To chime on the Loov convo

His game has dropped by a good margin this season. When Harrington is healthy. My defence is this

Brennan
Holl
Campbell
Percy
Valiev
Harrington

Loov should be 7th d man

Nylander is my favourite Leafs prospect, but I'm still confident in saying Marner is not only the better prospect today but will also be better in the NHL.

Marner is game-breaking it's boarder line unfair.

I was waiting for your opinion on this. We're on the same page here. Are those 6 D in order of preference or random? If preference, I think Valiev is top 3. He's been so good in the latter half of the season.

I'm uncertain of that over Nylander. He's a good talent, but Nylander has been absolutely dominate.

Those are in no specific order. Just what the defence should be

I found that Andrew Nielsen's name on there is more surprising than Johnson.

Nielsen looks to be a good pick-up and has seemingly come out of nowhere.

I absolutely love our scouting now. Nielsen looks like an absolute steal right now. Let's just hope he can progress farther and actually make the NHL in a few years. So far so good

It's even better that he's a D-man. We need to really start developing depth at that position. And what I mean is....not depth as in guys like Finn etc..actual legit NHL talent depth. We have Rielly but we need more homegrown talent at that position going forward. Our forward prospects obviously are going to be the most flashy assets but our later picks have to be on kids like Nielsen and hopefully we can develop some good talent in the organization

Nielsen - Rielly
Dermott - Valiev
Percy - Corrado
Harrington - Lindgren

Is my list of prospect-aged dmen with real nhl potential in the system. (I don’t really count 23+yr olds like Marincin, holl, or loov as prospects anymore, or think that they have anything more than marginal #6/7 potential).

That is an impressive group of talent, imo.

Neilsen's skating will have to come a far way before he is a top pairing. Imo I think he can do it it looks like it's technical issues to me and my layman eyes. Barb should whip him into shape Pronto.

Ppl talking smack about Loov? The guy has been super solid for maybe the best AHL team ever. He is playing right now at a higher level than Holzer or Granberg ever did and both those guys are playing in the NHL.

Guy has size, can skate, lugs the puck and plays a relatively mistake-free game. He is also very durable and improving. There is nothing not to like.

Oh look Mikko Rantanen has a similar AHL season to #1 William Nylander. Guess I'd better put him 17th.

The list looks even more out of place than I'd expect it to. At some points, the difference in league production isn't even considered. Going out on all 4 limbs by Mr. Button.

There I'd no doubt Rantenen is bbtr than 17th, he should be top 10 perhaps top 5. He isn't better Han nylander right now. It's buttons list though, he sees marner at 6th which I strongly disagree with as I have 1st. I have Rantanen 5th after Marner,Strome, Nylander, Provorov. People can have different opinions than you. Who cares, Rantanen is doing great and will be hungry to prove his talent when he gets back in the nhl.

Both of you are right. A guy like dvorak shouldn't be that high up even if he's putting up those points but then again Senyshyn shouldn't be in the top-50 either because he isn't putting up those points.

Johnson, Neilsen, or Timashov aren't on the list, sure whatever, but Provorov being so much higher up than Sanheim just screams Button trying to validate hyping up Provorov in the draft compared to the aforementioned Rantanen who Button had last ranked 16th--lowest among notable scouting agencies (Future Considerations 8; Damien Cox 7; McKeens 8; ArtofScouting 8; ISS 9; HockeyProspectus 8; THW 8). Only Pronman (12th) and THN (12th) had him ranked anywhere close to Button.

I mean, it's far to early to make a judgement call on where these guys will be 5, 10 years from now but there's concerns with his rankings in that he's not consistent. So, no Semantics, it's not just production... it's a mix of production inconsistencies, pre-existing biases and I'd wager, too much weight toward WJC performance.

I really think that this has to be the mentality going forward.

But for so long, the Leafs have hardly hit on anyone out of the 1st round and have just given up on prospects.

He's a solid stay at home Dman who can lay the body. He doesn't get much Ozone starts but is trusted to clear the crease.

He would be a great bottom pairing for the leafs eventually and management seems to agree.

Too many giveaways and inconsistent play
