For those who didnt watch:

Standouts: Konecny, Beauvillier, Sanheim, Gauthier.

Not so much: Dal Colle, Perlini, Chychrun, McDonald.

My hunch was right.

This year's edition will be a borderline relegation team.

Let's hope they can stay in the top pool for the 2017 tournament.

:sarcasm:

Lol

Oh come on

I did see lots of individual selfish play. I guess the players think that the number of goals dictiate them making the team

I think gauthier will make the team

I really thought the defence did not play well

The defense did look mobile

It was hard to tell which players was who

I think dermot got knocked off the puck easily.

Was lauzon playing? I didnt notice him

Jakob chychrun held his own and didnt seem out of place at all

I agree on sanhiem gauthier and disagree on chychrun

As for the rest of the players i couldnt really tell due to the numbers on the back

Thanks

Anyone know the record we have vs the CIS all stars recently ?

I remember they swept the two game series last year and the first game they won like 9-3 or something like that

Although I think this is one of the first times they've faced an actual CIS All-Star team, I believe previously it's been just one university's team or select players from an area. Like last year it was selects from universities in/around Toronto

My Projected Lines:

Crouse-Strome-Marner
Gauthier - Point - Virtanen
Beauvillier - Barzal - Konecny
Perlini - Stephens - Watson
Dal Colle(Has been awful lately)

Sanheim - Hicketts
Fleury - Juulsen
Dermott - McKeown
Chrychrun

Crouse - Strome - Marner
Beaullivier - Point - Virtanen
Watson - Stephens - Konecy
Hawryluk - Barzal - Gauthier
Perlini

Hicketts - Fleury
Sanheim - Dermott
Chabot - Mckeown
Chychrun

Blackwood
Mcdonald

How was Perlini? He was one of the more mercurial guys coming in for me. Dal Colle is Dal Colle, he's always been this way - skilled, great shot, good frame, not terribly fast or intense. Think like a Radim Vrbata type player, which is a good player.

I mostly agree with you. Gauthier played really well and stayed within himself. I thought Konecny and Sanheim were better than alright but not great, they obviously have the tools but I wish they showed more signs of dominating the game and ability to takeover for a short period. Sanheim isn't going to be dominant at this tournament, he's big, takes up a lot of space defensively with his long reach, good shot, good positioning and passing skills, making the right decisions, but he isn't the fastest or the strongest. Physical skills usually dominate this tournament.

I will add Chartier to the standout group, not because he dangled or scored. It's because he was smart forechecking, finished hits, and played well for what should be a 3rd/4th line player. The one thing he had over everybody else is that he didn't make mistakes like trying to deke through a team and failing. Instead, he dumped it in, forechecked and kept in the offensive zone. He's also solid defensively. That's a good 3rd/4th liner for Canada.

Marner, Strome, Crouse, Point are locks. I think Gauthier is adding himself to the group as a RW on the bottom 6. Chartier is earning himself as a lock for the bottom 6. Barzal and Konecny showed off their skill and speed, they'll be more visible in the WJC rather than this game because they played against men old as 25 years old.

Canada coach Lowry: "That's not near the way this team is going to play"; wants faster pace and better defending

^^ I agree with Lowry but it's not because this team isn't good enough or is lacking early. These are 22-25 year old men who are graduated from the league that our junior players play at right now. They know the tricks, they are more than just physically mature. Our team will be better in the pre-tournament games than these CIS games.

Perlini was alright, he's big, can skate, pretty smart player but I don't know if he's going to be a big offensive player. Probably a good bottom 6 LW who can create space for skill players in this tournament if he makes the team. Dermott was really good, smart, fast, a really solid two-way player that could play in the top 4. Didn't like McKeown, wasn't aggressive enough and gave the forwards too much type to play with the puck. Don't think he has much to offer offensively.

About the CIS team -- your are right these guys know the tricks. Some of these guys played with / against the likes of Stamkos, Hall, Seguin, Tavares in the OHL.

But even then, most years a World Junior team less 6-7 locks usually beats the CIS guys

Actually, this year the cis team has a different team format. Last year it was a team made up of ontario universities. This year there were 6 cis players from west, 6 cis from east and 11 from ontario

This was a much better cis team than last years cis team

This is a CIS All star team, not one province where half the team is a walk over. This group can beat any World Junior team at this point in time.

It's nights like this that show how difficult/impressive it is for 18 and 19 year draftees to put up great numbers in the NCAA. The age gap makes a huge difference.

I agree. He doesn't have the skills to dominate this tournament. He only had the most points in the tournament by a defenseman the last time he played for Canada.
