Serious injury?

Didn't look too bad, he was moving around so nothing that you would think too serious to the spine. But they did put him on the board & tie him down & neck injuries aren't things you want to mess with. There could be a crack or something. I guess we'll know once they do an MRI.

My ideal off-season.

- Nylander/Sosh/Hyman play well enough to stay up (pre off-season)
- Win lottery, draft Matthews
- Hunter does his magic with all other picks
- Sign Stamkos to reasonable deal
- Zaitsev signs
- Vesey signs
- Marner has a good off-season and gets a spot out of camp
- Brown/Leivo/Kapanen/Leipsic make strides and get spots out of camp...

JvR - Stamkos - Marner
Hyman - Matthews - Soshnikov
Leivo - Nylander - Kapanen
Vesey - Leipsic - Brown
xxxx - Kadri - Komarov

Too much talent to even make 4 lines.

Then Gauthier, Bracco, Timashov, Johanson...

Honestly a lot of those guys won't pan out, but lots of options.

Winnipeg looking like the biggest challenger for 30th OA. They have 4 points up on us in 1 more GP. Edmonton has 6 more points in 4 more GP. Edmonton is 5-4-1 in their L10, while Winnipeg is 2-7-1 (worse than the Leafs).

Looking at this one (beautiful but flawed) GAR method

and...

To be a top 4 team we need

1 20+ GAR player
1 15-20 GAR player
2 10-15 GAR players
4 5-10 GAR players
7 0-5 GAR players
7 >0 GAR players

Not saying I have a ton of faith in this or anything, but for late night kicks.

(Yes the system under values D-men)

Potentially....
20+ (0/1)
15-20 (1/1) - 1 of Marner/Nylander?
10-15 (3/2) - 1 of Marner/Nylander + JvR + Kadri
5-10 (4+/4) - Sosh? Hyman? Kapanen? Rielly (only cause the system screws D) Leivo? Brown?

We just need 1 of Marner or Nylander to turn out being elite and 1 absolute stud. Like Matthews

Keep Brown and Kapanen in AHL until you find a trade for a RHD prospect

Komarov - Kadri - Hyman
Vesey - Leipsic - Leivo

Brown has paid his dues and would have probably been among the initial callups. Will bet he's called up after a few youngsters are sent down.

Not to nitpick but I don't see Leipsic as C in the bigs.

Send Marner to the swiss league, Brown to the NHL, Kapanen another year in the AHL being a go to guy and we hope he plays the full season

I like that idea.

I am not sure if Marner will be on board with that. Some guys get homesick or just don't want to live abroad. Plus we have an excellent coaching, development staff, and a world class training facility right here. Maybe the best thing for him is to spend the year up here, play 50% of the games, work on his body the other 50%, and get ready for 17/18.

He'd rather be manhandled and injured ?
I'm worried he gets injured.
He has the skills to be a NHL player, but he needs some beef to protect himself.
Plus I want to tank hard next year.
He doesnt need to be here for next year's tank.

Gaudreau and Kane haven't been manhandled or injured and I imagine once Marner comes in after a good summer he should be bigger then they were in their first NHL seasons, no?

Drafted 2011. First year in NHL was 2014-15

Marner
Drafted 2015.
So his first year should be 2018-19 ?

possibly.
I just dont see the point.

Leafs are tanking next year.
Babcock and Shanny want to draft their way to a good team.
You need to keep tanking to do that most effectively.

I don't think the Leafs will be a bottom 5 team this year - just looking at the games since Babcock got his skilled rookies in the lineup, yes there have been losses but they've all been by 1 goal, meaning they could have gone either way.

The rookies + a healthy JVR + a few smart free agent signings means this is likely the last season for a while that the always are a bottom of the barrel team.

I'm also not as hesitant about bringing Marner into the NHL. The Wild's jared spurgeon is 5'9, 175 pounds and plays physical style of game and seems to be just fine.

I'm all for the tank but I don't want to deliberately hold anyone back either. I don't see what he gets out of the OHL next year. The Europe discussion is silly. I'd bet a ridiculous sum of money on it not being a possibility.

Plus all of these sites with his weight etc are out of date, he was pretty much 170lbs according to Paul Hendrick via twitter at training camp, and according to some posts here who have gotten to see him, he's basically 6 feet tall now, so let's say next year at training camp he measures in at 180lbs and 6 feet tall.

How do you feel about his size? I'm of the opinion his talent level is far beyond the OHL at this point, he'll need to get rid of some bad habits from Jr. at the next level but the only way he'll do it is by playing at the next level.

March of the Penguins

PIT vs CBJ -> The Pens need to get points in these types of games. Philly could potentially be 1 point back with 1 GiH if things don't go PITS way tonight
PHI vs TBL -> Philly is closing the gap on the Pens quickly. A loss tonight would at the very least put a lot of pressure on Philly with time running out
ANA vs STL -> Both teams are likely out of reach, ANA is just closer to the Pens so I went with them
CHI vs DAL -> No relevance to any pick.
ARI vs CAL -> Only game with any Leaf related effects. Calgary in OT would be perfect. Both teams currently at 67 GP, CAL 61pts, ARI 63pts.

And if anyone doesn't understand the format:
BOLD -> Clear cut winner
ITALICS -> OT/SO game
UNDERLINE -> Winner usually has a weak effect on any pick, but the other option usually has 0 effect.

For sure could happen.
Tanking aint that great anyway.

I love JVR. I want to keep him.
But I think we have to move him for a D.
He's got 2 more years and then he'll cost a boat load.
When you are rebuilding, you don't keep assets.
I repeat, I love JVR and if he stays a Leaf forever I will be happy.

The NHL does get softer each year.
