JS still in love with Andreoff. The NHL forward who has now played 50 consecutive NHL games as a forward without scoring a goal, and what is his reward? Promoted to the 3rd line.

The more I think about it, the more I'm thrilled that Kempe has been able to step in at 2C, because Carter having to stay off his legs for ~4 months--regardless of the cardio work he's doing--is gonna be rough for a guy whose skating is a huge boon. I love Carter and he's a warrior imo, I'm just not sure what his impact will be after having to stay off skates for so long, but if either guy can split those minutes (Kempe/Carter) it's gonna help them both and it's just one more bullet in the chamber...we have a deep squad when healthy and I love it. Never underestimate Clifford's impact, either; even if you hate him, because at worst, it means Andreoff eats popcorn

So, to beat a dead horse, Barzal looks pretty good. Him and Konecny were the two guys I wanted when Lucic was traded.
Partially Agreed. Barzal was the one I wanted because we were picking around 13th.

I am still flabbergasted by that trade.

You trade for a guy who is an UFA and cant be re signed because of the cap, unbelievable. We traded both Jones (#1 goalie), Miller (highly touted back then) and a 1st round pick for an UFA.

Lombardi really made some horrible moves/signings at the end.

That said, I am still not very sold on Barzal. He just cant score. I have seen worse (like drafting Teubert instead of Karlsson).

I'm also not sold on Barzal. I remember when we were playing against him he went down anytime someone breathed hard in his direction. Not at all questioning his skill, and I'm sure he's lethal with space and on the PP, but he would get ground into smithereens in the Pacific.

Still amazed that it looks like Boston pulled a 2003 Kings with those three high picks.

i love gaborik. but after so many injury-related disappointments i just wish him to survive after he comes back. he is a great guy with legs of glass. he belongs to this team but the team already learned how to do it without him. if he does survive i'm pretty sure he will be stellar, and above all it would be perfect to have him fit and ready for the playoffs.

The ice time handed to Cammy, Laich and Andreoff is peculiar to say the least. When Gaborik and Carter return 2 of these 3 players need to be released so JS can no longer use them. He suffers from the same syndrome Sutter did where certain players can not produce and are rewarded yet others who do produce have their ice times cut down game to game.

At least they looked prepared with the picks.Taylor and co calling timeout and then looking clueless as to what to do with the next 2 picks is burned into my memory forever.

If Miller was highly touted back then, then Jones was a backup that they weren't going to be able to re-sign back then. Considering that any team that wanted him could wait Lombardi out, because Jones had zero reason to sign a contract with the Kings, with Quick already signed and not going anywhere, he had little value. Boston ended up with a 1st round pick, which turned into a late 1st round pick, because of course SJ was good, and Jones helped them be good, which nobody was surprised by. They also got a former 5th round pick from 4 years prior. So far, Boston has gotten 2G and 5pts in 24 games for Jones.

They got Lucic for half his cap hit, it seemed to reinvigorate Kopitar for a year, unfortunately Gaborik wasn't great and got hurt, but the team was in 1st place by double digits half way through the season. Everything slowly fell apart after that, and it's easy to say they should've replaced Voynov instead, but how many top 4 right handed defensemen that could add offense were changing teams at the time? They had just wasted a year after the Cup, and they were still trying to win. Who knows who they would've picked had they kept the pick. Who knows if they make the same trade had they made the playoffs in 2015. By not doing so, Carolina got the 2016 pick instead. If they did, the Canes get the 2015 pick, and maybe Lombardi doesn't trade the 1st in 2016 a year ahead of time, especially had they made the playoffs. That 14-15 season altered the franchise in more ways than one.

Imo the kings are in fine shape considering they have 2 top 6 players out of the lineup.

Kings might have the fastest 3rd line in the league in kempe gaborik (he is still fast) and Lewis if they go that route...

I want to see a line of Gaborik-Carter-Kempe, there would be no stopping it.

It doesnt matter what Boston has done with Jones or that Miller is a defensive liability for Vegas.

That mistake is often made by fans. As GM you should get full value for your highly touted players when you trade them. Miller was playing amazingly at the time and Jones had the numbers. On top of that another 1st round pick, not even a late one, but middle of the pack (13th overall). You say a late pick, but that's wrong.

If player A or player B doesnt want to resign, than you are just to late. Thats asset management. If another team waste the traded 1st round pick on a bust......not important either. Who knows who we would have drafted.

Horrible trade.

Surprising. He's been pretty bad in Ontario has he not? More of a thanks for being a good soldier during his time here. Sucks because I'd have liked to see LoVerde get a few games in L.A. while he was with the org.

Well, Crescenzi is a fourth line center, so not sure what expectations there will be other than being a physical center who can win draws and make solid contributions in his own zone.

Not expecting him to produce numbers in that role.

We have been pronouncing his name wrong...Good article on him.
Pronounced “Ah-drian” in Sweden, Kempe has induced a lot of “aahs” with his aggressiveness, speed and hands. His first six goals were on 17 shots for an impressive 35% mark that has since “dipped” to 30.4%.
“I think there was a question whether he could finish or not,” Kings coach John Stevens said. “I think he’s proven that he can.”
The time has arrived for Kings forward Adrian Kempe

No he's not been bad. Ontario in general has been pretty poor. Happy about this move. Maybe this means less Andreoff.

Horrible trade.

I said Boston got what ended up being a late 1st from SJ.

I just don't think Jones had much value to the Kings at the time, so I don't include his full value in assessing the deal. He was a RFA, with Quick as the no doubt #1. Lombardi could not sign him, and he had zero reason to sign a contract with the Kings. Could they have traded him for a 1st? Maybe, but Boston got SJ's 1st in 2016, which is why the pick was a late 1st. SJ figured they would be better in 15-16, so they could give up that pick. It didn't hurt that they and the Bruins were in different conferences either.

A prospect(who would've had a chance to replace Voynov, but still a prospect), an unsigned backup who wasn't going to re-sign, and a mid 1st round pick, for a top 3/6 winger. For a team that was still only a year removed from the Cup. Not a horrible trade. I'd call it a risky trade. A risky trade that played a part in Lombardi eventually losing his job.

Can I ask someone to fill in for me tonight for the GDT just for tonight? I've just got so much work on my plate and I can't find the time to get it done before the game tonight.

I would but I'm on my phone only and stuck at work till late.

Interesting that calling Crescenzi up. I wonder if someone sneezed in the general vicinity of Gaborik and he had another "setback".

I think the trade has a lot to do with faceoffs than production. We are losing too many important faceoffs when Kopi isnt taking them.
