I'm not sold on Panarin-Shipachev-Dadonov line. I think they're gonna be defensive disaster. Btw, Panarin-Anisimov-Kane line scored 41 goals last season but allowed 36(!). It's a LOT.

Where did you get the stat that Panarin-Anisimov-Kane scored only 41 goals last season? Panarin (30) + Anisimov (20) + Kane (46) = 96 goals total. Subtracting 30 PP goals (8+5+17) still leaves 66 goals which most of those would be when they played together on their line.

Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Kucherov
Malkin-Datsyuk-Tarasenko
Panarin-Shipachev-Dadonov

Namestnikov-Anisimov-Kulemin
Telegin

I still believe that the Panarin-Ship-Dadonov line will be dismantled early on, hopefully after the first couple of exhibition games, or the one against Canada. At that moment everyone will realize that Dadonov and Telegin have nothing to do on that team. Kovalchuk needs to be on this team and play with Datsyuk!

Yea, maybe. Not sure if you've seen my old thread about Ovechkins stats in the national team covering to include Sochi, if not - have a look here(I tried to update it after this last World Championship but the admins kept removing my post because the topic obviously is too old or something).
Anyway, a quick summary to that: He has been garbage, taking up too much time from the others stars on the ice and when he scores points - its mostly against rubbish teams.

However, that doesn´t mean he won´t succeed in the upcoming WC, in fact I think he just might... with both Kovalchuk and Radulov out of the way with the help of his old friend Znarok as the headcoach, Russia is building up a Washington Capitals for him where he can more or less be the only star on the team - but seeing Ovechkin doing great doesn´t mean the team will, just like Washington.
I personally think Ovekin has done his time in the national team, I've never really enjoyed his style since after 2007 sometime whkin has done his time in the national team, I've never really enjoyed his style since after 2007 sometime when he changed his russian playstyle for the shooting-freak he became in NHL (which has obviously been great for himself). In 2008 he was really enjoyable with caps teammates of Semin and Fedorov, but other than that, naah.
So well, I believe that he would be a great player to have in a 3rd line and in power plays (but not relying on him in PP's and focusing them entirely on seting him up), but I don´t believe his ego would allow him to accept such a role and that is why I think he is done.
Ovechkin won´t change, he has showed that over the years and with Znarok as his servant he will gain even more space.

I'm not really a fan of using a player for these tournaments that have never played for the national team before, Telegin made a very good impression to be fair in the team just recently so for this particular tournament I would pick the latter. Also Telegins season has already started and he is more "ready", that's a plus we have with players from KHL.

He can´t replace anyone without that player being injured, but maybe now since he is coach of SKA and Kovy is playing godlike under his command, together with Datsyuk (which would be a line that could replace/be formed) he would actually consider it if someone was to start stumbling ;)en he changed his russian playstyle for the shooting-freak he became in NHL (which has obviously been great for himself). Good analysis. I just checked out that post you linked. I don't know why at times Ovechkin looks different internationally than he does in the NHL, perhaps his style does not mesh as well with the Russian NT as you pointed out. I don't know why, I just have a feeling he's going to have a big tournament for Russia.

His game works better on the smaller ice because teams can't clog the middle as well and force poor shooting lanes, the game is way too fast. The collapse the middle in the defensive zone style does not work to the same degree as it does on the bigger ice. Ovi can find better shooting lanes on the smaller ice.

If Kovi and Radu IN

Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Radulov

Kovalchuk led players off the ice before the Canadian national anthem was played at the 2015 WHC. That was disrespectful.

I'm sorry to say it, but Kovalchuk was the leader who made Russian players leave. Ovechkin stayed, he wanted to show respect. Kovalchuk brought shame, Russia acknowledged it and he has never played since.

I respect Russia for turning their back on Kovalchuk. Your country showed Canada lots of respect at the 2016 WHC. St. Petersburg hosted an excellent event. Our countries showed respect for each other as the Hockey Superpowers. Never forget, our coach wore the flag of St. Andrew on Victory Day. We stood with you as allies against tyranny. Russia will never again leave the ice during O Canada.

Here. Of course I meant only 5-on-5 situations and only when all three of them were on the ice. Anyway my point was they allowed a LOT of goals.
Now that's what I call top-lines :)

This whole thing was blown waaay out of proportion. It was a mistake, not some meaningful gesture. No one cares about it in Russia now.

From all of my friends I heard Russia was an excellent host.

You treated our Canadian boys very well.

I'm sure we were, Russia is know for its hospitality (at least there was a saying like that). But what does it have anything to do with Kovalchuk's mistake in 2015? It wasn't a sign of disrespect, it was just a stupid misunderstanding. The door (or gate off the rink or whatever it's called in English) was opened for some reason which made some Russian players to think that they may leave. It was stupid but not intentional. And if I'm not mistaken now by IIHF rules it's already allowed for beaten team to leave before winner's anthem. They already lose, no need to extend their suffering by listening winner's hymn and watching them cheering.

It's over and done with. This issue was dealt with, Canadians have moved on too. No point discussing it again. No, the loser should always stand for the other teams anthem, I have not heard the IIHF changing that rule. Canada will always stand for your anthem if you win. It is respect.

Apparently St. Petersburg is absolutely beautiful. I heard the history of that city, fascinating. Your country hosted the hockey world well as expected. Russia delivered. TSN continually talked about how beautiful the city was and how much they admired the Russian people when speaking with them.

Hopefully some of you can come to Canada and celebrate hockey together at the World Cup. I want to play Russia for the Cup, hopefully you win your group. Canada wins theirs and we meet in the finals for the Cup.

Thanks. I hope at least couple of hundreds will come to Canada from Russia to support our NT. And of course there will be some local Russians.
To play in the finals with Canada sounds to good to be true but may your words come true!

Come ready to celebrate and freely express joy in hockey. Canadian people will be warm and welcoming. If you want to meet friends and talk hockey, Canadians will love to talk hockey with Russians. Cheer for your team, let yourself be absorbed in hockey.

In Canada we will treat you as our guests and make sure you have fun. Enjoy the atmosphere, have some Vodka and meet new friends :). Be kind and respectful to Canadians in our land, and we will party with Russians the entire tournament and new friendships will be made.

Hockey keeps Canada and Russia from doing anything stupid to each other. We are the most northern and vast nations on Earth. We have more in common than we do differences.

Yeah I don't know about that, I think you're getting carried away now.

Aha, if Telegin has a Cold and Namestnikov a sore toe both Radulov and Kovalchuk might joinski?

I dont know why there is hate for Telegin, he is playing high energy hockey, is dynamic and grinds! Would keep him, he can be usefull for already crappy PK...
Dadonov and Namestnikov out and Radulov and Kovalchuk in and i think by names this is the best team Russia can give...

I will be back here when Dadonov will be totaly shut down, he cannot handle physical play...
It still doesnt matter thou, as i think coaching and special teams still suck...
