Paul Joyce who is very reliable for LFC is saying Gotze is ready to move to LFC in the summer.

Hold on, getting ready to be disappointed.

I want to get excited but Gotze doesn't help Liverpool's lack of pace problem, and there are only so many people that can play on the field at a time. Great player though

Given Firmino has been best for Liverpool as a striker, it would appear that they could get everyone they want on the field at the same time.

Looks like I'll be mashing the F5 button this summer.

I think a lot depends on the Sturridge situation.

Andy Hunter (Guardian, also reliable) will come out with an article in tomorrow's papers saying the same thing.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Klopp play a 4231 in BVB with 3 #10s? Or am I going crazy?

Unless Klopp is planning on using Firmino as our #1 CF I just don't know how Gotze will work there, though Firmino - Gotze - Coutinho with a healthy Sturridge up front does sound nice in theory in practice it's probably not practical.

I for some reason don't think Klopp rate Sturridge that much at least on him staying fit.

As for Gotze he has showed his worth under Klopp before. I could also see the unthinkable (for most liverpool fans) that Coutinho could leave in the summer if LFC does not qualify for the champion league and Gotze as the replacement.

They played a 4-2-3-1, but they only played with 1 #10. Ilkay was a 10 for Nurnberg, but was moved to the 8 to replace Sahin, when he came to Dortmund.

Gotta figure Gotze returns to Dortmund if they can find some place to send Shinji's salary.

We (Dortmund and LFC) both know this will end up. For months it'll flip flop that Gotze is going to LFC then BVB then back to LFC. LFC will negotiate the price down from 20M to 18M. Spurs will put in a cheeky bid to raise the price only to see Chelsea swoop in at the 11th hour to sign him for 25M.

Willian, Remy, Diego Costa and Pedro?
Can we also include Mkhitaryan or Eriksen?

Götze has a lot of influence in his destination, so it's not just a matter of who offers the highest transfer fee. Only one year left on his (very large) contract, and Bayern would prefer both to get money for him and avoid paying his salary on the off chance that he doesn't work for Ancelotti (which he very well could). The rumor is that Bayern already offered him back to Dortmund last year, but were still asking more than Dortmund were willing to pay. Now the terms of negotiation should be more favorable to Dortmund.

Unlike some other Dortmund players (Gündogan and Hummels) whose affinity for Klopp many other fans overstate to claim that they might end up in Liverpool, Götze might still like Klopp a lot, and is in a worse situation, where playing time is a priority.

Include in what?

To be fair, if he was available, he was going to be chased no matter who the manager was. Liverpool as a club should be in for a player like that. Heck, most of the clubs with any ambition to get better should be in for him.

The difference is, there's actually a chance (though I think it's more like 50/50 or 60/40) he comes here, where in the past, they would have made the call and had Chelsea, Spurs or someone else snipe the deal.

Klopp might not get it over the line, but he's at least making top level talent take the call. That's the key difference.

West Ham apparently closing a deal for Toni Martinez from Valencia for €3 million. Any La Liga followers with insight? He's got a good goal scoring record in the youth leagues seemingly.

Not yet confirmed, but reports say Lewa extends his contract in Munich until 2021.

If Gotze doesn't stay in Munich, he'll go back to BVB or go play for Klopp again.
I think him going to Liverpool is much more likely than going straight back to BVB.

Bayern would certainly prefer to sell to LFC. But with Firmino & Coutinho there's questions about how much they need a 10. And Mario's own desires will play a big factor since he prefers the move to BVB while staying in the country.

That's why I won't be surprised at all with any of the three scenarios playing out.

Klopp has played Coutinho relatively wide and Firmino at striker pretty frequently. I don't think the question is whether there would be room. I think the question is the lack of speed in the midfield

Well Markovic should alter some of the speed issues. Similar with Ibe if he gets his head right. Sturridge too for what it's worth. I also expect they buy a winger.

I'd be surprised if Götze himself preferred to go back to Dortmund, as well. It's not going to be a warm welcome beyond the locker (heck, with a guy that holds grudges like Hummels, I'm not even sure about inside the locker). I'd be surprised if he wouldn't prefer to go abroad. The paycheck won't hurt that motivation, either.

All of those things can be twisted the other way. Comfortable setting vs. hostile fans (a surprising and rising number of fans are amenable to his return). Hummels just said he'd welcome Götze back.

The differences between Liverpool and Dortmund:
Liverpool would probably offer a bigger contract, but Dortmund have dramatically raised their salary structure since Götze left.
Dortmund have Champions League play already.
Dortmund now play football in many ways very similar to the Guardiola Barcelona teams that Götze left Dortmund to play; Klopp now plays a style very similar to the one for which Götze left Dortmund.
He's a better fit for Tuchel IMO than Klopp.

We'll see what happens.

A legit winger is their second biggest need after goalie
