Figured we start talking about this especially with the stupid u23 team that will take talent away from us...

Seth Jones
Alex Galchenyuk
Jacob Trouba
John Gaudreau
Brandon Saad
Jack Eichel
John Gibson

All legit names that will not be at our disposal for this tournament...a few of these names would have made our squad no doubt.

Galchenyuk is not really american IMO

Why is it hypocritical to give the players credit? If they do succeed in this tournament, it will be because they overcame Tort hockey, not because of Tort hockey. Given Tort's hockey style, you actually believe that falling back into a passive box to block shots all game is going to work against teams comprised of the most talented players in the world? We're basically going to play kitty at the doorstep against the most talented players in the world. Not likely to go well for us.

"We wanna play as quickly and as straight ahead of possible... I think we have the skill to make plays, getting out of our endzone.. We wanna go North-South as quick as possible..." - John Tortorella on his World Cup Day One playbook of grind and takebacks.

Maybe he's just a good coach that uses what he has on his bench to the best of their abilities. I doubt if he coaches a National All Star team the same way he coaches an NHL team.

If he's not really American, what is he exactly?

Born in Milwaukee Wisconsin and lived there until he was 4. He also lived in Chicago when he was a teenager. He played for the US in the World Juniors and World Championships.

Who exactly are the "brutal" selections and omissions that were eligble (i.e .no contract or health issues) on this roster? Kessel?

Brutal selections

Justin Abdelkader
Jack Johnson
Erik Johnson
David Backes
Brandon Dubinsky

Brutal ommisions

Phil Kessel
Keith Yandle
Justin Faulk
Kyle Okposo
Tyler Johnson

I didnt know he was born here, that does make him American. I should have quickly googled that. But i remember hearing him speak, he had a heavy accent. I might be wrong.

What about Hudler, he is listed as american as well?

i think its been said a few times, we cant skate with the euro teams, so we are trying the 2012 LA Kings Big and Mean approach (that only the Bruins are doing currently in the NHL)

Kessel should be there regardless. One Johnson should be out for Faulk at minimum, and abdel or dubby for tyler

i think its been said a few times, we cant skate with the euro teams,

Having seen the Euro teams in the past and present, the US will skate just fine up against them. The US not being able to skate with europe gets mentioned every year before the Worlds and every 4 years before the Olympics.

Having grinders on NA ice is a good thing. Nothing to do with an LA King or Bruins approach.

Is the U.S. going to play a run and gun game ala Russia? No, but IMO that style of play is not going to be successful in this tournament. It's why the U.S. brass built the team the way they did. Personally, I think they overthought things, but at the very least it's going to be a very tough team to play against with great goaltending and special teams. There is also enough skill up front to get the job done.

If there is a talent disparity you don't actively make it worse. You do the best with what you have. You don't say "Ah fuggit. They're too good. New gameplan. Let's be GRITTY so when we lose we get to say we tried *real* hard!"

EDIT: this isn't meant to specifically go at you, just that the part i bolded there seems to be the subtext of a lot of people that actually defend this putrid team

The argument is there just is a bit too many grinders over faster offense. But hey this is not our job its Torts and the coaches and their decision they have to live with.

As a devils fan, i sure know that throwing a different style of hockey can win you cups by not running with guns but playing defense and the trap.

hope you are right, lets go USA

He is?

Hudler is Czech, born in Czechoslovakia. He's played for Slovakia in the World Juniors but as far as I know plays for the Czech Republic otherwise.

Even if he wasn't born here, if he qualifies for a passport, he is American.
