It's really amazing how some people see that Dano is better than Armia. Have you forgotten how incredibly bad the line Dano - Burmi - Stafford was? Petan has also a long way to go to reach Armia's overall level.

The Dano-Burmi combination had an incredible possession stat...something like 63% I think.

But I'm high on Armia. It is tough to find that shutdown combination with all the new skill on the team but maybe for the first half of the season it is:

Armia Little Wheeler (take the toughs)
Ehlers Scheifele Stafford/Dano (second pairing matchup)
Connor Perreault Laine (sheltered minutes)

i believe that was only when Perreault played with them, before he got hurt.

Forwards
1) Ehlers / Scheifele / Wheeler
2) Perrault / Little / Stafford
3) Dano / Burmistrov / Armia
4) Lowry / Copp / Thorburn

Defence
1) Enstrom / Myers
2) Trouba / Byfuglien
3) Stuart / Postma

Goal
1) Pavelec
2) Hutchinson

That leaves the Moose with a #1 line of:

1. Connor / Petan / Laine

That'd be scary at an AHL level...

Beating a dead horse, but still wish we would have tried to send Ladd+ to TB for Douin.

Ehlers Scheifele Wheeler
Drouin Little Stafford
Connor Mathews Perreault
Copp Lowry Burmi/Petan

:)

I would be surprised if the Jets didn't try Ladd+ for Drouin, but I highly doubt that the Lightning would have been interested.

When was the last time he was a healthy scratch? Thorburn played all 82 games last year & 81 the year prior. He's actually the franchise leader in games played for this organization.

most likely he'll play games next year but at some point you cant keep guys who will be keys for your future buried on the moose when they should be continuing development against nhl competition. thorbs will be phased out soon. should be next year but it probably won't.

Ehlers - Scheifele - Wheeler
Connor - Little - Stafford
Laine - Perreault - Dano
Lowry/Petan - Burmi/Copp - Armia/Stempniak

Connor and Laine play on their preferred LW. Stafford on his preferred RW where he is not so much of a tire-fire. 3 lines which can put the puck in the net, Laine with good puck possession players to ease the transition to the NHL. Each of the top 3 lines has atleast 1 proven puck posession player, atleast 1 veteran, atleast 1 playmaker and atleast 1 sniper.

JetsFan: that's a pretty good looking line-up, and I like your reasoning. LPD is an interesting line - we know that Perreault and Dano are good on the shot metrics and possession side of things, and you've got Perreault that likes to feed wingers combined with two wingers that love to shoot.

Things are getting crowded in the bottom six.

So what? That was then. This is now. If Stafford is moved Thor could move up to 13 on the depth chart. If not then he is 14. The gap between him and 12 is wide enough that at least 2 Moose players would fit in before he does.

Training camp + Pre-season is going to be very exciting this year. Jets should look good at Pentiction this year as well.

I like that, at least to start the season.

Really don't like Stafford on the 2nd line, but probably unrealistic to think he won't be there.

Lowry is going to play C, I would think.

Absolutely no need for Stempniak, and no way he will want to play 4th line. He'll try to sign with a team with less forward depth so he can at least play top 6-9 minutes. I don't see space for him in the Jets line-up, especially if it means displacing a player like Armia (who wouldn't clear waivers to be sent to the Moose).

With this exception of the fourth line, this would be my guess.

My guess for the fourth line:

Lowry-Copp-Thorburn

Not sure where Burmi will fit in

I really don't think the Jets will abandon the idea of Lowry at C. I think he'll get another shot at it this year.

I agree about Stempniak (and there is no name I'm more tired of reading).
I don't really like Stafford on the second line either, but I dislike him less there than anywhere else in the lineup...if that makes any sense.

Ideally Stafford should be on the 3rd line, I think.

What I'm hoping is that he has a look at the projected line-ups and realizes that he has to really bring it this year to keep his line-up spot. He can be a very useful player when he's on.

I can see Stafford starting on the 2nd, and being bumped down by Laine (who starts on the 3rd) later in the season. Unless of course he plays well enough to hold his spot over Laine. Or injury otherwise keeps that slot available to him.

No doubt, the increased competition for roster spots will bring out the best in our forwards. Although it could add some strife as well, as some players bristle at how far down the forward roster they end up.

Regardless, a good problem to have.

I'm thinking of traditional 3rd-line roles, i.e. checking, defensive zone starts; Stafford is a poor fit there, as we saw at the start of last season (though in fairness, he isn't the only one responsible for that line's suckiness).
He is indeed a very useful player on the cycle in the o-zone, which is, I think, why playing on Little's wing seems to bring out the best in him.
I guess I'm saying that while he might (probably) not be the best player for 2RW, that is the spot where he's likely to do the most damage for us, and the least damage to us.
Side note: hey, finally got to 100 posts!
