Washington had their chance when crosby went down in game 3. they lost game 4. they weren't beating pens 3 straight. they had the pens without their best d man, without their starting goalie and a crosby who looked like he didn't even know where he was half the time obviously hurt and they still lost.

Better overall career is a stretch, but there's no question as to who the better playoff performer is IMO.

Its close, but I'll take Malkin. More clutch, better at his best, more talent. Crosby is more consistent, works harder on the ice, more of a face of the game. I understand why he's the face of the game, but I think his teammate has had a better career so far than him.

nah i can make my own decisions of watching almost every single hockey playoff game for the last 30 plus years. It is definitely one of the hardest if not the hardest.

Why is it harder than winning the World Series, NBA Title, Superbowl, or Champions League?

"Hardest trophy to win" is not an actual thing. It is an NHL marketing slogan. That's not my opinion; that's literally what it is.

The Penguins have five Stanley Cups in 27 years.

Culture matters.

And how many top picks did they have and how many generational talents did they draft with those top picks?

Rangers haven't been in a position to draft a generational player in my entire lifetime.

Forget "lucking" their way to the Stanley Cup, they did it two years in a row according to Corsica.com:sarcasm:

maybe its my bias because my favorite sports team by far is the Rangers and they might not win another in my lifetime while all the other teams i root for (Broncos, Yankees and Juventus) have won many times. And i'm in my 30's and i can say in frankness that the Rangers would be the team that most likely will not win another championship.

But that's our oen fault more than anything. We didn't need to pay Holik $9m a year instead of gping with a lesser centre and finishing lower in the standings. We didnt need to trade a 1st rounder for Bure. We didnt need to continually try to scrape into the playoffs instead og actually trying to rebuild.
There's no guarantee that a rebuild would have worked or thay we'd get elite talent, but we never took the chance to find out...

For the record, I didn't have as much issue with Crosby winning the Smythe this year. He had 1 less point than Malkin in 1 fewer game. He plays a much better 2-way game.

Last year, Kessel got robbed hard. Sorta feel he deserved it for being vilified when leaving Boston and forced to become a franchise player for a sad TML team.

Totally true man. Its obvious without those top picks they don't win any of their cups.

It's because this organization is way too arrogant for it's own good. And obsessed with making a big splash for the shiny new toy. Because everyone want's to play for the world class organization New York Rangers.

We're about to be stuck in mediocrity, if we are not there already.

The other 3 teams you listed are among the most successful in their respective leagues for the past 30 years. So naturally, of course it may seem like the NHL is harder to win.

It already happened this year. And it would've been even tighter had the Panthers and Lightning not been decimated by injuries all season long and the Islanders fired Capuano a week earlier.

Yeah so it didn't happen...

Again, I hear this every year. Every year, a handful of teams (or more) fail to live up to the expectations people on this board set up for them.

Four cups in 90 years and only one since World War II. I'd say we're pretty ****ing mediocre already.

Agree completely

We had our chance in 2014. We also had a chance in 2015 and couldn't score at home in Games 5 and 7.

You can get to the ECF. You can possibly get to the Stanley Cup Final. But to win the Cup you need elite players playing at an elite level. It's unfortunate but the Penguins best players play at over a PPG pace over the playoffs and they get bounces because their role players step up at the right time. Similar, obviously, to Chicago in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

The Rangers need elite players, and until they have elite players they will be watching teams like that win Cups.

Last year, the Penguins were the best team at every analytic on corsica, which we've been over, but you refuse to acknowledge it.

Nobody is saying they lucked their way to consecutive Cups.

2012 possibly as well if Gaborik didn't have a torn rotator cuff.

The Stanley Cup winning formula is undeniable now. And I'm not even sure I can say the the Rangers have one piece to the puzzle (Lundqvist) because of the huge rise in goaltending the past few years. Nearly every team has a goalie that is capable of backing their team to a Stanley Cup assuming the other pieces are in place.

But in today's NHL if you can't get good goaltending then you are inept.
