Anyone have an updated prediction for the USA, Finland, and Sweden?

I'll try Canada:

DalColle-Strome-Virtanen
Crouse-Fabbri-Marner
Perlini-McCann-Konecny
Chartier-Point-Barzal
Merkley

Sanheim-Juulsen
Fleury-Roy
Chychrun-Hicketts
Carrier

McDonald
Blackwood

Dal Colle-Fabbri-Marner
Virtanen-Strome-Barzal
Crouse-McCann-Point
Perlini-Bleackley-Hawryluk
Konecny/Merkley

Sanheim-Juulsen
Fleury-Wood
Chychrun-Roy
Meloche

Blackwood
McDonald

Robby Fabbri - Dylan Strome - Brayden Point
Michael Dal Colle - Mitchell Marner - Brendan Perlini
Lawson Crouse - Nick Merkley - Rourke Chartier
Dylan Sadowy - Jared McCann - Connor Bleackley
Matt Barzal/Jake Virtanen

(ideally I'd have Virtanen off but Team Canada rarely says no to a returning player, once we got past the preliminary round he was a detriment and not a fan of his in the WHL)

Travis Sanheim - Jeremy Roy
Haydn Fleury - Joe Hicketts
Jakob Chychrun - Noah Juulsen
Travis Dermott

Mason McDonald
MacKenzie Blackwood

Robby Fabbri - Dylan Strome - Brayden Point (Scoring line #1)
Michael Dal Colle - Mitchell Marner - Brendan Perlini (Scoring line #2)
Lawson Crouse - Nick Merkley - Rourke Chartier (Gritty utility line)
Dylan Sadowy - Jared McCann - Connor Bleackley (Energy line that can score)
Matt Barzal/Jake Virtanen

(ideally I'd have Virtanen off but Team Canada rarely says no to a returning player, once we got past the preliminary round he was bad and not a fan of his play in the WHL)

Travis Sanheim - Jeremy Roy
Haydn Fleury - Joe Hicketts
Jakob Chychrun - Noah Juulsen
Travis Dermott

Mason McDonald
MacKenzie Blackwood

Not a big fan of the team, defense is good but worse than usual. I don't like having 3 guys that are about 5"9 (regardless of what they're listed at) in the top 6 but can live with it. I don't think Virtanen/Barzal are good enough to be on a scoring line or optimal choices on a checking/two-way line. Love the bottom 6, and the goalies seem better than usual but that's not a guarantee.

I have no doubt that Travis Dermott makes this team.

He's going to be one of the top defencemen in the CHL.

Although not a returning player, a lot of posters made the same sort of comments regarding Max Domi last summer leading up to the summer camp. and look how that turned out, arguably the tournament's best forward.

Could work out that way but I don't see a good spot for him, unless Fabbri's not released than maybe. Unless either improves hugely Virtanen/Perlini would be the 3rd best player on a MDC-Marner-X or Fabbri-Strome-X line and it seems like Perlini would be better for the role. Ideally someone steps up to take the second line wing spot though.

I don't see why Virtanen would be limited by what you've said. Canada could very easily have a third scoring line that Virtanen could play on. Additionally, Virtanen played on the Canadian checking line last year.

He's passable on the checking line, but we've got better options unless he improves quite a bit.

I would consider something like Crouse-Merkley-Chartier a fairly good scoring line, but it's also gritty and fairly good defensively.

And the 4th line isn't exactly weak with Sadoway having 42 goals last season (on a really weak team), and McCann having 34 in a shortened season. Bleackley maybe, but I'd rather have him on the 4th line in the medal round.

was just wondering; when was the last time a player who went both undrafted and unsigned (basically a player who is not property of an NHL team) made team canada?

Considering Virtanen already held his own at the WJC, it's pretty reasonable to bring him the next year. This isn't like the Olympics where four years later a player might decline due to age or injury. Virtanen is a good player and brings speed, experience and a natural winger. He should be there.

He's struggled due to injury, so this year will indicate whether he'll rebound or not.

Personally, I was disappointed in his last wjc. He seemed to play to be on the highlight reel instead of win. Speed was great, zone entries were sometimes good, solid against the weaker teams, but somewhat reckless, held onto the puck too long, and seemed to force weak shots, higher risk/lower reward plays, he seemed ineffective against better defensive teams, and for a "power forward" he seemed to lose a lot of board battles.

An example I can't seem to find was his breakaway in one of the first few games (I wanna say against Germany but maybe Slovakia) was created because of brutal gap control by the defenseman more than anything he did.

I don't know if there have been any since, but Danny Syvret in 2005 was definitely undrafted and I'm pretty sure unsigned.

That's just silly. Whether he is a first line player or a depth player is debatable, but his size skill and experience = a lock on this team, and probably a big part of it.

Would much rather have game breakers on the team. Virtanen is one of those, in my eyes bleackley is not. If the team is going to be less skilled overall than last year I would prefer to have the bottom lines made up of more boom/bust players than conservative
