I think the skill motto will be very powerful going forward for Canada. Hopefully we'll see less grinders and role players. The WHC gold medal and domination reinforced the idea that puck control and skill throughout all 4 lines and 3 d-pairs is very effective.

I'm hoping for the same. One of the best performances ever by a Canadian WJC team not aided by an NHL lockout, and the best Canadian performance ever at the WC, and both clearly embraced the style you describe.

I'm interested to see how many '97 forwards make the team. Outside of Fabbri and MDC that's where most of the talent is.

There's also Ho-Sang but even leaving aside his history with HC, I think there are too many superior 97s.

Perlini and Point?

Perlini and Point?

With some line juggling and experimentation I can see Point getting some 1st line minutes, but neither of these 2 are the creme de la crème of 1996 born players. Beyond Bennett, Fabbri, Michael Del Colle, Ekblad and maybe perhaps if I'm in a generous mood, Virtanen, there's really not much there with the 96 class, and I share User's opinion that most of the elite talent lies in the 1997 class.

Perlini is very underrated. I watched a few of Niagara's first round playoff games against Ottawa and came away very impressed. Consistently the best player on the ice. He's a terrific skater for a guy his size and physically dominant. He probably belongs in the same tier as Dal Colle. I see him as top-6 player for us this year.

I don't see it in Perlini, I have him on the roster, but a 4th liner and a good one...but don't see him in the same tier as Dal Colle. BUT I'm always happy to be proven wrong. always have more room for elite talent in the fold.

I watched the first 3 games of that series and couldn't disagree more. I didn't find Perlini impressive at all. Maybe I just saw the wrong games in that series?

You Should watch the camp and you would quickly see 96 class is good Fabbri
and Point are ahead of Dal Colle people at camp very impressed with Point. Dal Colle needs to improve Skating for big ice!! Quennville Hawyrluk Watson all look good!
The guy youre high on Barzal also very slow out there.Konecney best 97
I cant see more thatn 5 97 players on roster.

Is this for the games in Calgary? Do you know which teams will face which team? I think I'm going to the game against the Czech so I really hope the first group is the one that plays them.

First group is playing vs Russia unfortunately. I'd assume they'll be alternating games.

Thanks for the analysis. I know how good Fabbri is. And I don't need to watch a weekend summer camp to know that the 1997 class > 1996. I've watched them for years... and FYI I have up to 7 players 1997s in contention for the junior team...and given the way Hockey Canada likes to run things, 5-7 underagers would be a lot...which perhaps confirms the fact that the 1996 cup is not exactly flowing over.

Considering That you feel 95 group was best in years
Then 6 underage Players last year speaks well of 96 group (4 96
Make team )

I just find guys get hyped and when I view them they leave
Me underwhelmed ie. Marner Strome

Both great players in ohl playing on great teams but when
On ice with this group not standing out at all.

Not saying they won't make team. just saying there
Are a lot of under rated guys on the ice ie. Watson Bleakley
Quennville Hawerlyk Perlini Dal Colle Chatiier who will make team
With Virtanen Fabbri Point up Front not sure you want
The rest of your forwards to be 97s and do the math
Not 7 spots left and no 97 d makes team.
Just the way I see it!

I see Crouse. Marner Merkley on the team for 97
Strome can't get around the big ice like DalColle
Last year speed a major issue.

Based on the number of 18 and 19 year old players sticking with their NHL teams and unavailable for the tournament, 5-7 underagers per year should be the norm...however, until last year Hockey Canada hasn't always followed this one simple rule, replace skill with skill. Let's hope the new formula Sochi model continues on well into the future.

And there's no doubt in my mind that the 1995s are the best in a decade. and the 1997s are better on the whole than the 1996s.
