In 14-15, they lost Voynov for nothing, Kopitar had 16 goals, lost Pearson for half the year, a few other veterans sort of faded away, and they still finished tied for 4th in GA and had 95 points. It'll just be tough to bottom out, unless even more stuff goes wrong.
As they say, that's why they play the games. Could be worse, could be better, could be the same. We can guess all day, but only the record and performance will prove anything for sure.
The problem if Brown puts up better numbers this year is that there's no reason for any team to think it would happen again in future years. I think just assume the Kings are stuck with him. If he had 1 year left, you could trade him at 100%, although still adding. 2 years, maybe at 50%, but still adding. He's signed until the end of the 21-22 season. Nobody needs that contract for 5 more years after this one.
They lost 2 guys that could put the puck in the net and are replacing them with Brown and some guy that signed a 1 year 1.6M deal. The offense will be worse. This team doesn't generate a ton of offense anyway. Any drop in production can really be felt. I'm not guessing btw...
Kopitar struggles to carry the offense when he's tied to Brown....
Doughty can't play the whole game... right now you are looking at one of McNabb/Scuderi in the top 4 on defense, without any injuries. Say one of the 3 top 4 defenders gets injured.... that's 2 of McNabb/Scuderi/Gravel in the top 4! This can get ugly quick.
I have a feeling Vegas is going to take Lewis.
If Brown put up 20 next year and could be dumped I'd do it in a second, because he won't do that for the next 5 years after this one.
On moves Lombardi could have made: It would be nice to have grabbed a RHD. Lots moved this Summer. Guess we'll get to see if someone develops. Guess we can just sign Burns next Summer.
