Totally disagree. Look at it like a deadline acquisition.

Depends on David, we don't know his routine and if he feels ready to go after a few months off and without ST. Isn't he known as a slow starter?

Let's wait and see what is going on next year, maybe there is not even a spot for him open?! Hanley is not horrible at 1B, but I like him better at DH without having to worry about the glove and less risk of getting injured.

In a perfect world he goes out a 4 time WS-Champion and doesn't have to worry about another title.

Would I feel differently halfway through next season? Yeah, maybe.

But from David's perspective, or from the perspective of watching David build his legacy, how perfect is it he goes out like this, especially if they win it all?

If they do win it all, he shouldn't think of coming back for a single second IMO

Give that man a literal dump truck load of money to come back next year.
He needs his own vault.

His own vault, with enough money in it to go swimming, Scrooge McDuck-style.

I honestly think Ortiz is done no matter what, his feet are shot. I think he's emptying everything he has in the tank for us, we all gotta make sure we drink it in and appreciate how special he is

Barnes is sooo hit and miss. That's not special for a MR, but you gotta like his stuff. Let's hope Ziegler can get the out.

I'd be disappointed if they allow the O's to come back. A sweep would be great to help putting them out of the WC-running.

I am wondering if ortiz changes his mind some time AFTER the season starts next year. A la roger clemens in George's box.

No.

He'd want Spring Training he still works extremely hard at his craft like he did when he was younger. Wouldn't want to take ABs away from Hanley/a kid on a good team. This isn't an arrogant athlete relying on natural talent who shows up and hits he still works very hard. Hitting a baseball is harder than throwing one. Clemens did that partially to avoid Spring Training but more to have something in his arm come October and did it multiple years he knew what he was doing don't think it was boredom/change of heart.

That said.......

Maybe player-manager. Maybe for us maybe for someone else. Likely after a year off. 221 player managers in MLB history. 59 HOFers among them. 0 DH's in the HOF. Lots of asshats at the BBWAA.

The GREATEST right handed hitter of all time who was treated by **** by some of those tools, Manny Ramirez, attempted a comeback after 3-4 years out of the game to try and push back when he got on the ballot and distance himself from being caught up in the witch hunt very late in his career when during his prime he would have relied on supplements far less than other players. SLIGHT chance Ortiz returns 3-4 years from now to make enshrinement more of a lock. But I think he already made himself a 99.99% lock to get in with this amazing season. Scary how recently some morons were saying he wasn't worthy due to being a DH.

Ortiz will end up managing us one day unless someone else hires him first hes too smart a guy too big of a personality and too good of a person not to get manager offers. If we don't win it all he might be a candidate to replace Farrell or if we win and don't repeat that isn't that likely though I think he starts getting calls once black Monday hits and guys start getting fired. He will have multiple offers to be a hitting coach next year.

Honestly, Ortiz strikes me as a guy who, when he says he is done, he is done with baseball (in terms of on field stuff like managing/instructing/etc.). He will close that chapter of his life completely and he will just go home and chill. Although I could see him doing the odd TV gig once in awhile though.

I expected a prolonged slump from him at some point. Maybe he can heat up again at some point.

Wow, really impressed with this run the Sox are on. Would be feeling really good for the playoffs if they still had early season Wright. Still holding my breath on Price in the postseason.

As much of a "disgrace" as Tebow jerseys flying off the shelves appears, it's just a joke at this point.

No one is buying a Tebow New York Mets jersey who actually "believes" in his ability. The whole things is a sideshow at this point, and stupid as it may be, I could see why some would find it worthwhile to buy a baseball jersey with his name foolishly written on the back over some everyday, normal player.

I saw a photo of him signing autographs at the Mets' complex in Port St. Lucie and it was mostly Gator helmets. It is the South, after all.

The postseason 3 should be Price/Porcello/Rodriguez with Buchholz as the 4

I just thought about Pomeranz in the bullpen come playoff time and that's p nice. It helps with the career high workload and he has been very good in the pen in the past.

Agree here other than the fact that even if hes slated to be the 4th starter I definitely bring Bucholz in for long relief if we get tagged for 4-5 runs in the first 2 innings and roll with Wright for what would have been Clay's start. Sort of hate the thought of a team getting an early lead and then getting a shot at a knuckleballer. I think Clay would do great coming into a game in the 2nd/3rd inning when we are down 4-0 and stabalize us and give the offense a chance to catch up. Wright I think would give up more runs in those situations while he could put it together and dominate for a spot start.

Luckily I think Price and Porcello are at the right point in their career to be leaned on heavily in the playoffs and started on short rest.

Both guys could make big statements for their career with good postseasons.
