From USAH:

Paul Bittner will not participate in U.S. National Junior Team camp in Boston this week because of injury. #USAWJC

Do you know if they will call in another player? Or Will they simply go with one less candidate on the wing?

In the US thread, you dance around like a leprechaun

What he was saying is these guys aren't just average grinders that won't be able to keep up. They will be able to play their roles well and have the skill to bury the puck in the net when they get chances..which they'll be able to create. There still is skill on our bottom six.

The players who are legitimately top 2 way players are almost always high end scorers in CHL or NCAA hockey. Players who are viewed as “energy playersâ€, “grindersâ€, “defensive players†or even “two way players†at these levels usually play that role because they lack the skill to do more and that lack of skill catches up to them when the level of play goes up.

There are exceptions, but for the most part players that have the ability to step in any role be that offensive or two way have skill sets that allow them to jump off the page offensively. If you have the talent available, and the US did this year, you are far better off taking you most gifted players and identifying the ones with the best defensive games to put against the other teams best.

Kyle Connor doesn't make much sense to me. The rest just seems like a bit of CHL insecurity complaining.

Insecurity ? He leads the CHL in scoring, and led it last year with a supporting cast that really isn't next level. Is that not enough to warrant an invite in a so called 19 year olds tourney ?

Adam Erne getting cut last year also surprising.

Erne got cut for good reason. He was bad the year before and was bad in camp. Wasn't a high compete player and tended to be lazy.

I'd love if they'd give Connor a call now, but they most likely will just go with 1 less candidate. Connor and Bittner wouldn't have been battling for the same spot on the roster anyways.

When you look at those guys though (besides Collins, who may end up getting cut) I don't think they'll be as bad as people are making them out to be. A lot of people started out saying the U.S. D won't be all that great and everyone just kind of hopped on that bandwagon. I think they will hold their own. But yes, not as great as in years past.

Problem is though, if I recall correctly, every year the US has had legit success, their D has been the strongest point of their roster.

Who are we looking at for captain and the As? Just curious.

It's obviously hard for fans to determine, as we're not on the ice and in the locker room, but my guess would be...

C - Matthews
A - Werenski
A - White

It's probably guaranteed that Matthews will have a letter. Werenski being the #1 D could lead to him getting one. White is more of a gut feeling.

Don't see White getting one, he's probably not in the top 6 and isn't a returning player. I'd say Milano, Schmaltz and Carlo have a much better shot. I'd be very surprised if they only give the letters to the 18 year olds.

Forgot about Milano. He's a good bet. I thought about Carlo as well, especially since he's being thrust into a bigger role this year.

Lines at practice today are:

Tkachuk - Matthews - DeBrincat
Milano - White - Dvorak
Bellows - Schmaltz - Boeser
Donato - MacInnis - Bjork
Eansor - Keller - Hitchcock

Pairings:

Werenski - Carlo
Krys - McAvoy
Belpedio - Borgen
Fitzgerald/Fortunato - Collins

Based on what I've read it seems the bottom two lines have looked really good. Donato had a nice setup for Bjork on a goal.

Does Borgen have a shot to make the team?

I was surprised he got an invite in the first place but the talent drops off pretty quickly after their top-4 IMO.
