I agree, man he was baby Gaborik at the WJC.

But from what I saw in Ontario, he's something special at center, too. Baby Kopitar, honestly. With even better skating.

It's really tough to say where he'll ultimately end up due to his inconsistency thus far, he has all the tools to be either kind of player which is very, very scary. But his 200 foot game definitely needs work. But man do I love his spicyness/arrogance out there, and I really hope he just keeps growing and filling out, he's already a big kid that could be a HUGE kid.

I'm not worried over a 19 year old that is inconsistent. He still has a few years to learn before I would be worried. I expect it actually. Not only is he so young he played on the larger ice professionally. So he has that to learn as well.

NHL Network is airing Top Shelf (Breakout players of 2015-2016) and Tyler Toffoli was featured at the start of the program at #40. The show repeats at 9 p.m.

Yeah definitely not worried, just saying I very much doubt he's NHL prepared this year

Man not resigning Lucic was really dumb. First the only way to move Brown was to find a team that needed a "Power Forward" and was desperate. Lucic being on the market didn't help that. Then Lucic going to the Oilers allowed them to move Hall and outbid the Kings, who rumbling would suggest, that they were talking to NJ too.

At least the Kings dodged Brown 2.0 though right?

I'm probably just grumpy.

hi. 2 questions:

1. purcell - kopitar - gaborik line, your expectations?

last year we were thrilled about lucic joining the first line, the common comment was "he'll fit perfectly" (me included). as we saw, he didn't.

2. latta: center or winger or both?

academic subquestion: in modern nhl hockey - with a smaller ice compared to russian or european schools - are the bigger prospects systematically trained to play in both positions, as "universal soldiers", or are they strictly specialized?

1. Modest expectations
2. Winger. I don't see Latta putting Shore or Dowd in the press box. Plus, Andreoff and Lewis can also play center. Could see him moved to center during injuries.

i thought purcell was a right wing not left? I don't see one of dowd and shore making the team (most likely shore) Still needs to have a few moves to happen before we see the final roster imo

I had a question about the Latta signing that I thought would be resolved somewhere but never came up; he was an RFA, no? How did we sign him without any compensation etc going back to washington?

I don't know all the rules but I looked on Twitter and the caps didn't give him a qualifying offer. Wouldn't that make him a UFA?

Missed that. Thank you!

Did it say why? Were they going to try to sign him on the cheap?

The tweet I found linked to this story.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ceive-qualifying-offers-michael-latta-doesnt/

Basically, MacLellan not extending an offer was unexpected as he said he'd give offers to all his RFAs. The article states that Latta had a decreased role on the team last season as they got healthy and with the Mike Richards signing. Sounds like they don't have a spot for him in the lineup.

The Kings don't sign a player, the player signs, he decides. Was never going to happen and Lombardi knew how risky that trade was for the reason Lucic is now and Oiler. -TERM
He wouldn't sign for less than 7 with the team that drafted him for the cit y and fans he'd player for his whole career and adored in Boston because they wouldn't give him more than 5 and (according to NESN who spoke to his agent) was adamant on term, he wanted 7 or 8 yrs.

DL made the trade because he felt Lucic could be beneficial in getting them to the SCF. He knew when that trade went down it was going to be rental.

there was definitely and adjustment period but I thought Lucic fit in pretty damn good overall.

I think Purcell is a RW no? Although Gaborik can play both wings so I think you will see Gaborik on the left side and Prucell on the right. I don't expect Purcell to be on the top line. I could see it, but I could see him playing anywhere in the top 3.
