Why would these stats be fake??? Like, what's the point? The game is played on ice ...

Shaw with his 179 lb is the toughest forward on this team.

Height and weight are not always the best indicator of the type of player.
Pro players exaggerate their states all the time. No one said they're indicators of anything, relax.

If you're a professional hockey player, you should have tree trunks for legs ALWAYS.
Calves are hard to build. Agreed with the hammies and thighs though - they gotta be thiiiick.

Scherbak looks 160 lb on that pic
Height gives a lot of mass.

I have no idea why he's listed at 160 lb , he doesn't look small ...

Plek is listed at 5'11" and 196 lb and Byron at 5'9" and 160 lb but on this pic Byron looks bigger than Plek and almost the same height...

Looking at their feet, you can see that Byron is closer to the camera than Plekanec so that might be why he looks bigger and almost as tall as Plekanec.

It's not like Byron's a couple of meters closer to the camera , they are pretty much at the same distance.

Jesus, Flynn is the same height as Galchenyuk but Chucky has 30lbs on him and is not even in his physical prime yet.

Flynn's a twig.

Flynn could be a good bottom 6 player if he was willing to gain weight (muscles).

He is the Upton Jr of hockey. A guy that is so skinny it's hard to believe he is a professional athlete.

Byron is not 5 inch smaller that Plekanec either. He is officially 2 inch smaller. But that's rounded up. We don't know how the NHL rounds measurement. Plekanec could be 5'10 2/3 and Byron could be 5'9 1/3 so only 1 inch and a third of difference.

Also you can see Plekanec's feet on the picture while you can't even see Byron's ankle. I would say Byron is a good 1 foot close to the camera. Byron is also wearing a cap.

Going by that picture there's no doubt Plekanec is taller than Byron.

I don't know why people are so focused on relating pictures with weight. It's ridiculous.

what if someone has a really, really long neck and a really big head? Does this give an advantage?

I'd like to think so.

Help goalies see over guys trying to screen them and the larger area of their large head would help block more of the net. So yes :D

So in your opinion players come to camp and just say their weight and height and are not actually measured? Seriously...
Do you have any idea how weigh-ins work? Teams and players exaggerate their weight and height all the time.

No , I have no idea how it's accomplished . Maybe they use a scale? Maybe you can enlighten me ...

What exactly is the point in exaggerating? Is there a prize handed out?

Yeah, I heard DD actually stands on his tippy toes in shoes with a 4 inch sole and jumps on the scale when being weighed

You guys seriously have never heard of this phenomenon?? Really??

There isn't a standard or official way to measure size so players and teams like to bump their numbers up sometimes in order to seem bigger than they are. It's that simple. Many of those listed at 6'0" could very like not be 6' at all.

That's true. But since all teams are doing it, it doesn't really effect anything when comparing those numbers. This whole issue is a tempest in a teapot. What matters is how a guy plays. Think Max vs Gallagher...which one plays bigger?

It probably doesn't change anything at the NHL level since players are more scrutinized but I'd be interested to know how height/weight inflation can change the draft stock of a junior player, for example. While strength and some measure of reach are part of a scout's evaluation, precise height and weight are hard/impossible to tell on the spot and NHL teams aren't going to go out and take measurements of a potential 7th rounder in the middle of Russia.
Since NHL teams are (somewhat rightfully) biased towards bigger prospects, it's easy to see the appeal in inflating these numbers. Once a few guys do it, everyone is incentivized to follow suit and since it's not really a big problem, no one really cares.

I'd bet it also affects public perception to some degree.

Remember when Prust was listed as 6'2? Good times.

Pateryn is also listed as 6'2. I met him in public and we were the exact same height, odd when you consider that I'm 6'0.

Yeah ok now... Pateryn is listed at 6'3" !

If you say he's just 6'0" then the only player over 6'0" on this team is Weber... Let's not exaggerate ...

I've also learned that regular people have no idea their actual heights, how many inches shoes can add/subtract, not counting hair in a measurement, not knowing how tall someone is in front of them, etc.

There's also people having absolutely zero clue how weight distribution works for different physiques and body types.

I'm 6'0. Met Pateryn last year and he was my height. He's not 6'3. Not even close.
