not saying the other teams in on him aren’t valid options but we surely must be.

I'd prefer O'reilly if Villardi were moved but I doubt that's the case. Carter could move to wing or you would have unreal center depth.
O'Reilly, Hayes and Lindholm are the only names that have been mentioned on the trade market that make sense for us.
