Russia maybe?:)

Our brothers and #1 respected rival in international hockey to the end :). It would be perfect to have a Canada versus Russia final.

The only two true historical hockey superpowers. It would be a great final to have Canada v Russia battle it out for hockey supremacy in Toronto, the Mecca of Hockey.

Russia will be a powerhouse team. Russian fans who watch the World Cup will laugh at your decision to take KHL players over Russian NHL players at the Olympics.

Burns has solidified his spot, pretty much a lock since his 3 point night to close out the Kings in the 1st round.

Interesting hearing McKenzie's thought on TSN, as he is usually the media member who is closest to guessing the final rosters for Hockey Canada. He penciled Pietrangelo in on defence and thought that Burns would get the final right spot. He also said that Burns would make it over Letang, with Subban on the outside looking in. Surprisingly, to me at least, he thought that Bouwmeester would take the final left spot. Honestly, given the quality of Canada's right side defencemen I would just take another right handed defenceman, but he may be right. Perhaps Giordano and Brodie made a mistake not playing at the World Championships.

At forward he said that Perry and Duchene will probably be there, which doesn't surprise me given their loyalty, the 2014 Olympic roster and Getzlaf's selection. He also mentioned O'Reilly, Hall, Marchand, Stone and Gallagher. I would be shocked if Gallagher was picked. He just isn't as good as the other players, he's having a poor tournament in Russia at the moment and the right side is harder to make. I was also surprised that Giroux wasn't mentioned, but that may be because McKenzie was mainly focusing on those currently at the World Championship.

since I don't care about the outcome of this tournament, I'm all for Hockey Canada handing out roster spots as a loyalty rewards program. Although Burns is fully deserving to be there on his own merits. I'll applaud the decision to exclude a few Flames players on the basis of you haven't accrued the necessary loyalty program points. Good Job, Hockey Canada. if that is indeed the direction you are going.

Maybe there's some use to Gary Bettman's gimmicky tournaments after all.

TJ Brodie should be a no brainer in my opinion. As for forwards, I would take any of ROR, Duchene, Hall or Stone over Perry but I have a feeling that wont be the case.

I hate the tournament and I also won't be watching, but I do like getting an insight into what Hockey Canada thinks. I agree regarding rewarding players who show up for Hockey Canada as well. I wouldn't pick Perry for this tournament, but he's been a loyal player for Hockey Canada so by all means pick him. Same for Duchene. By the same token, I hope that they reward Giroux. Giordano and Brodie easily could have gone to the World Championships this year, but they just refused. Didn't even pretend to be hurt. Put them as the top pairing on the Canadian World Championship team and I would consider that team a very big favourite for gold, without them they are merely contenders. Why reward such players who are already just neck and neck with their competitors?

Duchene is also wearing the 'A' in Russia and having a good tournament so he's not just going to be there because of loyalty or anything. Not to mention a 30-goal season.

Man Giroux looked so good with Seguin at WC, and with Crosby on the pp in the gold medal game...Yet somehow he's always the forgotten man when it comes to A team selection...He makes my team

I like Perry, BUT I don't think Getzlaf belongs anymore...it's not like they're joined at the hip...or are they?

Gallagher...whatasicjoke...If Gallagher makes this team, even I might not watch...

Duchene + Hall...I couldn't pass on either guy because of their dynamic skating + Duchene is versatile wing/center...

Jaybo is getting long in the tooth...BUT he's another great skater, who can join the rush and chip in with offense if need be. Recall he scored two goals in one game, in a 2-2 with Austria once at WC's ( Canada went on to win gold )...Going all the way back to age 16 playing for Perry Pearns WJC team...have u ever, EVER seen JayBo play a bad game in a TC uni? I haven't

Not that I care about the gimmicky NHL preseason exhibition tournament, but I'm sure Giroux cares to be there among some of the best of his peers; and for all he has done for Hockey Canada at the WHC, if Hockey Canada leaves him off the September team, then I just hope Giroux becomes the new Jerome Iginla, and every spring ignores Hockey Canada's phone calls when they are scrounging up players to scoot off to Europe.

forgot to echo the sentiment that Burns has already made it...sans official announcement

I agree, I am sure Giroux wants to be there, no doubt. I want him to represent Team Canada (whether it is World Cup or WHC), I love to watch him play in Canada's jersey, but if Hockey Canada leaves him off this team again, then I hope he sends them clear answer about representing Team Canada under their management.

On the other side, if he's not selected, then I will be glad that he has extra time to fully recover from surgery, prepare and focus solely on new NHL season (and not on meaningless World Cup) where the Flyers could start to be once again an interesting and fun team to watch.

It's a win, win situation from my perspective as a Flyers fan.

that's right. I forgot he has had/or will have surgery. His hip isn't it? Maybe they'll name him and he'll decline the spot for health reasons. In the best Japanese tradition, nobody is disrespected and everybody saves face.

Not too worried about if Stone makes team,i think its just a matter of when .Everybody can see how good this guy is

Yes, he had surgery on tuesday, hip and abdominal tears. Oddly, Gostisbehere had the exact same injuries and underwent same surgery at the same day.

Perry, Getzlaf and Bouwmeester aren't players that I would pick for Canada 24O with the choices available, but who knows. I do assume that Perry is a lock. I suspect that he and Getzlaf are indeed a packaged deal, and Perry agreeing to play in the World Championship probably clinched the matter. Bouwmeester isn't someone I would really consider. Other than the defencemen already picked, Canada's best defencemen are very clearly Burns, Subban, Pietrangelo and Letang. I would pick three from that four. Pietrangelo can play the left side, and the conversion to the off side for elite players on NHL sized ice isn't a huge problem. Babcock is a conservative coach though, and I am certain that his voice will carry a lot of weight when it comes to selections. What McKenzie indicates is a team leaning toward conservatism.

Giroux should be rewarded. A legitimate snub in 2014, still an elite player and someone who has paid his Hockey Canada dues.

If the NHL goes to the 2018 Olympics, I expect that Stone will be there.

Here is my team if I got to select it:

Jamie Benn, Patrice Bergeron, Sidney Crosby, Matt Duchene, Ryan Getzlaf, Claude Giroux, Taylor Hall, Ryan O'Reilly, Tyler Seguin, Steve Stamkos, John Tavares, Joe Thornton, Jonathan Toews

Brent Burns, Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Alex Pietrangelo, PK Subban, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Shea Weber

Braden Holtby, Roberto Luongo, Carey Price

I realize that the actual team already has Jeff Carter and Corey Crawford named to it, but I would argue those are mistakes and not as good selections as the players I have chosen.

Last 4 forwards to make the roster:

Perry
Giroux
Duchene
Hall

Last 3 defensemen to make the roster:

Burns
Pietrangelo
Brodie

Stamkos - Crosby - Bergeron
Benn - Tavares - Seguin
Hall - Toews - Giroux
Duchene - Getzlaf - Perry
Carter

Keith - Weber
Vlasic - Doughty
Brodie - Burns
Pietrangelo

Price
Holtby
Crawford

Logan Couture and to a lesser extent, Kris Letang should be given serious consideration given their play in the playoffs. But they would seem long shots to make the roster. Couture not choosing to play for TC at the 2015 Worlds certainly doesn't help his case with regards to commitment to the national team that guys like Giroux/Perry/Hall/Duchene/Marchand have going for them. I would have chosen Couture to take Carter's spot on the team. I would imagine his game would fit well with Getzlaf/Perry on LW.

On defense, my personal last 3 picks would be Burns, Letang, and Subban. Would be fun.
