He should have told his american plastic club to go **** themselves. Unless they place him directly in the NHL they can pull out ****. This is all on him.

Well, he wasn't cleared to play by the Swedish doctor either so telling his Canadian team to go **** themselves would be an odd move.

I would have been much more angry if there was a player that really just was playing AHL level hockey. But as a Core invenstment in Toronoto that was the only right ting to do here! Nylander was on is way up to the NHL. **** i wonder how big his insurance fee for this tourney was? Something that is all on Sweden to pay up!

He can go back to his new plastic fakecountry and his plastic hockeyclub and stay there tbh. Can't really say im suprised though given his personality. And injecting him in the lineup this late in the tournament could have had an adverse effect anyways. Atleast now the team can look forward toward actually winning games rather then worrying about this sideshow.
what!? Maple Leafs suck but they need some talent and non north american infuences. Maple leafs eill rely on Nylander. I think they begged swedes not playing him

Well that escalated quickly

Well, officially Toronto are topping my list of ice hockey teams I despise and that ****a Lamoriello.
Basically they said to Sweden:
''Go to hell, Nylander has a chance to play, but we don't care. We don't give a **** that you are trying to become U20 world champions, he will play for our farm team in three days and you could only watch.'':shakehead
And what is team Sweden reaction? Cancelling press conference and acting like halfwitted
FFS, you are not Lamoriello's employees, open your mouth and tell fans the truth.

You don't want to mess up a good relationship with an NHL club.

You are exactly right. Spineless *****.

What you and all the other "Canada stops swedish players OMG!!!!"-crew fail to realize is that Nylander has signed a contract with the Maple Leafs and is their property. They do what they think is right for them long-term, and the swedish medical team seems to agree with them. This is not a scandal, this is what everyone shouldve expected. Team Sweden shouldve foreseen this and called in Kovacs

There were no spots left. William was already registered.

HE IS NOT their property. Nylander is not land or car to be owned by someone. He is Swede and he has the right to represent his country when they ask him to do that. Toronto are his employer, but they don't own him, he is not a slave.
That's just a franchise owned by a rich man, making money for him.
On the other side he plays and represents Sweden because that's his country and it's a matter of honour and pride, not money.
And I still don't understand the silence of the Swedish ice hockey federation. They act like scared little rats, afraid not to exasparate their master.

Is Sweden<Toronto?

No one fails to realize that he is bound by contract to the leafs. I think you summarized what got people upset pretty well when you used the word property when refering to a person, that's exactly the feeling I get when it comes to the leafs. They just called back teenager right before a semi-final against a team every swede dreams of playing competative growing up, with his brother on the team none the less. I really like all the lines we're rolling and I don't think we need him, but it still bothers me.

He is a team Sweden player too. If the swedish staff came to the conclusion he was ready to play, he should have played. Sure let the Leafs give their opinion but in the end it should be Swedens decision. He is a Swedish player for his entire career so sweden would also benefit from him not having any future problems. So they wouldn't just rush him in to play.

If the decision was made just to be extra precaution from the Leafs because it's "only Sweden or WJCs" it would really piss me of.

These blindside, brutal tackles brings nothing to the game. Only creates frustration. Some low level ****** from Switzerland removes someone, who very likely could've been the very best player in this tournament, in the first game. Gotta say I'm pretty pissed.

Stop this silly finger pointing at the Leafs. He has signed a contract with them and will get a lot of money from them and with that comes some responsibilities. That is the life of a pro athlete. A head injury is serious stuff that must be taken seriously. It's not like he returned to Toronto for a promotional event.

What the heck is going on in here? Going to be hilarious when he DOESNT play for the Marlies to due concussion symptoms. There is zero proof that the Leafs just said he can't play despite being fine. If he was fine he'd be playing, plain and simple.

I feel like something got lost in translation in here or something. There have been no reports that Nylander is playing for the Marlies in 3 days.

Yeah worth to mention is that my post is if the Swedish staff thought he was ready

In sports everyone say exactly what they feel and what they intend, all the time. This is a big issue and everybody is dead silent which means someone is hiding something. Shouldn't be that hard to figure out what's going on.

Not to mention the reports before the tournament.

Second concussion syndrome is a very serious concern. It is a shame he is not ready especially for the big games but you still have a great team.

Haha no the 3 days thing was all me and was 50% tongue in cheek. However I think the Swedish staff should just come out and say what is going on. Its been a week and there have been no reports of concussion symptoms, and now he is suddenly flying back to Toronto with no real explanation.
Im not bothered though, we have done great so far without him and I expect us to keep doing so.

We don't know if they were telling the truth or not. We just have to trust that they are. It seems like he were showing concussion symptoms, I mean if he weren't, they would look really foolish if that came out. And the fact that he showed concussion symptoms is enough to remove him from the tournament in my book. I'm no expert, but 1 week is nothing. Maybe it's possible to heal in such a short time, but it doesn't seem very realistic. I had hope that he would play, especially early on, but that hope relied on the case that he were symptom free from day 1, and that they were resting him just to be sure.
That's the thing about this that I find to be strange, that they didn't openly say that it was a concussion from day 1. They could be lying about it, to protect Toronto, but I highly doubt that, because they would both look really bad if it came out.
What I think is the most likely scenario is that the team doctors knew that he wouldn't be able to play, or that it was very unlikely, but that William didn't want to give up, and that they agreed to keep a low key and see how things progressed.

In the end, team sweden doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if they end up losing the finals by one goal. It's not important. I feel bad for William though. I think playing was important for him. He probably wanted to make sure Sweden redeemed themselves after last year, and this was also a very rare opportunity for him to get a gold with his brother, a opportunity that looked very distant until only a few months ago.

Reading between the lines leads me to believe that Nylander is in worse shape than we think :(
I hope they make sure that he is all good.
Also to the Swedes, would you rather him for 1-2 WJC games or for the next cpl Olympics?

I think it was good that william was taken off now at least we have a closure for his case. Hope the kid gets well soon and is in NHL scoring like his old man. :yo::handclap:

Sweden tomorrow against Finland can't wait. :yo:
