The Tyler Johnson and Justin Faulk snubs are awful to me. Still cheering for this team and North American secondly.
Also, I think it's sort of hypocritical of John Tortorella to expect his players to be respectful when he's easily the most disrespectful coach in the NHL today.
Yeah, still incredible that Shattenkirk, Faulk, TJ weren't picked and Okposo to a lesser extent. Still gonna root for them but some of the snubs were crazy.
0 relevance to the flag and those that sacrifice for their country (like his son for example).

Alright, that's one way to put it but isn't his son in the end just doing his job and getting paid for doing so?
In my opinion, players / people in general should have the right to protest in this manner. Of course, the coach has the right to play or not play whoever he likes but I don't really agree with using this as justification for doing so.

Weird because alot of American military guys are okay with kaper sitting. Protecting the first amendment and what not.
Well yeah. It's to bring awareness to an issue with the country and it accomplishes that without hurting or oppressing anyone or causing anyone any harm. In my opinion, such protests should be encouraged, not suppressed. To me, it's more patriotic to truly care for your country than to close your eyes at injustice happening within it.
I guess this isn't really the right topic for this but his statement just ticks me the wrong way and seems very "holier than thou". To me, it shows that a person truly cares if he goes to the lengths to protest in this manner.
It's called leading by example. If you don't behave in a respectful way, why should anyone listen to you if you tell them to be respectful? Also, if you weren't going to accept my answer, you shouldn't have asked such an insincere question.
It is very holier than thou, especially when you think about all the times Tortorella has thrown a water bottle at a fan, called players on the other team a bunch of whiners (that was rich coming from Torts), disrespected a reporter, or feuded with his own players, got suspended/fined etc etc
I'll admit what his son is doing is very brave & selfless, and I'll give Torts credit for being a good father that raised his son right, but as a coach, he has no credibility to preach respectful behavior.
Torts has got to be trolling us with the Kane selection. Sends a really bad message imo. Just got a lot less excited. Go team NA!

None of us are in the locker room maybe he showed he deserved it. People can grow up and he did just win the Hart
I don't have to accept your answer, and I was expecting a more substantive answer, but it seems you chimed in this topic to take a dig at Torts for perceived passed offenses based on his poor sportsmanship.
You clearly have a bias against this coach.
