Bieber is a surprise, a lot of experience and a player you can put on any line. Didn't expect that.
Schneeberger or Marti probably won't be registered and could have to travel home if Josi gets available.

Very surprising move indeed, I expected Dino Wieser to be the last cut.

I guess one of Schneeberger or Marti won't be registred on defense and one of the Wieser brothers at forward. Could Andrighetto play LW with Marc Wieser RW? I'd rather have Dino Wieser as the odd man out but it won't happen if Andrighetto plays RW.

I liked Walker with Dino very much. Bieber's versatility has always been his big plus, but as a pure 4th Line checker, I can see why Fischer takes Wieser, even if he will cause a few stupid penalties. Nevertheless when Bieber doesn't make the team, it's a sign that the forward depth is very good.

Martschini will be on the team, either in the starting line-up or as 13th forwards. His old chemistry with Andrighetto has been obvious on that promising PP-Unit.

Diaz will take over Loeffel's spot in this PP-Unit IMO.

Moser- Haas- Hofmann / D.Wieser-Trachsler -Walker should be set.

I guess Nino- Andrighetto will be a combo with either Schäppi or Walser as C. Hollenstein-Ambühl will get either Lino or Marc Wieser.

So when Martschini is in the top 12 I guess Marc Wieser will be the odd man out.
When Martschini plays 13th forward, it's either Schäppi or more likely Walser in the stands.

on D I guess Marti-Diaz will be the 3rd pairing, with Schneeberger or Grossmann as 7th D.

Grossmann had an other horrible first 30 minutes in the second Latvia game, but looked much better second half after his clumsy, but impressive coast-to-coast move. Still could make the team as he is a pretty capable in Penalty killing.
His tunnel-vision is scary though.

Schneeberger was solid through all preparation games. But him being a Right Shot is for once a little disadvantage to make top 6. As Diaz, Weber and Dubois are all RS locks.

Thoughts?

It's pretty obvious that Martschini will be the 13th forward, he played it the last two games and it's probably the only role he can be successful at a World Championship.

One of Schneeberger and Marti will not be registered and may have to leave early (if Josi comes). I'd put Grossmann in this place. :)

Agree with both points. Credit to Fischer for finding a way to use Martschini, it can work really well.

The only question mark left is the exact forward lines. Moser - Haas - Hofmann is probably set, as well as Hollenstein - Ambühl, Trachsler - Walker and Andrighetto on the remaining line. Then it all depends on where you put Niederreiter, either with Hollenstein and Ambühl or with Andrighetto, which means that it's top line or bust for Marc Wieser. If Niederreiter plays with Andrighetto, then Schäppi is either their center or LW on Trachsler's line, and Walser or Dino Wieser takes the last spot left.

So basically:

Hollenstein - Ambühl - M. Wieser/Niederreiter
Moser - Haas - Hofmann
Niederreiter/Schäppi/D. Wieser - Walser/Schäppi - Andrighetto
D. Wieser/Schäppi - Trachsler - Walker
Martschini

Tonight's lineup, Walser is the odd man out, Marti and Schneeberger both get one more chance:

Berra

Blum - Du Bois
Grossmann - Diaz
Schneeberger - Weber
Marti

Hollenstein - Ambühl - M. Wieser
Moser - Haas - Hofmann
Niederreiter - Schäppi - Andrighetto
D. Wieser - Trachsler - Walker
Martschini

Not dressed: Zurkirchen, Geering, Walser

Well it looks like we see it all quite similar.

Everybody would like Grossmann to be cut, but feels he'll make the team eventually:)
And in the end he's a good skater and plays with grit, passion and energiy, as a 7th D and some boxplay time... he isn't that bad of a choice.
But hopefully not in the top 6, he just overplays his talent way to often.
So IMO it's up to Marti or Schneeberger to placehold the top 6 spot for Josi.
You think Fischer let him play top 6 anyway?

I still think Martschini could be a top12 option against the lesser competition. Maybe against Kazachstan to start?

