On Lebowski's rug
So, with four possible picks at the moment.
A 2nd
A 4th
Conditional 5th
Conditional 7th
Not much to get excited about.

Who are some players Futa and company can look at with our 2nd rounder(mid 50's)?

Hope they can grab a couple more picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds while shedding some $$/weight off the books.

The Kings keep their 5th from the Versteeg trade since they didn't advance far, so the deal ended up being Zykov for Versteeg straight up.

As for who the Kings may be looking at, here's some scouting lists if you want to form a basis:

NHL Central Scouting

TSN (their list should be up soon)

ISS

This site has a comprehensive list of all the rankings from various sources:

Here's a site that has links to some mock drafts to give you a general idea of some of the names that could be available in the 2nd round:

Hey, they have us taking Tyler Benson, that's not bad. I'd be thrilled with him or *cough* Cam Dineen.

I bet they'd do dirty, dirty things to trade up for Logan Brown, haha.

Lots of interesting names there though. I'm kinda shocked.

In my highly inaccurate mock draft, I had the Kings trading their 2nd to Toronto for #62 and #92. Leafs have a bajillion picks, so I figured they might be interested in moving up.

Futa seems to work a ton of magic with his OHL picks, so I always expect the Kings to keep tapping that well. Couple interesting names typically ranked in the late 2nd round:

- RW Givani Smith - 23 goals and 146 PIMs for a bad Guelph squad. LH shooting RW
- LW Adam Mascherin - Lacks size but the production is nice (35 goals in 65 games)
- RW Cliff Pu - Getting some more press with London's playoff run. ISS suddenly had him in their top 30 but other scouts still seem to think he's more 2nd/3rd round material. Probably in line to get more ice time when Dvorak/Marner turn pro next year.

I like USNTDP captain Ryan Lindgren as a late 2nd, early 3rd type guy. Just a decent all around defenseman. I dragged my buddy to a USNTDP game against Arizona State and he loved J.D. Greenway, so that'd be really funny if he ended up on the Kings.

Grooming a highly skilled top 3-4 dman would be a nice find in the 2nd round. Pray to the hockey gods that the Kings can find another Shea Weber or Justin Faulk (both were selected in the 2nd round).

Andrew Peeke piques my interest ;), could be another Colton Parayko.

Luke Green is another dman prospect who may be available in the 2nd round, he looks like a right handed Morgan Rielly. Kings would likely have to trade up to nab him though.

I don't know guys, that was a memorable 16 games that Sekera had with the Kings. I mean, it is more than Rick Martin appeared in, and the Kings traded the 1st round pick that turned into Tom Barrasso for 4 games of Rick Martin!

Since the Kings have 2 picks, who around 5-9 do you think Lombardi would target if he had a pick? Defense? Center? Wing?

Maybe flip Clifford or King along with another pick to move up or possibly recieve more draft picks

How does that help the Kings now, while the window is still open to win cups ?

You have to replace those guys with NHL players.

Well what we have now is plenty of prospects who could make the 3-4 line/bottom pair, but few/none top prospects, which we can't get with the picks we have.

that means we should select the more boom or bust type prospects, someone who could become a top player, but the chance of him not even making the NHL is there as well.

Not only because I'm a Dane I'm gonna wish for Mathias From to be drafted by the kings, he's truly a boom or bust prospect, and he's already played some shl hockey and could make the Danish World Champs roster, something that Jannik Hansen and Mikkel Boedker didn't make in their draft year.

For what I've seen Mathias From got great speed and hands and isn't afraid to challenge the defenders one on one, From sees things on the ice that most he's age won't and he has good size for his age, but he needs to work on his game without the puck

I think he could be available in the 4/5 round.

Turns 19 in December, decent numbers and scouting report. #26 for EU skaters by Central Scouting. Sounds like he'd be a great pick in the 4th.

Name for a late round selection that looked interesting
Cameron Askew C Moncton QMJHL
6'4 212
66gm 32g 33a
And a late late late selection, daring the Russian Factor
Vladimir Boblyov
LW/C Victoria WHL
6'2 205
72gm 28g 39a +45

Has Day's stock has fallen enough that he may still be there at our 2nd rounder? If any development system can whip him into shape it'd probably be the Kings.

Bigtime. IIRC he's at the beginning of the 3rd. I can imagine worse reclamation projects and I can imagine the Kings swinging for the fences with their few picks.

I think most of us do expect them to look at some goalies at the draft.

They may also go the unsigned prospect route after the draft, like they did with Martin Jones.

i hope they do both to be honest. not just goalies i think we could use a few more hit or miss types but we always seem to add someone out of the blue which i tip my hat to our scouts

They did attempt to sign one of the top college UFA goalie prospects but sadly he opted to sign with Philly.

Not sure who else is out there but you look at Jones when he was signed and he flew under the radar because he hadn't played much up to that point.
