Valid points of concern.
Many said tavares' skatign would be an issue too, and there is Hodgson whos skating did keep him down. Let's see which route strome will follow.

I'd say Tavares' skating has held him back, though. Tavares was a 2.0ppg at ages 16 and 17. Strome is good but not that good.

I think Strome will be a great NHL player too but I don't think his current wrist shot is going to be effective in the NHL. It takes him waaaaaaay too long to get the shot off. I was saying the same thing even before I had made up my mind on the Marner/Strome debate (I was pro Strome for a decent amount of time before becoming pro Marner last season).

it's true he has a weirdly long load up time on that wrister.

Sounds like Brendan Leipsic has been called up to the Leafs for tonight's game. Big news if true, I'm a big fan of Leipsic and it's nice to see one of our exciting prospects get a look this year.

cool. good for him.

please oh please get rid of all the deadweight and call up more kids.

i just can't watch the current slop.

It's not going to happen. Leipsic wouldn't even have a shot if it wasn't for like 10 injuries right now. The team we are icing right now is essentially the Marlies.

i think you're gonna be dissappointed.

management doesn’t care about the calder cup nearly as much as you do.

I don't care about the Calder Cup all that much, but they aren't going to throw our young guys in the NHL either. Otherwise, they would have already done it. Do you really think Rich Clune was the most deserving call up from the Marlies?

Why wouldn't they? Having all the players winning a championship together, it'd be an invaluable experience going forward. Look at how Tampa was able to graduate their Calder Cup winning farm into a Stanley Cup finals appearance in short order

rich clune was called up to fill a very specific role.

there's gonna be a ton of current leafs out the door in a few weeks. lots of marlies will get looks.

So for anyone who has gotten to watch the games, why is St. John's our kryptonite? Try to digest these numbers (over 8 games vs St. John's):

GA vs rest of league (41 GP) = 2.00
GA vs St John's (8 GP) = 5.13

GF vs rest of league (41 GP) = 4.02
GF vs St John's (8 GP) = 4.13

PTS % vs rest of league (41 GP) = 0.866
PTS % vs St John's (8 GP) = 0.438

PTS Pace vs rest of league (41 GP) = 135
PTS Pace vs St John's (8 GP) = 68

Winning the calder cup is nice and all but hardly invaluable. Hard to argue it'd make any real difference at all, really.

Wow awesome to hear Leipsic has been called up. I might miss a part of the game today. Playing cricket with a few friends but it will be nice seeing Leipsic in the NHL.

I think it's the atmosphere. Fans split pretty close 50/50 makes it exciting hockey, Ice Caps would feed off that.

Excited to see the whole (Marlies) team healthy tonight. Nylander, Kapanen, Brown, Soshy, Lindberg. Let's go!

it's true he has a weirdly long load up time on that wrister.

Kadri-esque in a sense except for the fact that Strome can wire it. His passing game should help give him options as well... Only place I can see this being an issue is with rushes, especially since his skating is supposed to be an issue.

Ottawa is insane to have give up that Lindberg kid. He was the only guy in the OHL that could shut down McDavid and he is pretty sick himself. That kid is just NHL top two lines all the way. Just a total steal. And a second rounder? Unreal. And all contracts expiring next year?

Lou Lammy, with another whammy. Unbelievable. What an all star team management.

I really like Korostolev. I hope Keefe gets him going. I bet he has a cup of coffee at least in the NHL.

Boy is it ever going to be tough to make the Toronto Marlies next year. Adding Lindberg to the Marlies is just sick.

Lindberg was actually a fourth rounder. Hopefully he turns out to be a fraction as good as you make him seem.

They are a heavy forechecking team that traps and has enough speed to back pressure Toronto's young forwards. Alot of the time the Marlies have lost they were flat out mugged with lots of interference and one crappy AHL ref that refused to call it.

Marlies should get used to it because every team in the playoffs will try this.

I think you're going to be disappointed. I think they're going to leave the kids in the minors and fill the roster with plugs for the rest of the year.

This is what I am wondering about. If it was just atmosphere I would question their mental fortitude. I know if I was any other coach, I'd be pulling those game tapes because the numbers versus St. John's compared to the rest of the league are staggering. Let's see how this back to back goes and whether Keefe has done his due diligence.

Reminds me of how Philly was certain death for the Leafs year after year there for a while circa 2000.

Anyone subscribe to AHL live? Is it worth the high price? Been scrambling to watch Marlies games since Hockey Streams bit it..

Marlies PP so bad, 3 PP's and I can only think of a couple times we were set up in the zone with possession.
