We have not been talking about it very much but how does everyone feel about a guy like Talbot holding the fort in nets for us?

I am not seeing anything from it's forward group that i see in their team thread that seems to me they should be considered the favorites yet though.

Granted, i don't have a good grasp on their KHL guys but overall it does not appear to be anything special yet IMO.

Also, I have a feeling they can count on long runs from Ovechkin and malkin this year, don't think they can count on those guys this year.

But the playoffs are impossible to predict of course.

1st. rd. Chicago v St. Louis = either Panarin/Anisimov or Tarasenko

1st. rd. Detroit v T. Bay = Datsyuk or Kucherov + others.

2nd. rd. Pitt v Washington = Malkin or Ovechkin/Kuznetsov/Orlov

After the 2nd. rd. of the NHL playoffs the majority of those players will be in Moscow.

Forgot about that possible Pitt-Wash 2nd round matchup and the others you have here have opened my eyes too.

Yeah, they will still get a good amount of help now that I look at it.

Still, nothing that can't be overcome as long as we get a couple more good d-men.

Our forwards will still match up fine with them.

Oh please that's bull **** and you know it. Canada is not the favourite to win gold. Beyond the top 6 this team is very average looking. Taking into account Canada's recent WC record. It wouldn't surprise me if theirs team doesn't medal.

ps. Giroux won't be joining this team. Come on people.

it's what I've been saying for days. too young and too weak on D, unless there are significant additions after the first rd. of the POs, this team doesn't advance beyond the 1/4 final.

Giroux may indeed not be joining, but we better come up with comparable players to join if this team is to have a shot.

You're overselling the competition. As it stands right now it would take a sizable upset (like in 2012 or 2013) for this team to not make the semi finals.

He's fine. At this level if the team plays well n front oh him he will look good, and if they play poorly he will look bad.

4 or 5. most likely just 4. 22 man roster, and that's it. HC won't add any more no matter who becomes available.

Generally true, but last year they added Crosby and relegated Schenn to 14th forward.

to make it a 23-man roster. extraordinary circumstances. You make room for Crosby and relegate Schenn to the press box. of course. no brainer. That's the only time Hockey Canada will do that. I have my doubts they do it for anybody not named Sid Crosby. I'm sure McDavid will achieve that status shortly.

They'll name 4 players to make it a 22 man roster. and there will be no additions except for injury replacement or Sid says, ya I'll give it another go.

I am confident that they would do it for any elite player, who would be as much interested to go as Crosby was last year.

They currently have 18 players including 2 goalies

Currently 11 + 5 + 2= 18

If the go with 22 this means they can add only 4 (2 d and 2 f)

13 + 7 + 2 = 22

I'm not so sure. Hockey Canada doesn't like taking a player + his family to Europe to have that player sit in the stands. They don't think it is fair to the player to commit to playing and then get relegated to the sidelines.

but I suppose it depends on who the late addition is and who the player getting relegated is...

The Crosby "I want in" phone call was a once in a blue moon occurrence. I'm sure we'll see it as often as we see Haley's comet make its flyby. next appearance in 2062, I believe.

Well, yes, it's not ideal and I agree that Crosby and his willingness to go was pretty unique but... let's say if Doughty, Benn, Price, Toews, Tavares or Giroux really wants to go and play. Canada has room on the roster (like they always have) and it's before the start of the tournament, I can't see them saying "sorry, we don't you here" or something like that. Especially when such a player could be the last missing piece. I think, it doesn't need to be only Crosby, as I mentioned, Canada has obviously a good number of elite players who would be perceived similarly. That's at least how I see it when I think about it.

Player who would be affected by that, can always play in some less important game(s). Schenn also played against France, I think, at least. And even if young player is scratched for most games, it's still pretty good experience for him, to stay, train and prepare with group of immensely talented players which Canada has, now for 2 years in a row.

For anybody not named Crosby, I think they will. but if we go 5 years of 1/4 final exits in a row, then all bets are off and Hockey Canada will rev up the engine and go all guns firing... like we saw last year. HC can pretty much do that whenever it wants to...the only problem is, at least as far as I see it, they don't do it as often as I would like.
There's no doubt the pressure is off this year and with the pending World Cup, it's an unfortunate set of circumstances, as Lou Lamoriello likes to say...

Oh, and just another point, they had roster room last year even after Sid joined, Tavares wanted in as well, and Hockey Canada said no. and they said no to Bergeron for other reasons, "we want a younger team", I think is what Hockey Canada told him.

Can you imagine last year's team adding Tavares and Bergeron to the mix. Oh my word.

So, I rest my case. :)

It would be ridiculous.

I heard about Bergeron, Tavares from last year, but - were they really that much interested? Anyway, that team already had Crosby AND Giroux down the middle + Hall, Seguin on the wings...

I mean, maybe Hockey Canada was like: "ohh, guys, listen, we want this tournament to be at least a little bit competitive" but still... we all know how it looked.

Wow, so after last year's dominance this is Canada's new roster...?

A quarterfinal exit seems realistic.

I doubt they would take an extra player just because he wanted to go unless it was a very special case. Canada didn't bother to take Bergeron when he was possibly willing, they didn't take Spezza when he literally asked to go, they didn't take Weber when he was available a few years ago. Any of them could have been the difference in those respective tournaments.

Looking at the other teams I would be pretty dissapointed with a quarterfinal exit.

I see no juggernaut Canada has to beat, all very average teams for our competition.

McDavid needs wingers who can cycle with him (he's really agile along the boards) and at least one should have a great one-timer to convert his seeing-eye passes. Hall is more of a guy who attacks off the rush so they didn't work as well against tighter checking teams on NA ice. Maybe they could work against the more passive defenders on European ice.
