I would like to see Petr Holik in the training camp. He's had pretty good season, and was great in the playoffs. Smallish but quite skilled forward. Obviously, I am not saying that he should be on the final roster... But I would like to give him a chance in the training camp and in April games.

Thoughts?

I think if Simon made the cut last year then Holik should be given a chance at least. I know he isn't considered NHL material, but worth a shot.

The newest information regarding our team:

It is pretty much confirmed that Alexander Salak and Martin Erat won't go to WHC. They declined an invitation to the training camp.

Good. Erat was terrible last year, his best days are over.

Salak was awful as well. He simply isn't good enough to play for the national team.

:) Yeah, I know, yes it is true, less NHL players for us. Not the best times for Czech hockey.

I mean, there is a group of Czech users who used to post relatively lot during or before some major international tournaments. I am just surprised, it's all me in this thread.

Good to see some response tho!

But the team is shaping up pretty good with possibly Plekanec - Hanzal - Sobotka down the middle.

Well, perhaps Czech Rep got a boost with Boston dropping out of the Top 8. Adding a player like Krejci would be a significant add. It would give the Czechs a solid 1-2 punch down the middle. I'm assuming Plekanec has already confirmed he'll play. I don't tend to follow the Canadiens news too much.

I read every post in this thread and when the tournament starts, I will be here and I will be active. It's just that right now all we can discuss are cuts from the team or possible NHL players. Not so exciting if you ask me :)

Cuts that happened so far are nothing surprising really, I hope players like Kubalik, Pribyl, Jerabek, Repik, Buchtele, Simek join the camp if they get kicked out in the Extraliga. Maybe even give chance to a 20 years old Indrak? He has the stats... (For camp at least) :dunno:

Yup, I am looking forward to see players like Kubalik, Pribyl or Buchtele in the preliminary games and possibly on the WHC. Not sure about Indrak, I really don't know much about him.

Haha, well there isn't too much to discuss really. And I find that as I get older, the world championship seems to become less important in my mind. Best on best (and WJC) is where it gets really interesting imo. Maybe it's also because I've watched us win two golds so winning again perhaps wouldn't be quite as exciting? Not sure.

But thanks for keeping these threads alive! We never have enough people on here :)

Well, that's not the case for me. I love this tournament and probably always will. I love the time for this tournament. WHC games in afternoon / evening and then at night NHL play-offs. What a beatufiul time for a hockey fan.

I don't have a problem if it is not a true best-on-best. I am really not sure if... for example August / September would be better time. I don't see it. That's maybe because I am so used to May, really great time of the year. But tbh, I am convinced that May is the best time for this tournament.

Basically, I started to follow hockey and started to be hockey fan thanks to the WHC, when I was a little kid, I think that I will always have a soft spot for this tournament. :)

I love it almost as much as WJC, which is another truly beatiful time for a hockey tournament and it is fantastic tournament by itself.

Good. Erat was terrible last year, his best days are over.

Salak was awful as well. He simply isn't good enough to play for the national team.

Sure, fully agree, it's a good thing that they won't be there.

Oh, that would be fantastic add, obviously. + possibly Pasta. Yes, Plekanec is pretty much confirmed. He has the interest to go.

Erat was terrible compare to his level 5 years ago. Still very solid. Those guys know how to play and aren't nervous. YOu can say Simon shone last year. Still he looked nervbou when they put him next to Jagr. Erat also did some small important things...

Possible lines against Germany tomorrow:

Radil - Koukal - Vincour (solid line, could be 4th line on WHC)
Holik - Cervenka - T. Zohorna
Kaspar - Kousal - Zatovic
Gulas - Horak - Cerveny

Docekal - Hruska - Kana

Kundratek - Kempny (should be lock pairing for WHC)
Rutta - Doudera
Zamorsky - Krejcik
Jank - Hrabal

Kolar (injured but skating)

Kovar, Francouz, Furch

From what I have read... there are bad news regarding Hanzal, Sobotka, Frolik and their injuries. That would really suck if none of them will be available. But still only rumours.

Out of last 4 remaining teams in Czech play-off, which players would you like to see in training camp?

Mlada Boleslav: Troncinsky
Liberec: Simek, Repik
Plzen: Jerabek, Kubalik
Sparta: Polasek, Pribyl, Buchtele

Absolutely: Simek, Kubalik, Pribyl (I want those in the final roster)
Maybe: Jerabek, Repik, Buchtele (Players who have the skill to compete for final roster spot)
Don't know much about: Troncinsky, Polasek

1st preliminary game is over. Dominant win against Germany today. 7-2 for Czech republic. Shots were 36-18 in favor of Czech republic.

