International tournament = participants are nothing but national teams in a competitive environment.

Of course, it's not to be said that other kind of teams can't be involved, and yes, sometimes it could be interesting to see how any kind of "fantasy" roster could do against a more legitimate squad. However, they obviously have no value in a competitive environment. They have no legacy, no future. You can't crown them champions and say they were the best national team in that given day. In fact, you shouldn't be able to let facing such a team decide any position in a tournament that's supposed to possess international value of any kind. Why the NHL pretends it can do this is mind-boggling.

But like I said, it doesn't mean one can't take a national team and pit them against a collection squad. There's just a different name for this. It's exhibition.

And, while people may tune in for the curiosity of it all, nobody gives a damn what the result is in exhibition.

Nope, too early for the kids.

Well is is September so they are already drafted and had whole Summer time to train and play nhl camps. I think even Draisaitl played World Championship at Minsk when he was 18. Still he did only 6 points at U20 championships. Pulju+Laine are already more ready than he was.

But yeah ofc we should give them Couple EHT games and they have to earn their spot first for World Championship and after that for World Cup. Still they have almost same potential that McDavid will have and he is totally playing with Canada/Usa Junior team. So why not?

Draisatl plays for Germany. And is a single one of the kids even ready for the world champs? Maybe Aho in a diminished role if there are no NHL forwards and there are a couple of big injuries..

No time for it.

My idea for a line-up filled with skilled C,s would be this.

1st. Granlund-Koivu-Pulkkinen

Experience in Koivu, him and Granlund know eachother from Minnesota, good passers plus a sniper in Pulkkinen

2nd. Filppula-Barkov-Jokinen

Solid line, combines goal-scoring and defensive responsibilities.

3rd.

Teräväinen-Lehterä-Donskoi

Donskoi has some to prove but if he keeps getting playtime in SJ he would be a good compliment to the more playmaking style of the others.

4th.

Salomäki-Haula-Komarov

Energyline, when the team needs to wake up, also usful to matchup vs toplines of other teams to get them out of balance.

Extra-attacker. Kemppainen.

Also to consider: PuLaAho, but still early.

D,s

Määttä-Ristolainen

Lots of playing time for them.

Jokipakka-Vatanen

Jokipakka will have to focus solely on defence to give Sami chances to join the attacks.

Lindbohm-Lindell

Limited time on ice, plays to keep every shift 0-0, Lindell in only if he gets playing time in NHL, which he quite frankly should.

Extraman. Pokka.

No KHL.ers here, because its on small rink, even if Hietanen is good and could be considered, along with a longshot in Juolevi from OHL.

Goalies

This is very open, depending on rescent form, my choice would be:

Rask
Rinne
Niemi

With the first two as potential number ones.

Also to consider, Lehtonen, Rämö, Raanta

Not the strongest team in the tournament on paper, but still a heavy contender because of teamwork and goalies.

Väänänen needs to be mentioned in this topic for sake of good old times. On perhaps Kukkonen, too.

Väänänen. Kukkonen.

Done.

If there is a good place to have Ossi & Lasse in if for nostalgy only, it's this...

Just keep 'em away from any tournament somebody might take seriously.

What? And leave out legends like Juha-Matti Aaltonen and Atte Ohtamaa? Step up your game brotha.

Might aswell make my own roster prediction:

J. Jokinen-Barkov-Mi. Granlund
Ma. Granlund(Puljujärvi?)-Filppula-Pulkkinen(Laine?)
Teräväinen-Koivu-Donskoi
Haula-Kemppainen-Komarov

Määttä-Ristolainen
Vatanen-Jokipakka
Juolevi-Lindbohm

Goalies: Pick one.

Juolevi? Damn people are high and clouding their judgment on these kids right now. Yes, he was impressive during the WJC, but no way will he be there.

How 'bout Lindell?

I have a funny feeling that Kukkonen will be in the team, you know because of Marjamaki.

Same... plus ive personally never been that high on Lindbohm. It was surprise he took NHL spot last year and can definetly see Lauri taking atleast one veteran defensman and that can only be Kukkonen.

I'm expecting to see a similar first line that we saw in Sochi.

Mi. Granlund - Barkov - Pulkkinen
Teräväinen - Koivu - Jokinen
Filppula - Lehterä - Donskoi
Haula - Kemppainen - Komarov

Määttä - Ristolainen
Vatanen - Jokipakka
Lindell - Lindbohm

Rask
Rinne

That's what I'm guessing too. Kukkonen will be on the team and Marjamäki will slap the 2nd 'A' on his jersey.

Another thing to consider is that it's still a bit of a question mark what the KHL is going to do in regards of releasing players. After all, it *is* a bit unlikely that Marjamäki & co will want to go with D corps where Vatanen is the oldest guy around - meaningless exhibition or not - and if the Russkies are going to be stingy with Hietanen and Lepistö, that at the latest will indeed make Kukkonen a very serious candidate.
