Might get a low payroll team like ARZ to take Belesky - especially if you package him with Spooner and / or C Miller. There will be lots of trades before the expansion draft.

I have interest in Colin Miller. Maybe Spooner (although he's terrible in the dot and that probably won't get any better in the Pacific against bigger centers). But no interest at all in Beleskey, especially when we're trying to make sure Vegas takes McGinn, who is more or less Beleskey.

Obviously gone:
- Liles
- Stafford
- Spooner

Hopefully Gone/Cap Buyouts:
- Moore (liked what he brought but time to get younger/faster)
- Hayes
- Beleskey

Lose a spot to a rookie:
- Vatrano
- Schaller

I think Vegas is taking:
- Beleskey (may have to sweeten the deal a bit, but Vegas has to get to the cap floor.... taking on some bad contracts is going to be a necessity, and Matts isnt THAT bad.)

Surprised to see return:
- Beleskey
- Krejci (yes, I'll say it.... I really think it's time to try to move him.... but I know it won't be easy so I'll be surprised to see him back)

****, another year of...
- ?? I'm hoping I'm not saying "****, another year of" to anyone. Donny needs to take out the trash. This next year is pivotal. Core gets one year older. Most important player (Bergeron) will be 32. We need to make moves now. Big offseason for Donald yet again.

This team needs to get their own version of Josh Anderson in CBJ (a big body who can score, hit and fight).

We all agree that Spooner is gone --does Heinen take his spot? JFK?

Funny, Colt... I was thinking about this too and he ( Anderson ) would be a guy that I would target in a trade this offseason.

This team needs a couple young skilled forwards to augment marchand and pastrnak. And it doesn't appear to me we have that.

Went indepth on this and built on a previous post I made and made it much more accurate on what could happen/what I think should happen. We need to make Cap space for 1 FA signing for the forward position.

Cap savings
Liles not back $2Mil
Chara will make less - Savings of $2.91Mil
Rinaldo not back - $850k
Lose McQuaid to Vegas draft - 2.75Mil (Protect K Miller)
Trade Spooner for draft picks (Savings of $950k)

Savings = $9 Mil give or take

Sieds buyout will cost a Mil more - $1Mil
Marchand's cap goes up - $1.65Mil
Pastrnak resign $5.5Mil?? ($4.6Mil extra on cap)
Resign Acciari, Moore, Morrow, Nash, Schaller, Czarnik (All minimal changes but would esitmate an additional $1.3Mil in cap)

Cost = $8.5Mil approx

Trade draft picks acquired from Spooner to dump Hayes ($2.3Mil) and/or Beleskey ($3.8Mil) contracts
Use cash saved from Hayes and/or Beleskey to sign a FA (Iggy, Jagr RW, Oshie RW, Williams RW, Marleau LW etc)

Stafford will not be coming back - $4.35Mil (Actual savings off cap much smaller due to trade deadline aquistion)

2017/2018 Starting line up
Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
FA (Jagr/Iggy/etc) - Krejci - Senyshyn
Vatrano - Backes - Cehlarik
Acciari - Moore - Nash

Depth:
JFK
Schaller
Kuraly
Czarnik

Chara - Carlo
K.Miller - MacAvoy
Krug - C Miller

Depth:
O Gara
Morrow
Zboril

Rask
Khodobin

*No more buy outs, hate buy outs and are rarely worth it
*Keep Dobby, we know what hes capable of, he'll be fine.. plz dont spend Cap on this position when our foward group needs it the most.
*Getting rid of Spooner is going to hurt, but we cant afford his cap, plus Hayes & Beleskey. Trading him will give us the assets to get rid of Hayes and/or Belesk
*Another option could be trade current picks to dump Hayes/Belesk and sign Spoon, but I have a feeling they would prefer trade and sign FA forward
*Improved defense/puck moving will help boost forwards points in 2017/2018

good write down

except i don't I agree with your lineup

Cehlarik is a LW and should get another shot with Krejci

Vatrano is not ahead of Kulary

I doubt Moore will be brought back.... Nash is ok as a 4th line guy

No Jagr, Iggy... The team needs to "speedy" up... "youth up"

Players like Debrusk, Senyshen, JFK, Gabrielle , Heinen, Bjork should get opportunities to make the team

There will be growing pains, but if these young players are as good as we think they are /Sweeney thinks....... Bruins will be good sooner than later

The same people get a hard on for the likes of Acciari and Kuraly every year. Not saying the don't deserve some recognition for their play...but they are mature players. This is most likely what they are. If you're a good team, that's a good 12/13th forward spot battle. Not that different from Morrow and Miller. Neither of whom I consider anything more than spare parts.

Obviously gone:

Liles

Hopefully gone:

Its a transition year

Cant sign big name FAs

TJ Oshie is there for the taking, I think its a perfect time to sign someone like him. Instantly balances out our lines. But, dont know what the money will look like once Pasta is given his raise although we will be saving $2M on Chara's contract and I doubt Spooner sticks around so thats already an extra $3M+

We'll see, I think Oshie on this team would be great, hes 'the guy' i go hard at if im Sweeney, **** Landeskog, we can sign Oshie and not lose anything but money, we will see. Lots of kids coming through, still gotta wait on Senyshyn to get reps in Pro next year, DeBrusk might be ready.

Good read - nicely lays out the important decisions coming in the off-season.

I agree with your placement of Backes. One of the keys to '17-'18: re-establish three solid lines that can hold their own defensively and threaten offensively. Much better use of 42's talents than moving him up and down the lineup all year (especially on a new team).

We will probably look something like...partially wishful thinking here;

MARCHAND-BERGERON-SENYSHYN
LANDESKOG-KRECJI-PASTRNAK (if BJORK doesn't want to sign I see him as part of the return maybe with C. MILLER and a draft pick)
KURALY-JFK-BACKES

CHARA-MCAVOY

Well thought out but a couple things I disagree with. Iggy is done and has never played LW in his career, Jagr was a total failure here once, why bring him back? Oshie is going to get 6.5-7.5 for 4-6 years, would you spend that type of cap space on him?

Everybody needs to stop thinking Senyshyn is going to be a top six forward next year, expect a full year in Providence for him, much like DeBrusk. JFK listed as depth I assume you mean playing in Providence not sitting in Boston, that would be a waste of a developmental year for him.

I still bring McQuaid back, only reason I would even consider exposing him on the expansion draft is his injury history. Speed and puck moving D are nice but you need some grit and toughness back there, the Millers provide a bit of that but I would take McQuaid over either of them.

Getting rid of Spooner is not going to hurt, he had his chance to show his value in the playoffs and instead of stepping up when needed wound up getting scratched. Absolutely no loss to this team saying goodbye to him, maximize his return for as much as possible (which at this point will be very little) or just don't agree to the contract awarded in arbitration.

Forward group needs some size and grit.

Not sure I give up on Spooner just yet. Talented player who still is developing. He will be cheap to resign and hopefully he increases his value if you do need to trade him next year at the deadline. He provides speed and offense which this team severely lacks. No sense in selling him when his value is low.
As well, we don't know the significance of injury. We are all thinking he was a 100% and scratched. Cassidy said that he wasn't.
As well, everyone wanted Beleskey in for Spooner. Well, Beleskey was invisible once again in a game that needed him.

I'd be surprised to see all the low end vets leave. Dunno if all of Nash/Moore/Stafford is realistic to see leave. Someone will be back cheap since they already know the system. I'm thinking maybe Nash.

Nash has another year to run on his contract, and it's a fairly cheap one, so pretty sure we'll see him next season.
