This offense showed that if they can have the puck they can play, but damm that defense still scares me, Pokka/Lindell are making so many mistakes every game and I'm just waiting when will it end up hurting us.

On JA I saw a post that claimed that scoring chances were 10-6 to Finland. In any case after those first 5 minutes, our team defence really shut out the Canadians from the most dangerous areas, they cycled a lot, won board battles in the corners and then didn't convert them to much anything expect bad quality shots from outside the perimetre. Yes, our defence could be better, but it really could be also much, much worse...

This is what I wanted to see from Koskinen. Now I can trust the guy fully. He's a deserved starter goalie now.

Looks like we are going to meet RUS in the semifinal if we beat Denmark so I expect the usual:
1. Several of our players will start puking and/or getting other surprise diseases, maybe even before the Denmark game so it looks less suspicious
2. Refs will be like in 2014 final

I really hope I am wrong, but I've seen this too many times.

I'm worried about that too. That is honestly why I was hoping for a Canada win today.
Sweden in the qf would have been better with a chance to play against CZE/USA in the semi final.

Finland has enough bronze medals for me to give a rat's ass if they lose against Russia.

I don't know why you would rather face Russia in the finals than in the semifinals if you are only worried about the referees.

Silver is better than bronze. If you lose in the semis, it might be nice to win your final game when it's a consolation prize. But I prefer to see Finland in gold medal games not bronze medal games :)

Oh well, all we can do now is hope the Finns save all their energy for the semi-final, and no injuries please!

Any update on Koskiranta? What about Kukkonen and Laine?

I don't think it was our defense as much it was offense, our forwards were able to keep the puck and controll the game.

We know it will happen.
Best would be to travel on match day and take your own water, drinks and snacks with you.
I'm praying for Germany to win their QF...

Would a gold medal at this event cause Finnish fans to care a little about the NHL's World Cup if only to see if Finland could make it 4/4 in 2016?

I honestly think a gold medal at this tournament would only make the WC more popular amongst Finnish fans, as it will produce more confidence in Finnish fans hoping for 4/4 gold medals!

As a Canadian, I have to give the Finnish team credit. They play hockey as it was meant to be played. With a high level of skill, grit, 2 way play and a committed team first approach.

Much respect to Team Finland. I found myself rooting for them today at times. Really easy team to like.

Any update on Koskiranta? What about Kukkonen and Laine?

Both Koskiranta and Laine are healthy. Kukkonen had some problems with his groin earlier in this tournament so Jalonen might just given him a rest after the game was 3-0.

Now that Rantanen seems to have the spot I can't give too much critic to Jalonen anymore. We're winning and we're actually winning with really good effort. He's doing something (all things?) right.

Locker room news. According to Komarov (the unofficial DJ) this song might be the most played atm at their locker room :yo: 90's eurodance making the comeback!!!!

Kukkonen missed practice as well. If he can't play, we've only got 6 dmen left. This may not be an issue tomorrow, but after that the situation may get hairy (assuming they beat Denmark).

Even if worst comes to worst and Barkov couldn't play tomorrow, they could still ice a pretty good team. For example, they could play Granlund as a center instead or they could actually just throw Lajunen with Jokinen and Laine (which would not disturb the other lines). Playing with six defensemen should not be a problem either.

The NHL's preseason tournament will be broadcast on a pay channel so the television ratings will be abysmal. Most will not even be aware of the tournament.

Don't know if he is slow, but they are with Lindell the worst pairing on the team. Pokka maybe not so sucky as Lindell though.

Can anyone say what the hell has happened to Lindell in just one year??!!! Last year he was magnificent in FEL and Finland's clearly best defenceman in the WHC. He was very good and calm with the puck, and he shot very well also, and got the puck well to the crease.

Now he is handling the puck like a hand grenade and can't literally shoot the puck without hitting the first blocking opponent's defending player. And his skating looks also atrocious compared to last year. What the hell they did to him in AHL? Aliens came and abducted the real Lindell or what?
