Yeah that fits with my memories of the situation. In any event I hope he ends up playing for USA in the future. Should get another chance since he seems likely to be cut from the Canadian team.

Even if Chychrun gets cut from the U20 team (which he should) he'll most likely play in the U18 tournament in April. I don't see Sarnia going on an extended PO run in March. They look to be 1st rd fodder.

One guy that may excel on the bigger ice surface is a guy I love as a prospect.

Clayton Keller. He is a terrific skater, with speed and elusiveness.

He would be fun to watch with more room to work with. Might be a coming out party for his draft stock which I already have him in the top 10 in my early analysis of picks this upcoming draft.

At this point its probably best to assume Chychrun never plays for the US, if he ever does its a bonus.

What I find funny about the Chychrun situation is the media spin on it. He "feels Canadian" and "identifies with being Canadian" because his parents are Canadian and he spent summers there. OK, this kid grew up on the beach in Florida, he couldn't be more American. I've coached dozens of American kids with Canadian parents and even NHL Canadian fathers, and Ive never heard one of them say they are Canadian, or they feel Canadian.

My take is that the old man was butt hurt his kid couldn't play in the USHL as a 15 year old. He was a fixture at USA camps prior to this. A journeyman NHL defenseman that never donned the maple leaf gets to live vicariously through his kid. Canadian NHL hall of famers stay in the US, and their kids allegiance is to the US. Ryan MacInnis, and the Bourques as a quick example. So you can do want you want, I just find the reasoning funny with Chychrun.

Its as comically as if Walman spun playing for the US as "feeling American" because he attends college there, even though he spent the majority of his life in Toronto, aside from some summer visits to the States. When everyone knows its because it would have been an easier team to make.

Would I take Walman based on a technicality? Yes, but I wouldn't say he's American, or try to justify it any more than its a technicality and he had the option of playing on 2 teams.

When is the camp list being released?

Jones-Dvorak-Piccinich - should be the 4th line.

Are Jones and Piccinich even expected to be invited to camp? I don't see why they would be.

I have seen nothing from Jones this season to indicate he is a U20-ready player.

Nylander was born in Canada. It isn't that big of a deal, and we don't know all of the story behind JC to speculate anything. You're losing 1 guy - You're getting your fair share of Canadian offspring, be greatful!

Picnich couldn't play on 4th line at BU !!!!

I can guarantee you that Jones name isn't or hasn't even been in discussion.

You are just showing that you have no clue about any of the US players.

Dvorak will be there .... Stevie Wonder can see that

The camp starts the 15th so it has to be soon. Makes me wonder if USA Hockey is working a couple of angles (Hanifin?). Max Jones will be a possibility next year. No chance of Piccinich getting an invite. Forward group is much too deep. Could see Logan Brown getting an invite though.

Nylander spent most of his childhood in the states though actually. Lived where his day lived during NHL career. Didn't move back to Sweden until he was like 14.

Yeah, we've both seen each Knights game and Piccinich and Jones are not at WJC level right now - or at least relative to the rest of the US F's.

The reasoning is his own, and it's more valid than your perspective which erases the kids Canadian stock.

The lump of earth you were born on doesn't define you.

I'm expecting the top 6 to look like this...

Milano - Dvorak - Tuch
Tkachuk - Matthews - Roslovic

Connor and White look to be the only locks in the bottom 6. I'd say there's 5 spots up for grabs after that for Schmaltz, Boeser, Bracco, DeBrincat, MacInnis, Bjork, Turgeon, Keller, Jones, etc. to battle for.

As far as defense goes, Werenski - Carlo should be the top pairing. They're going to have to eat a ton of minutes and be heavily relied upon in all situations. I think McAvoy and Krys are all but locks for the team. Same for Belpedio as well. After that there's 2 spots left for Collins, Jones, Dougherty, Fitzgerald, Fortunato, and Jacobs having the best chances of grabbing them. Really hoping Collins is not one of those who makes it.

All that said, my ideal lineup would look something like this...

Milano - Dvorak - Tuch
Tkachuk - Matthews - Roslovic
Connor - White - Bracco
MacInnis - DeBrincat - Boeser
Jones

Werenski - Carlo
Fitzgerald - McAvoy
Krys - Belpedio
Jones

Could be way off, but that's something I would like seeing. D is pretty weak overall. Getting Hanifin would be absolutely huge.

I only said 4th line.:laugh: not like I proclaimed they would be top line guys.
Sure I don't know a heck of a lot about the US- but a player that is #4 behind arguably the best top 3 in Jr. And a high end 1st rounder in the upcoming draft - thought may actually get a look, when you consider all 3 probably know each other well.

Greg Nemeisz made the Canadian team with Taylor Hall. He is currently behind the bench in Oshawa as a retired 25 yr old assistant coach - there has been crazier things to happen, when chemistry is considered.

IMO I'm expecting to see Matthews as the #1 center hands down. Colin White will most likely be the #2 Center. Dvorak will be a top 6 wing or the #3 center if he makes the team.

OR MAYBE... and I know this is crazy, but hear me out... Chychrun is not one of the dozens of kids you've coached and actually feels more Canadian than American, unlike them, or would prefer to play for Canada as a homage to his parents, or sees himself as belonging to both nationalities but wants to play for Canada for whatever reason, or has some other thoughts about his national identity we're not privy to? Because people are different and sweeping generalizations about how they perceive their place in the world are silly?

I'm not even Canadian and this post strikes me as ridiculously arrogant. "Every child with Canadian parents who lives in the US is actually American... All Canadian hockey players come to live in the US and their children become American... There must be something fishy here..." Yeah, right.

Your theory about his motivation is also ridiculously flimsy. When choosing between two potential national teams, people don't tend to go with the more competitive one for opportunistic reasons. "His dad was mad" is not a convincing argument against Chychrun's own stated reasons for declaring for Canada, which we have no sane reason to disbelieve.

If anything about this situation smells of sour grapes, it's comments like yours, to be honest. Again, this is coming from someone who's not even from Canada.

People on both sides need to just let it go, with both Chychrun and Walman.
