Gray is small in stature where as Fernandez is 6-3 244.

I think Fernandez is going to go down as the pitcher of this generation.

Im not usually a "sell the farm for an arm" guy due to the natural volatility of the position as a whole, but Fernandez is IMO the most valuable pitcher in the league ainec. His mechanics don't bother me as much as a guy like Sale's, he owns the mound when he is out there, his stuff is as good as anyone's, he's under control, he's only 23 and an established ace...yeah my offer would be Kopech/Moncada/Travis/high upside low minors guy like Cedrola. Probably wouldn't get him either (unless they are incredibly high on Kopech)

Papi, wow. What the guy is doing in his final season is unheard of. WAR-wise, it is his best season since 2007 (!) and will likely be his 4th best season per WAR ever. But I am glad that he goes out on top of his game and with style....at least on a personal basis, who knows how the team is gonna finish.

I hope he gets elected to the fall, he deserves it IMO. Not only because of stone cold facts, but also for his personality and trademark (and important) moments. Just for example, there is not much in that regard if you think about A-Rod...mostly negative memories.

When the Sox traded him there were complaints that they should not have traded him because he was an innings eater.

He didn't eat up too many innings tonight.

even when he's eating innings, he isn't very effective. some people tried talking him up when cherington traded for him but he's a JAG.

certainly the cubs. if they don't win it this year, i'll start believing in curses

i actually think the sox are better than texas

Texans obviously have a knack for winning close games as their run differential (+21) is quite a bit lower than their win to loss differential (26). Either that or they always win/lose big

I kinda hesitate to even ask cus it could be a disaster, but I wonder if our best lineup would have Betts at 3rd, Benintendi in left and Young in right. Betts obviously used to play 2nd and has an arm strong enough for 3rd. That would get our best hitters up instead of having Hill or Shaw in with Young or Benintendi on the bench. But it could also be too much for Betts.

I think Young is perfect in the platoon role. I don't know if I would want him playing every day....if he plays too much I think his production will drop quite a bit.

The Rangers are an unbelievable 14-3 against the Astros. I've seen a few of the games, and watching the Astros invent new and innovative ways to lose against Texas makes the Bruins playing the Habs almost palatable.

The Rangers are also 12-7 against Seattle so they are taking care of business within their division.

Agreed 100%

Its also too late in the season to be kicking guys around to different positions. I also do not think Chris young would fare too well in right. He's not a good defender like he was a handful of years ago.

Besides Shaw is cranking it this month and probably represents the best glove option over there too. And also Mookie Betts has established himself as an elite RF which is key at Fenway. I'd feel bad about constantly moving him around... I'd just let him be.

Is Big Papi having the best final season in baseball (or even sports) history?

Interesting read, whatever you think of his conclusion. Playing DH and limited first base all his career probably helps, though. Impressive nonetheless.

Have to laugh at him inviting people to add Peyton Manning to the list of candidates, too. Not even Colts fans turned Broncos fans could consider that one of the best final seasons ever, right?
