Potentially getting hurt isn't a reason to not sign a player unless they have a chronic injury(usually a knee problem, groin problem, shoulder problem, concussions).

it is a reason to not sign a guy long term when taking age into account (not saying this applies to Pearson).

Risk of injury should definitely be factored into bigger longer term deals.

If that happens, great. Pearson and his agent also know the deal though. They know they have the leverage over the Kings right now. Brown can't score. Gaborik is old. Purcell is Purcell. Why sign now unless you're getting something out of it?

Guaranteed money. Of course they won't sign something ridiculously low but if the Kings offer $4 million a year over 5 years, it'd be pretty hard for Pearson to turn that down.

So what does everyone think the lines will look like on opening night ?

Pearson/Gaborik-Kopitar-Gaborik/Purcell
Purcell/Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
King-Lewis-Brown
Clifford/Andy-Dowd-Latta

Mcnabb-Doughty
Muzzin-Martinez
Forbort-Trotman

Quick
Zatkoff

But we have Nick Shore and Michael Latta-who played less than Mike Richards. And now Trevor Lewis has a movie made about him starring Usher and Robert DeNiro coming out soon.

Had that same reaction. "Hands of Stone" the Trevor Lewis story.

I don't think his injury stalled his development , I think Sutter and DL did . Lucic took the time, space and minutes that Pearson would have had , if the trade never happened.
Most young top 6 forwards need time, and minutes to develop, steady and regular, not being bounced around. He's a good player, he's smart, fast and hustles.
Put him and keep him in the top 6 where he belongs, give him PP time and you'll see the points as he blossoms.

Lucic didn't take Pearson's ice time. Pearson still looked like he was recovering early last year, and it didn't matter who was on the team, Sutter wasn't going to give Pearson top 6 time without him earning it.

Brown played a lot of time in the top 6 last year, Pearson could have been given that time.

Pearson/Gaborik-Kopitar-Gaborik/Purcell
Purcell/Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
King-Lewis-Brown
Clifford/Andy-Dowd-Latta

Mcnabb-Doughty
Muzzin-Martinez
Forbort-Trotman

No Greene, Brown not in top 6... I'll give it a shot
Brown/Kopitar/Gaborik
King/Carter/Toffoli
Pearson/Lewis/Purcell
Andy/Dowd/Andy

McNabb/Doughty
Muzzin/Gilbert
Martinez/Greene

10 games in Greene is out with an injury and Gilbert gets a bus ticket to Ontario.

Gaborik/Kopitar/Purcell
Pearson/Carter/Toffoli
King/Shore/Brown
Clifford/Andy/Lewis

McNabb/Doughty
Muzzin/A-Mart
Forbort/Greene

Nolan/Gilbert extras.

Sure, but that's a bump of $2.6m on the cap, with Brown and Gaborik still here. Maybe the Kings can't even offer Pearson(or Toffoli) such a contract before the season is over, and they have a better idea of what they're going to do to fit him and Toffoli in. If Mersch or Kempe show more during the season, maybe they trade Pearson for cheap prospects/picks.

59 shots on goal in 113 career NHL games, that stat alone gives me no hope.

Colin Fraser didn't play in the playoffs on Chicago's 09-10 stacked team, had 3 goals and 5 points for a bad Oilers team in 10-11, and nobody had any real hope for him doing anything when the Kings got him, and he wasn't even their first choice. He ended up scoring a goal in the Final.

With what we as sports fans see happen every year on various teams in various leagues, I never quite get the no hope thing. Is it likely that Latta does anything all that impressive? No, but to have no hope? King had 4 goals in 5 games against the Coyotes in the 3rd round.

I totally forgot about Scuderi... Is there any way he isn't on the top pair to start the year?

Me thinks he'll be a Jeff Schultz type in Onterio. Good leader for the young guys but can come up if there are injuries on the blue line.

I agree with damacles lineup, Sutter will play it safe to start the year. As much as I'd love to see Gravel playing every game this season, I just don't see Sutter giving him the ice time, not for the first 10~ games at least

Lets not forget about Mersch. I think there's a really good chance he makes the team which may force a trade as we have too many bottom 6 forwards.

I could see top 4

McNabb - Doughty
Martinez - Muzzin

Than have bottom pairing being 2 of Forbort/Gravel/Gilbert
I could also see McNabb and/or Martinez being shuffled with the 3rd pair to provide a more experienced presence so that Forbort and Gravel are not together.

Those are the 7 D I hop are with the kings though.

hopefully it will force a trade and not expose a decent role player to waivers, but I could see waivers happening. Nolan is a waiver candidate IMO.

Cap hits are going to be the deciding factor. If you can run a 4th line with each guy under a million, Clifford is the odd man out.

Andreoff 587.5k-Latta 600k- Nolan 950k.

Clifford and his 1.6 are replaced easily.

Dowd is going to make a strong case. Shore has been awful IMO in the past 2 seasons.

Kings would have been smart to let Gravel-Forbort be the 3rd pair since they play so well together instead we are flooded with Scuderi, Gilbert, Trotman, etc.

Who knows though, may be the 3rd pair is Gilbert-Greene or Gilbert-Forbort and Greene sits. Gravel doesn't have to clear waivers. Scuderi is toast. Trotman is 50-50 where he ends up.

I feel like Gravel is the best of the bunch but he may be the odd man out because of this

Not being able to beat out the corpse Mike Richards is also a major red flag.

Most Capitals fans ended up pretty disappointed with that coaching decision. Latta was playing well on their fourth line. Richards didn't outplay him for the spot.

I think they were referencing Shore vs Richards in the 2014-15 season...however Latta vs Richards for ice time last year could be a red flag as well.

I like Latta, but he is a combination of 3 players we already have...Andreoff, Clifford, and Nolan. None of those guys had a strong year, except Andreoff's second half....so maybe the Kings plan on dumping one of those guys.

I love Clifford and he is a Lombardi fav, but what's the point when you have Andreoff making half as much and just as effective and can play C. Latta plays C/RW, Nolan plays RW, and Clifford plays LW...so you can kinda see who the odd men out could be...one of Clifford and Nolan because of their salaries. Kings could always roll Andreoff-Dowd-Latta with one extra forward.

I feel like the Kings think Kyle Clifford has some untapped potential to break out (for some inexplicable reason).

They probably look back at his 5 points in 6 games in the 2010 playoffs and his last season in the OHL where he was just about a point per game player and had a very productive playoff that year with the Colts.

I don't know what the hell happened to him after those brief glimpses of promise, but it seems like the blows to the head have hurt him more than anything.
