Czech Rep dominated Sweden in the second period and won 4-2. I have a hard time seeing the Swiss pulling that off.
With that said, a possible addition of Roman Josi in time for the Sweden game could influence the outcome. Filip Forsberg could be on the other side, though.

Josi won't come. There is no roster spot left.

Yes Czech won against SWE but also had troubles with Latvia.
I think 3 points out of those 3 games would be enough and that's possible, depending on their daily form.

Remember last year? Losses against Lat and Aut had them finishing with 8 points out of the 4 beatable games.
2 points against Cze and Swe afterwards brought them into the quarters at 10 points.
Germans were 5th with only 7 pts.

Definitely ...

And if we have good days, even more.

I still believe us more capable against Czechs or Russians than Swedes ... They have been our nemesis historically. And OMG i wish it wound't be like that but stats point awfully in that sense.

Im with you, even if Russia looks much more dangerous with the latest additions. Tarasenko won't be available at least, still could add Radulov though.

But no other Nation than Sweden can exploit the deficies in individual tactical on-ice behaviour the swiss hockey programm still suffers with. Sometimes they look 3 classes ahead.

The latest news about Diaz and Dubois are nice to hear. I guess they will continue with 8 Ds as it's a bit risky to go with 7 when 2 guys have issues. No Josi available for doubleshifts.

And we definitely miss some physical strong Defensmen to clear the crease during the Boxplay. But we've been extremly lucky sometimes in the past when the opponents couldn't burry top chances. This year the Swiss get a payback .

The Wiesers with Walker looked good, were able to keep cycling the puck down low, could have scored too. Nice to have a second line beside Nino's to do so.

Schäppi wasn't convincing enough again, I still want Haas back.

Czech Rep. doesn't look that beatable anymore :D
No it's actually a good thing that they don't give points to our direct opponents.
Those nations will also steal points from each others so no one will get the maximum I think.

Which will be the best of the bunch?

Kaz: certainly better than thought, but lost to norway in regulation.
I don't see them in the quarters.

Latvia: got points from the big ones but lost straight against us.
They have to win the next 3 games. I don't think they will.

Nor: beat Kaz but lost clearly vs. Dan and Czech, not a quality team this year.

Dan: the only opponent left that could hurt us even if we do our job (meaning 2-3 points vs. the big ones) they beat Nor and are clearly able to beat also Kaz and Lat, the only thing going in our favor is that we won the h2h so they need one more point than Svizzera. Wow that OT point was HUGE looking at it that way.

If the big teams do the job, the most everyone can get is:

Norway 8 pts
Denmark 10 pts
Kazakhstan 8 pts
Latvia 11 pts

depending on what happens in the last four games between them (DEN vs LAT, KAZ vs LAT, DEN vs KAZ, LAT vs NOR).

I guess the winner of Denmark - Latvia has the biggest chance of advancing, I doubt Norway and Kazakhstan have much of a chance with their schedule, which is good for Switzerland as they have the tiebreaker against Denmark and Latvia. It would be good if Denmark - Latvia goes to OT.

About our future opponents, i just watched Russia- Danemark.

I was not overly impressed by our Dane friends already when we played them ... Against Russia, they were simply annihilated. Russians are monsters. And without Ovie, Kutznetzo and Orlov. ... . If these 3 add to the mix positively ... they will be dreadful.

This game will be a tough one. A good test for us.

I actually even chose them as the favorite to be champion. I am seriously impressed. And way above any other team.

Josi broke his finger in one of the last games, that's probably the reason why the spot went to Marti.

Du Bois and Diaz were on the ice today.

With the way he played in game 7, seems like a blessing in disguise...

2 points for Denmark against Latvia, that's the best possible result for Switzerland. Now Denmark and Latvia can get 9 points while Norway and Kazakhstan can get 8, which means that Switzerland only needs two more, assuming of course that Sweden, Russia and The Czech Republic get three points against Norway, Norway too and Denmark respectively.

Update after today's games:

SUI 4g 7pts left: RUS, SWE, CZE
DEN 5g 6pts left: CZE, KAZ
NOR 4g 5pts left: SWE, RUS, LAT
LAT 5g 3pts left: KAZ, NOR
KAZ 5g 2pts left: LAT, DEN

So we're a little bit clearer than before, still a lot of possible outcomes.

Latvia and Kazakhstan are most probably out now, as expected. Even if they win their remaining games, the maximum Lat can get is 9 points with losing tie breakers to both SUI and DEN.

Denmark is still the strongest opponent. Could end up with at least 9 pts. We have the tie breaker there at least.

Norway is not expected to get more than 3 points out of those match ups but they have the tie-breaker against us so that would also mean we need 9+ pts.

All in all, not much has changed. Standing at 7 points would certainly be the end of our hopes. A win (3 pts) would give us 10 pts and most definitely a place in the quarters.

2 pts should be enough to reach the quarters. The game vs. KAZ which never should have been lost still hurts. With a win in regulation there the team could already plan for the quarters.

I feel pretty good about our chance after this scandalous game. It took Jerabek's finest performance to make sure the score didn't look close.

I just hope that seeing Marti in a game like this will open the eyes of everybody who can't see that when picking defensemen at this level, skating should always have priority over strength.

And the biggest disappointment of the day, Datsyuk's behavior. I would never had expected this from him.

...we should get some points in the 2 remaining games ...

the only problem is that there are 2 games left only to score points.

On the other side, normaly i would have said that we had a chance to makes points against Russian > Czechs > Swedes. But maybe this year it is different.

This years could be more like Swedes > Czechs > Russians (spceially that the Russian chance is already gone ;-) )

in tomorrow's game i trust.

I would usually say Czech > Sweden > Russia, but this year Sweden is the weakest of the three and the game against Russia was close, good reasons for hope.

Would also be nice to have OT between Kazakhstan and Latvia. After Denmark-Latvia, time to support team tie again!

That's right but if you think of Untersander (who was the 9th guy), he also isn't the fastest skater. I thought Marti struggled but if you remember that this was his first game at this level he wasn't that bad.

Thought the D played really well today, Weber had a strong game, also Geering (who is very, very underrated IMHO) and Schneeberger.

Anyway, Diaz would still be important for tomorrow. So we could further reduce the ice-time of Marti and Grossmann.

I don't blame Fischer for picking Marti, I agree that there were no clearly better player available.

Agree about Geering and Schneeberger, both are criminally underrated, despite Geering already showing his worth last year.

Totally agreed about Marti. He is just a kind of backup plan for this year, but i dont think he should be a choice for the future.

Geering had a very good game. Very responsible in his own zone, but he doesnt have the tools offensively imo. But good choice for the 3rd line.

I am normally not make fuss with the referees, but today it was really bad for the swiss squad.

One word on Nino, he is becoming the kind of guy we were waiting for Switzerland. Not afraid, sure of him, I would like more guys like him. A very important player for long, long time. Wait the same about Timo Meier.

Kudos to Moser too, he get back to very good level.

So my beloved team tie couldn't hold on a late 1-1 lead. Kazakhstan definitely out and relegated, but could still help by getting a result against Denmark.

Now Switzerland can't qualify with 7 points, result needed either tomorrow or on tuesday.

Indeed, that's the Moser who got an NHL-contract. The last time I saw him play like this was at the WC 2013.

Geering remindes me a lot of Seger. Not big, but a very intelligent defender, always able to keep his position and smart in his own zone with a good first pass. And a good skater.
