People shouldn't be worried Canada has lost to the CIS team before and gone on to play great tournaments. Considering this was their first game together and none of their top players were there I would not worry...

How was Dubois and is the game available on-demand or was it just a live stream?

Hard to say... didn't look like he had much ice time, or at least he wasn't involved in many big plays.

Merkley looked interesting in this game. Had some turnovers, but also pressured the CIS team well and his skating/physical play was pretty good. I'm pretty sure he was the player that rang it off the post, leading to Beauvillier's goal.

I agree. He doesn't have the skills to dominate this tournament. He only had the most points in the tournament by a defenseman the last time he played for Canada.
All of them being assists. I watched all of the Canada games and he was far from dominant, obviously he has grown since then but so has everybody else. It's harder to produce at the U20s than U18s. Points doesn't mean being dominant, just look at Darnell Nurse and Gustav Forsling. Who was more dominant?

Voted top 3 player on a team with 9 first round picks...

And most non-Canadians at the u20s will have played at the u18s as well, so don't see how it's that much harder to produce especially when his team will be a lot better than the one he played on in 2014- coincidentally enough in Finland.

You're just one of those guys that like to ***** just to *****. A couple months you were saying he doesn't play defense and takes too many chances offensively, now suddenly he doesn't take enough chances.

Hopefully Virtanen will show us what a dominant player looks like.

When did I say he takes too many chances offensively? I said he needed to work defensively, he's not a flawless prospect, but I don't blame you because your the biggest homer on the board. Now I'm saying he doesn't take enough chances offensively? Can you read? I'm being honest. You're just making up BS. I want you to tell me where I said that. I said he didn't have the physical skills.

Players, defences, and teams get better as they get older. It's simple. Watch a U17 game and then a U20 game, players won't dominate as easier, and Sanheim didn't dominate the U18s to begin with but he will at the U20s?

What does this have to with Virtanen? I'd also like to know where you get that from. I like to *****, but you can't read so... It's not only you but so many people come into this thread just to talk solely about their teams' prospect which is by far the most annoyingest thing about these threads.

He played good. His breakouts were on point, he was not on the ice for a single goal against and , and he was responsible for the 3rd goal for when he shot it on the pp, and Gauthier might have deflected it. Skating is actually a strength of his, so I'm sure he will be fine when it comes to the bigger surface. He didn't play as offensive as he normally does, I'm sure that will come as he gets settled in.

I hope the canucks loan virtanen. His tools and physical play simply cant be replaced by anybody at camp.

How did John quenville look.?

Hard to say, the players were difficult to differentiate. He did have one big shift on the PK though, got rattled blocking a shot and then stayed in there to make a big clearance off an interception later in the shift.

I know some people are saying the game today vs CIS is on tsn2 but I don't see that listed anywhere on tsn... Is there any actual truth to this??

University hockey interests me. I didn't see the game, but...

How would this CIS team do against:

- Full strength Canadian juniors (not including NHL players) or other WJC teams
- NCAA team (i.e. BU)
- AHL?

I understand that they're older (by 2-3 years), but it still feels strange that a bunch of these guys who I never heard, bar a few, can take on and beat these high profile draft picks and players

I know CIS teams play NCAA teams like BU every year and it's usually about 50-50 win-loss. These guys are all ex-CHL and are significantly older so it's not a huge surprise.

You must be the only person on these boards that has higher expectations for him than I do. I would love to know what he could do to be considered "dominant" in your eyes considering you don't even think he dominates the WHL when he literally skates circles around the competition. And I don't know how you lead WHL defensemen in scoring the past 2 season without good physical skills.

"Players, defences, and teams get better as they get older." But Sanheim stays at the same level I guess. Great Logic again Ray!

Dal Colle can't skate, waste of a spot. It's like he has 50 pounds on his back.

Better used on a player with wings who'll be useful on the big ice.

According to Stephane Leroux from RDS, 4 or 5 players are going to get cut after today's game.
Who are in danger?

I don't like the idea of having players that are actually gonna be on the team (Hicketts, Marner, Strome...) sitting in the press box watching while some guys who won't be on the team are playing in these tough CIS games. You already have a shortened timeline to get these guys playing together, why waste it by having them watch on the sidelines.

They should be in this game.

I think they should go back to having a huge camp and playing against each other in 3 or so games. Also not a fan at all of Montembeault, his sub .900 career save % on a QMJHL team thats had alot of decent-good years speaks for itself.

They still have pre-tournament games.

They should be in this game.

So instead of evaluating players, Team Canada should simply dress everyone on reputation and roll with that line-up?

Interesting decision.