I really like the way Fischer approaches this tournament: courageous, flexibel and has an idea of how to put players into positions which suit their strengh respectivly.

I good a very good feeling about this year...

I know you can't take these friendlies too seriously, but this game hurts my eyes..

First period was somewhat lucky by the Germans but right now they're dominating the 2nd and scored again. Lots of defensive mistakes through all the Swiss lines.

E: as soon as I write that, they scored a pair to make it a gane again. Still not impressed however.
At least the PP is effective so far.
Have to agree with my threadmates, really like what Martschini brings as an additional PP man.

Strange game indeed. I can't remember the Swiss getting dominated that way by a german team as they were in the second till Dubois' goal. No neutral zone presence, and once again physically unable to withstand an aggressivly forechecking opponent.

A fresh Martschini for the second half of the game was very entertaining.
Andrighetto's skating and twisting in the corners... Shades of Marcel Jenni.
Schäppi had a bad game IMO. Schneeberger looked best of the defensemen who could drop out.
Ninohadn't much influence on the game yet.

Diaz also had a rough start but got better as the game went on. Schäppi did win some bullies but I don't think that he's the solution between Nino and Andrighetto.

I didn't see Marti, did he get some ice-time? Blum didn't impress also.

Agree about Diaz, but you could see the upside as well. Just a much better player than Weber.
D allaround wasn't convincing. Dubbois had some problems as well. Grossmann being Grossmann.

Marti I believe was on the ice for Draisaitls 1st and had a rough play a bit later. Haven't noticed him afterwards.

Schäppi indeed looked lost between his wings.

i also watched the game vs Germans ... and wasn't impressed. Germans, at moments, seemed to be faster, more skilled and more lucky ... specially having draisaitl on the ice.

Appart of that the begining was full of mistakes ... i had paine in my eyes as well.

As time passed ... thing went better ... good we don't face Sweden or Russia in the first games.

As you say, small Marchini has a big shot.

Appart of that credit should be given to them for comming back from 0-3 to 4-3. i respect that.

next game saturday at 11.15 AM against Kazakhstan ... 100% or almost 100% KHLers. mostly Барыс Астана !!

дабай Швейцария (which means hop Schwitz)

Indeed. Weber had a solid game, didn't notice any error but didn't have much influence in the offence. Didn't play PP also, which is strange. His shot is the best of a Swiss Defender (beside Josi of course).

Diaz is just a smart player, great skater, good vision and good with the stick. He'll be fine, needs one or two games to adjust to the big ice. Same probably with Nino. I'd still like to see him beside Ambühl and Hollenstein, Wieser didn't impress me today.

That was strinking for Nino .. he really felt the ice was to big !!

I agree with most of what's been written about yesterday's game. Diaz improved as the game went on, but I'm not convinced by Weber, bad positioning and too slow, and Blum is overconfident sometimes, he should keep it more simple. Good game by the forwards, I guess Niederreiter will improve once he's more comfortable.

Overall it was a solid game apart from these few minutes early in the second period. Credit for the comeback and for managing to score four goals, but awful defensive plays by Grossmann and Diaz on the first and third goal. Good power play, as was the case for the whole training camp, although it suffered from the overall lack of finish. The PK on the other hand is often too agressive, I'm afraid it could be dangerous against teams with a strong power play.

I wonder if Fischer will stick with his original plan or go with the lines he used in the third period?

Fischer registered 15 skaters and 2 goalkeepers today. He registered 12 F, including Samuel Walser. Not registered are Marc Wieser and Reto Schäppi.

D registered are Du Bois, Weber and Diaz.

I guess it answers my question, we'll probably see the same lines Fischer used in the third period against Germany with Walser replacing Schäppi.

In the meantime, the chance to get Josi got pretty slim.

The official Youtube-IIHF-Streams seem to work this year in Switzerland, they were blacked out the last years.

He was, but decided to stay home.

damn. Was hoping to see him play, WC are the only chance to watch him. Is he still considered a top goalie in the league? I saw he had a great start to the year but then his numbers slowly declined to average.