Goals:
Docekal (Hrabal)
Rutta (Cervenka, Doudera)
Holik (T. Zohorna)
Koukal (Vincour)
PPG - Radil (Kundratek, Kempny)
Holik (T. Zohorna, Doudera)
PPG - Vincour (Koukal)

Players from Mlada Boleslav which will join the team: Troncinsky, Jarusek, Urban.

My projected line-up:

This is based on the situation in which Sobotka, Hanzal, Frolik are all injured and can't go. Boston don't make the playoffs. And at this point I am not considering any possible NHL 1st round additions.

M. Michalek (31) - Krejci (29) - Pastrnak (19)
Cervenka (30) - Plekanec (33) - Gulas (30)
Sekac (23) - Kovar (26) - Pribyl (23)
Radil (25) - Koukal (33) - Vincour (25)

Kubalik (20) / Zatovic (31) or Filippi

Kempny (25) - Kundratek (26)
Zamorsky (23) - Nakladal (28)
Jordan (25) - Z. Michalek (33)

Jerabek (24)

Pavelec (28)
Furch (25)
Francouz (25)

Avg. age: 26.6

Czech republic won also 2nd game against Germany. 2-1 this time. Shots were 23-14 for Czech republic. Germany showed way better defensive game yesterday. Next games are against Switzerland.

Goals scored by: Zatovic (Holik, Jank), Kundratek (Koukal, Kempny).

First cuts has been made: Jank (D), Krejcik (D), Docekal (F) and Kana (F). Nothing surprising here.

Dominik Kubalik and Jakub Jerabek will join the team as Plzen have been eliminated from the play-offs. Tomas Voracek (Mlada Boleslav) will join the team too.

Current roster:

Dominik Furch
Pavel Francouz

Good news for the Czech Rep. Plekanec is in. instead of my favorite Canada v USA final, a Canada v Czech Rep final will be just as entertaining.

Another bad news. Nakladal didn't pass medical test in Calgary so he is out, too. M. Michalek is injured btw.

Line-up against Switzerland today:

Cervenka - Holik - Kubalik
Radil - Koukal - Vincour
Kaspar - Urban - Zatovic
Gulas - Kousal - T. Zohorna

Kundratek - Kempny
Rutta - Jerabek
Zamorsky - Doudera
Troncinsky - T. Voracek

Kovar (starter)
Francouz

Scratched: Furch, Hrabal, Kolar, Jarusek, Hruska, Cerveny.

Did Novotny, Erat and Nemec retire from the NT?

I don't think so. They just took year off. Especially, Nemec, Novotny, they played a lot for the national team in past years.

Jordan is officially confirmed, he will join the team next wek, alongside to Sekac and Pastrnak. Plekanec will join the team later, I think. Hanzal still unsure. Those are all additions for now (NHL). We will have to wait for the end of 1st round.

Lukas Radil is out, he's injured. That's unfortunate. Radil - Koukal - Vincour - they looked like promising line.

2-1 OT win over Switzerland yesterday. Holik and Vincour with goals. Great performance by our goalie, Francouz.

Next series of cuts has been made: Troncinsky, Rutta, Cerveny and Hruska will leave the team. Again, nothing surprising here.

Jordan and Sekac will join the team next week.

Possible arrival of Jakub Stepanek was ruled out.

It appears to be confirmed that our 3 goalies for WHC will be Francouz, Furch and Kovar.
That's pretty surprising, don't see why we can't wait for Mrazek, who I think will be available. If Philly is eliminated, I don't think that Neuvirth would accept an invite as he was injured at the end of season. But Mrazek should absolutely be there if he is healthy and willing to go. Not sure why Vujtek said it at this time that Francouz, Furch and Kovar will be the 3 goalies for WHC. Maybe he knows something more.

Roster as it stands right now:

Francouz
Furch
Kovar

Kempny
Kundratek
Jordan
Kolar
Zamorsky
Jerabek
T. Voracek
Doudera
Hrabal

Cervenka
Koukal
Kaspar
Zatovic
T. Zohorna
Kousal
Vincour
Sekac
Gulas
Holik
Kubalik
Urban
Jarusek

Yes, it would be very "entertaining". I think a realistic goal for this team is making the quarterfinals but it won't be easy. Anything beyond that should be considered an overachievement.
