I just missed the cutoff for the other thread, and I hope we get this to the second page quickly as I can't stand that Europe song. ;)

What happened to the LA Kings aside from Quick getting hurt?

They're all but eliminated. How is their farm system compared to Boston?

At least they got two Cups from their window.

Quick going down and losing Voynov certainly didn't help. But their biggest problem has been goal scoring. Budaj actually held the fort good enough for the team to survive, but their offense has been anemic.

Kopitar has had a down year, and re-upping Gaborik after the triumphant 2014 run with an expensive contract ties their hands with the cap. And that's in addition to Dustin Brown's contract, a player whose value was sinking even before this year.

We gripe about the B's being a one line team, and LA is similar with Jeff Carter's line.

It's also likely the Kings' style is not adapted to the current style. I remember looking at their roster last year and there wasn't a single player under 6 ft. Now most teams are getting prime production from guys on the smaller side, who are speedy and crafty, and not really intimidated as the predatory hits are being eliminated from the game.

I also don't underestimate the loss of a 'glue' guy like Justin Williams, and even though he was old, Willie Mitchell.

I guess when you think about it, their situation is fairly similar to the Bruins'.

Good news and bad news concerning the Toronto/Florida game.

The good news: Curtis McElhinney is starting for Toronto.

The bad news: Reto Berra is starting for Florida.

With Andersen injured, it is not beyond the realm of possibility the Bruins reclaim third in the Atlantic.

I'll come to you
The league announced Friday a two-game series between Colorado and Ottawa will be played in November in Stockholm, Sweden. The focus will be on Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson and Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog. The fanfare around the two games seems to make it less likely the Avs deal Landeskog this summer, and thus even more likely Matt Duchene finds a new address.

Well, there goes my dream of getting Ladeskog in the off-season. All my money is on Bjork now ... and maybe T.J. Oshie on the UFA wish list

Not sure McElhinney playing is a good thing. Dude seems incapable of having a mediocre to good game (hasn't had a game with SVS% between .890 and .930 all year), ao he either sucks or is completely dominant. Think we all know whuch one it will be.

Peter Chiarelli appreciation thread

Thanks
Let's give credit where credit is due - he's done a great job in Edmonton. He's built a team that would be an easy sell in Boston, only in Edmonton.

Despite losing the Seguin trade, he wasn't gun-shy about dealing Hall. He got ripped by fans for the return, which I imagine he knew before pulling the trigger, and did it anyway. But this time he traded for need, swapping a forward for a defenseman.

Only this time it paid off. It's as if he learned lessons from his miscues in Boston and it's benefiting his new team.

Sure having McDavid fall in his lap is a major key, but he rebuilt their defense, which had been terrible, and brought in some muscle that has also contributed on the score sheet.

His firing seemed as much punitive as anything else.

Chia *KNEW* his time in Boston was short after Neely got more power. He sold his house in Cambridge long before he was fired because he knew he could not coexist with Cam.

Lucic and Sekera contracts are going to bite him.

Agreed. He is a man of action and will get deals done in order to try to make a team better, but he also likes to give out term and dollars like he's Santa.

Yes he can build something but needs to learn how to sustain it.

Is this sour grapes from Chelios claiming free agents did not want to sign in Detroit while Babcock was there? Should there be something to it, may be a potential problem for the Leafs.

“I'm telling you: No veteran free agent is going to want to come in and play for Mike Babcock."

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...eteran-detroit-red-wings-toronto-maple-leafs/

“It’s very accurate. Ryan Suter [who chose Minnesota over Detroit as a UFA in 2012] is a good friend of mine. It’s nothing personal, but he’s a tough guy to play for if you’re a veteran. If you’re a young guy, I think it’s great because of the accountability. If you don’t play [properly], you’re not going to play,†Chelios said.

“I wanted to [re-sign] because I wanted to stay in Detroit, but no matter what I did — I tried so hard to win his heart over and I just couldn’t," Chelios, now 55, said. "It took all those years to find a coach that — I wouldn't say not like me, but just didn't want me in the lineup."

Cliff notes: Chris Chelios is POS who believed he was entitled to ice time and couldn't grasp the reality that he wasn't playing because he was bad.
