I agree. Theye are bringing their best as it means everything for Russia.

Having said that, last year Russia did have its A team in the Czech Republic and Canada it's A minus or B plus team and we know how that worked out.

If Canada adds 2 A forwards and 2 A defence after the 1st round of the Stanley Cup then Canada could certainly beat Russia. It will be very similar to last year.

I think if Russia was smart they would go with the players they have after the first round of the Stanley Cup. This will allow them to gel as a real team rather than waiting for saviours to arrive.

McDavid needs wingers who can cycle with him (he's really agile along the boards) and at least one should have a great one-timer to convert his seeing-eye passes. Hall is more of a guy who attacks off the rush so they didn't work as well against tighter checking teams on NA ice. Maybe they could work against the more passive defenders on European ice.

So something like Marchand McDavid Stone...

Not at the moment they are not. Team Canada is a favorite number 1 at this point. They are always biggest favorite on paper, there are a lot of talent again.

We know better when first NHL playoff round is done. Russia may get many big names after first round but Canada may get similar late additions like Crosby was last year.

Wow, so after last year's dominance this is Canada's new roster...?

A quarterfinal exit seems realistic.

Uh...you know what, on the other hand, I quite enjoy to be an under-dog. I can't wait how much will people be surprised. This team is going to be great. Even without any other additions, the offense is capable of a lot, and the defence, for this tournament, is solid. I'm very, very confident they will win the gold, wouldn't be surprised if it was in a similar fashion as last year.

Btw, the copmarison I did a few days ago, I compared TOP9 forwards from last year's team, and TOP9 forwards from this year's team - The average amount of points (in 2014-15 nhl season) for one forward last year, was 67 per player. The average amount of points (in 2015-16 nhl season) for one forward this year, is 65 points. And that is without Crosby, Giroux, or Seguin.

Thanks.

I am not seeing anything that screams "favorite" to me out of that group as it stands.

I'm sure they will be pretty good but I think favorite would be pushing it IMO.

You are very welcome. The thing to keep in mind is the KHL final is still being played and is deadlocked at two games a piece between Central Army Club and Magnitagorsk. Several players like Radulov and Mozyakin will likely be added from that series. And Russian top players from every NHL eliminated team will be added right up to the World Championship final on May 22. These guys will not turn down the invite unless injured seriously. Weddings, having babies, family time, fatigue don't fly with the Kremlin. Also the Russian Ice Hockey Federation does not mind saying move over to a player who is now training with the national team to make room for the NHL stars. The head coach, Znarok, has said they will use the best from NHL and KHL.

Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

AND?
It was only one game.
Russian hockey is not so bad.

Look at our performance at the World Championship U-20)

I'm just playing around.

Russia has very good hockey. Russia and Canada are the biggest rivals in international hockey.

meh, I'd rather watch Canada v USA go at it. provided of course it's all the best players on deck and available. just better hockey imo.

so, no news while I was away? additions, players suddenly coming down with previously undisclosed injuries?

Maybe it's the nostalgia and history. I am always extra fired up when we play the Russians just due to the great history between us.

USA is a close second, some crazy games recently (2010 & 2014 Olympics, 2015 WJC. Plus our women = awesome hockey. No joke some of the most exciting hockey you can watch).

But yeah no news on additions. Probably after first round of the playoffs.

Yeah you're not going to get like any of those guys. The most likely candidates, and they're still pretty unlikely, are Muzzin and Burns, MAYBE Pietrangelo, but I would highly bet against that. You're more likely to see like maybe Scandella, or Calvin Da Haan. Heck it would even be great to get Bouwmeester, but he's gone so many times.

You're never going to get Luongo, or Fluery. MAYBE Dubnyk, but I doubt it.

I want our top 6 to be: O'Reilly-McDavid-Marchand and Hall-Duchene-Gallagher

other than Tavares, anybody already named to the September World Cup team will decline any invite to go. And who knows, Tavares may take a pass as well. but out of Minny, Scandella and Spurgeon would be a decent choice. Tavares and Da Haan/Hamonic may be our best bets for filling out the final 4/5 roster spots.

Spurgeon would be great, really like him as a player.

Hoping for Hamonic too but I dunno if he would come.

So something like Marchand McDavid Stone...

The puck retrieval/stealing abilities of those three together would drive opponents nuts. To those that are familiar with Stone's game, does he have a great one-timer or is he more of an Eberle type sniper that relies on gathering the puck and using his accuracy over speed? While Eberle was effective on McDavid's wing, many of us Oilers fans noticed how deadly a player with a quicker trigger than Eberle would be because the goalie would have little time to react.

Hamonic has been out with injury, so I highly doubt he would go if available. Tavares is the big prize here. Couturier would be useful to free up O'Reilly from checking line duties, but he does have the NHL's idiotic tournament upcoming. Toffoli would be a nice, somewhat realistic addition. I agree that the Minnesota defencemen would receive calls from Hockey Canada. It's looking like a pretty small group of defencemen right now, but on that ice surface it shouldn't matter much.

I don't think there is any player on Canada with a particularly big, fast shot. Stone is pretty similar to Eberle in that he uses timing more than anything else to score. It's a forward group with mostly heady players.
