I don't see Piccinich making the team. In the NCAA at BU last year he was a complete non-factor. He goes to a powerhouse London team, and tears it up. With the way Walman is playing this year, he's a lock on defense. Carlo, Werenski, and Walman are locks on defense, the other spots are up for grabs. For better or worse, I think Collins pretty much has one of them locked down.

So he didn't do well in a league of overagers but has done well against players his own age?

Will be very interested to see if DeBrincat makes the team. USA is deep up front, even with the loss of Eichel and Larkin.

Does Caleb Jones have any chance making this team? He's got 16 points in 19 games for the winterhawks surprised he hasn't been mentioned

I included Piccinich because he already sees a lot of minutes with Dvorak and Tkachuk. Just having the chemistry of those 3 alone on the power play would help the USA. He's having a great season, on an offensively stacked team. Who cares what he did at BU, he's playing extremely well with 2 locks for the team.

Leafs fan here who has watched quite a few Knights games this year (obviously). I think it would be a mistake for you guys to take Piccinich... he is very often invisible out there. His points totals (which aren't even that impressive for a 19 year old in that league to begin with) don't reflect his play at all, IMO.

You guys have a pretty solid forward group I don't think he's better than anyone in most of the rosters posted so far.

edit: If anything, Bracco is the player who you can make a decent argument for, he would be a better PP option who actually has the ability to create offence on his own.

I really like him as a player from what I've seen, though I'm not really familiar with who-all he's competing for a roster spot. I certainly think he deserves a look.

the more I watch Kieffer Bellows, the more I come away absolutely impressed. This kid along with Keller is destroying the USNDP. He has the size an skillset to be a force already...he is a name to keep an eye on as he has earned at least an invite to camp (though Connor didn't get it last year). At this point in the draft, he has to be top 10-15 right now, just a fan of this kid flying so under the radar. Excellent two way player with a lethal shot, one of my favs for this draft and a name to keep an eye on for the WJC.

a few names to consider for the defense.

I like both of the Portland Winterhawks additions this year in Jack Dougherty and Caleb Jones. Both are playing extremely well for the Winterhawks and both have legit shots at this team. Solid puck movers who can play well in their own zone. I know Jack didn't look great at the summer eval camp, but his season right now has put him back on the map. And Jones has really stepped up and is looking like a potential top 4 dman one day down the road.

Joshua Jacobs from the Sarnia Sting is another name to keep an eye on. He is having a great year after a decent freshman campaign at Michigan State. Like Dougherty more was expected from Josh at camp, but a few months into this season he is right in the mix with Dougherty and Jones for a shot at this team. Solid all around player with nice vision and wheels he would fit in nicely as a bottom pairing dman.

The Niagra dmen trio are all on the map - Aaron Haydon, Ryan Mantha, and Blake Siebenaler. I thought Siebenaler would have a serious shot at this team, but he really hasn't been as dynamic as he was the past few years. Haydon is a hulk out there that if team USA wants some serious muscle and a shutdown player like Brian Lashoff was a few years ago, here is the guy. Mantha has been a real positive surprise as his offensive game has come around and at 6'5 225, he is a monster out there. Not saying any of these guys make it, but all worthy to keep an eye on.

I would say the top 4 locks for this defense are - Werenski, Carlo, McAvoy, and Walman. That is a solid group there and will be relied heavily in all situations. Depending on if they go with Collins or not, the next name for me is Krys as he is just too dynamic to leave off this group. His puck moving skills will be needed on this group.

My top 7 would be - Werenski, Carlo, McAvoy, Walman, Krys, Dougherty, and Jones..

I like both the Portland kids over Fortunado and Collins, but I am sure Collins will be there so I say one of Dougherty/Jones makes this squad.

Overall nothing great but a solid group here. Werenski and Carlo will be horses out there. Walman has looked great and McAvoy has looked anything but a freshman and is looking like a top 20 pick...this group could really surprise if they gell quickly as they can be very mobile and active out there. Excited to see who they pick when it is said and done.

Good list AD. I totally agree with your group of seven D.

I'll be very sad if they bring Collins, which I bet they will. He's awful.

What are Boeser's chance of making it. and where do you see him fitting in the lineup?

Is Conor Garland on the outside because of his size, and rumours of his shift lengths? I ask this because people bring up Bracco as a candidate for the team, which is fine, but Garland had 129pts last year, and has something like 45pts in 20gms this year, so it is real hard to argue against his production. Will he at least get a look at in the camp?

Maybe, but he won't make the team. Points mean nothing.

Belpedio is a sure thing on defense imo. With Hanifin's likely absence, Walman's strong start is quite important.

Larkin's near certain absence opens up a top nine center spot. White was my ideal third center but his strong start opens the door for a top six spot. I'd imagine that leaves a spot for one of Dvorak or Schmaltz. I like the latter's talent more but it's an even race when all things are considered.

Considering the players that will be missing, I think the team will be an underdog against Canada and Sweden. I've got my fingers crossed that the team won't draw Russia in the quarters as that's a tough match up.

Top notch offense but the defense and goaltending have questions marks. I'd like to see them go off the map a bit with selections rather than play it safe. We'll see. I anticipate a stronger than normal CHL presence though. Too many talented American kids having great seasons to ignore.
