It seems like the roster is pretty much set which means they have defined roles. A lot of offensive firepower left off the team this year. Not sure what to think of that.

Guys like Marner and Strome being left off the roster in favour of Crouse.

With Marner you have a point; I would have taken him to the December camp. Having watched Strome and Crouse a number of times last year, Crouse's game at that point and what he could contribute was better suited to Team Canada. Don't forget that Canada had Reinhart, McDavid, Fabbri, Paul, Petan, and Point lined up at center...all six were better centers than Strome last year (and putting aside the quality of the respective players as NHL prospects), whereas Crouse is a natural winger.

Michael Dal Colle, the guy taken fifth overall the draft prior, was the big one.

Dal Colle was invited to the December camp, given every opportunity to make the team, and was very underwhelming at the camp. I believe he was one of the final cuts.

Thanks for this man. Like i said- i am not a close observer like some others, so you got to give USA Hockey benefit of the doubt. However, still scratching my head at Connor's omission.

Tuch and Roslovic is understandable. I get it. Tuch has played decently but not up to expectations and Roslovic is playing well for Miami but he was always a borderline seelction.

The issue with Bracco and Garland is that it is understandable to leave one of them home, but you should've invited at least one of them (prefer Garland).

Connor may be what one poster already said, which is maybe lack of drive/passion. But that is something that can be looked at in camp. At least give him the chance to show he wants it.

Gotcha, I misunderstood the question. Thought it was marquee names that didn't make the final roster.

Bracco and Garland are cut from the same cloth. Very good, exceptional even offensive players but with a ton of question marks concerning two-play, accountability, attitude, etc. They seem to be going with high character guys that play a complete game.

Teams have started to move fully away from a grind line or bottom 6 with two way players that have less elite skill. This is really dumb if that is what USA is going for...the reason why Canada won the world juniors last year was because of their skill all way the way down their lineup.
:nopity:

As Mike Babcock says you can teach a scorer how to block shots but you can't teach a grinder how to score. You are telling me guys like Bracco, Roslovic, Tuch, Garland, and Connor have no character whatesoever??? What a joke

I only commented on Bracco and Garland. I also didn't say they had "no character."

What do you think of Parsons making the camp as a draft eligible goalie? Do you think he has a realistic shot at making the team or is it more of a learning experience?

Overall, if I were American I could say with certainty that I would NOT be happy with this December camp roster.

with you on this one Rabid. Not sure what to think myself.

I will say this though, Bellows and Keller are legit offensive talents. I was hoping one of them get invited to camp (namely Bellows) but seeing both here proves that USA Hockey isn't afraid to go with some kids.

Bellows is one of the best snipers in the draft, and we all know if Keller was a few inches taller he would be going inside the top 5. Both kids are highly skilled forwards who both should be picked before #15 rolls around this year.

I would suggest both name are on this list and both are making this squad. They are well on par if not more skilled than Tuch, Connor, and Roslovic - just lacking 100% NCAA competition to these guys.

I am a bit shocked about Tuch as he seems this years Adam Erne - this will wake the sleeping giant up a bit I would imagine.

I am really shocked about Rolsovic as he has the experience with Matthews and Tkchuk that is hard to build - plus he plays a solid two-way game and can roll with any line.

But no Kyle Connor is an outrage. I simply cannot find any reason to not have this kid on this squad. The only thing I can think of is Bellows will fill that role as Kieffer is clearly a better sniper but sans the vision. Bellows plays with more grit an two-way ability than Connor so that's another edge. I would love to see them both to be honest. Still hard to not see Connor at least at camp. If USA loses, man are they going to get torched for leaving off so many 1st round picks in favor of grinders and kids.

Also they had a chance to get Logan Brown into the fold. Maybe they asked and he said no, or again maybe they simply do not care and are happy with what they got. Looking at some names invited here, not inviting Brown and seeing what he can do is a mistake imo.

Overall I am really shocked here, some in pleasant ways others not so much. Bold moves here and if it pays off they look like geniuses, but if not they will look like fools.

Only good thing for Bracco and Roslovic is they get the chance to come back next year. Tuch and Connor will not get that luxury.

Also no Caleb Jones is maddening. No excuse there whatsoever.

I am Canadian- rooting for Team Canada, but as a big Hockey Fan who was expecting a great American team in this tournament, i am left pretty puzzled at some of the selections. Feel bad for some of the kids who were left off, and deserved to be there from my end. If Team USA does not win the Gold, there will be a lot of second guessing.

They were never the favorite.

Yes you are

There is nothing wrong with this collection of players
Granted the defence is suspect but once they get the puck out - the offence will prove itself
But there are a close pack of four teams at least that are very close behind
This is going to be a very competitive tournament

Yeah, they (the American coaching staff/management group) certainly left themselves open to a lot of second-guessing if things don't swing their way. Sometimes, probably most times actually, its best to take the simplest approach and not over-think things.
