Pretty close to what I expect, other than Marchand being there (Getzlaf will be on the team) and a tossup of sorts between Duchene and O'Reilly. On defence I would be very surprised to see Seabrook... I assume the last spot belongs to Pietrangelo, with Burns having an outside shot and Letang being redundant. Third goaltender is hard to say, presumably Quenneville will vouch for Crawford, but there are many options (Luongo and Fleury chief among them).

I'd drop Perry in favor of Tyler Toffoli. more deserving at this point imo...a better more versatile player.

But I've never been a card carrying member of the Anaheim Bobbsey Twins fan club.

a few other of LeBrun's selections I question, but nothing too egregious considering it's the gimmicky cup we're debating.

A better more versatile player? You're kidding right?

As a person who watches every Flames game TJ Brodie absolutely deserves to be on this team. Giordano im not so sure. Doubt either make the initial 16 though.

So who do we think the first 16 will be?

I'd say:

Crosby
Toews
Bergeron
Seguin
Benn
Giroux
Tavares
Stamkos
Keith
Doughty
Weber
Subban
Price
Holtby

will be on the list. Not sure who the final two spots would be. I would think two of Getzlaf, Perry, Hall and Vlasic, and I'd bet on Vlasic and Perry. With so many centers, they might wait on Getzlaf, who isn't an easy move to wing, and I'm not sure how highly Hall is viewed by Team Canada, despite his numbers.

Price, Holtby - Keith, Doughty, Weber, Vlasic, Subban - Crosby, Benn, Tavares, Seguin, Toews, Bergeron, Perry, Stamkos, O'Reilly

Taylor Hall - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos
Jamie Benn - Tyler Seguin - Claude Giroux
John Tavares - Jonathan Toews - Corey Perry
Ryan O'Reilly - Patrice Bergeron - Brad Marchand
Matt Duchene
Jeff Carter

Duncan Keith - Drew Doughty
TJ Brodie - Shea Weber
Marc-Edouard Vlasic - PK Subban
Brent Burns

Carey Price
Braden Holtby
Corey Crawford

Worth noting, that in their last 19 respective games, only three canadian players have as many or more points than Ryan Getzlaf, who has 24 points. Those three are Joe Thornton (24), Sidney Crosby (25) and Connor McDavid (26). I don't know for sure, but checked the other star players in the league, and the only two other non-canadian forwards that have similar statistics to Getzlaf in that span are Patrick Kane (23pts), and Evgeny Kuznetsov (24). Hopefully, Getzy continues like that

Aslo, another interesting stat...Marchand 15 goals in his last 16 games :amazed: didn't really realized that.

He got his 31st goal tonight. Tied Seguin and had a great PK where he played 1:51 of the PK then took off on a SH rush leaving Kessel in the dust.

My roster.

Claude Giroux - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos
Jamie Benn - Jonathan Toews - Tyler Seguin
Patrice Bergeron - John Tavares - Brad Marchand
Jeff Carter - Ryan Getzlaf - Corey Perry
Taylor Hall

Drew Doughty - Shea Weber
Duncan Keith - Brent Burns
TJ Brodie - MJ Vlasic
PK Subban

Carey Price
Roberto Luongo
Corey Crawford

My roster.
I don't see how you leave off Connor MacDavid.

Claude Giroux - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos
Jamie Benn - Jonathan Toews - Tyler Seguin
Taylor Hall - Connor MacDavid - John Tavares
Jeff Carter - Ryan Getzlaf - Corey Perry
Patrice Bergeron

Drew Doughty - Shea Weber
Duncan Keith - Brent Burns
TJ Brodie - MJ Vlasic
PK Subban

Carey Price
Roberto Luongo
Corey Crawford

There's a gimmicky team called North American Young Guns, or Stars or whatever the marketing department at NHL HQ is calling them, players under the age of 24 (Canadian and U.S. born players) must play with the artificial and gimmicky Young Whatevers team, therefore you'll see McDavid and Eichel as teammates in September, not as 2 rising stars on opposing National Teams.

And have no intention of watching this nonsense and hopefully I'll be settling in for another Blue Jays pennant run in September. Go Jays.

Funny I keep seeing posts from people who have no intention in watching the tournament and think it is a joke yet they seem compelled to comment on it at every turn.

I don't care about the NHL, proof being that I seldom talk about it or watch it.

and I'll continue at every occasion right up until puck drop in September to rip this gimmicky nonsense... but once the puck drops it will get completely ignored and instead I'll be tuning in for another Blue Jays pennant race...at least the sports fan is hoping for another September to remember of baseball.

so, I suggest you make your peace with that...

Ok, Marchand is making a HUGE case for himself. Having a role-player who can perfectly kill penalties, has chemistry with Bergeron, and just scored his 31st goal of the season, which is btw just one goal less than Tyler Seguin, who's done it in six more games, can we really say no? I mean, he has six power-play goals, four shorthanded goals, five game-winning goals, and tied for 3rd in ES goals in the whole NHL.

Let's see how it goes in the rest of the season, but a Marchand-Toews-Bergeron line sounds great to me.

Marchand does deserve to be under serious consideration at this point, and really it should come down to what kind of team the coaching staff wants. I will say this - if the team was being picked under the old Hockey Canada mentality (80s/90s) then Marchand would be nearly a locked right now.

If Marchand made the team, I'd make a line that looked like this:

Marchand-Bergeron-Stamkos

Those two work as a pair and the 3rd player is more just a complementary piece on the line. Stamkos seems to have lost a step, but as long as he gets open, I think his shot would be deadly with Marchand-Bergeron doing all the dirty work. Those two are possession beasts, so he'd get his chances.

Other lines:

Benn-Crosby-Seguin
Tavares-Getzlaf-Perry
O'Reilly-Toews-Giroux

That would also leave you with 4 of the best faceoff guys in the league (two rightys, two leftys), a very defensively responsible bottom 6, and a tough to contain top 6.

It would be tough to leave two of Hall, Carter, and Duchene off the roster. But, I do like that lineup.

I've always thought that, it's likely that Hockey Canada selects only one of Hall and Duchene. I think the speed is something HC will want so they pick one at least.

For the penalty killing, we would have Marchand, Toews, Bergeron, O'Reilly as the major group, then maybe Benn-Giroux, and that should be enough. :dunno:

I see a lot of Getzlaf-Perry together as a pair, but I wouldn't have them together just because they are poor skaters. I wouldn't want Hall on the team either, he's the type of player that can cause a killer mistake. It doesn't matter if Bergeron is wing or centre on the depth chart, nobody is going to let one of the best faceoff men in the league not take the faceoff just because he is "wing." So if he is with Crosby, he's going to take draws like usual. I don't know where Tavares will fit in the line-up. The locks gotta be: Crosby, Toews, Tavares, Seguin, Benn, Stamkos, Getzlaf, Perry, Giroux, Bergeron, Stamkos, 2 spots open for O'Reilly, Marchand, Hall, Duchene, Carter.

I'm taking O'Reilly and Marchand, left shots, can play LW, and having great years along with being able to play two-way games. We know that Babcock loves balancing the lines, and there's a ton of balance in this line-up with size, some speed, ton of two-way ability, and grit.

If Giroux gets snubbed again I might lose my mind.

If he makes it, I'll be buying a jersey ASAP.

Funny how that works.

I expect Giroux to make it, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him cut again either. If Canada goes with Crosby/Getzlaf/Toews/Tavares as the centres, they might want players who are more obvious contributors at the wing positions to round out the roster. I do think that Giroux's play at the 2015 WHC makes him very likely though.
