Wait what? Why didn't they double switch EE and Martin to get them into the game? Makes the EE move even more idiotic.

I can understand EE because he hasn't had a day off for most of May and you atleast have Smoak's glove/power combo, but Martin's gotten the 5th day off the last little while. Should be fine to catch 12-13 innings.

Something tells me you made the same prediction when Robertson came in and blew a one-run lead for Chicago. Or had you learned from the previous day when Robertson blew a two-run lead?

Well we can't clone Donaldson 8 times so most often than not an elite closer is going to go 1-2-3 ball game over.

When you go into the 9th trailing you won't win many games. Don't let one or two games fool you.

because Gibbons isn't very bright.

He didn't double switch Martin for Dickey/Thole, because that would have brought the pitcher's spot in the line up to the plate earlier in the last two innings (the final batter of the day as it turned out). By hitting Martin for Dickey and then replacing Martin with the new pitcher he gave himself eight at bats before the pitcher came up again.

On the radio they said he took out EE immediately after he walked because it was supposed to be an off-day for EE.

Was supposed to be an off day for EE, eh? Those poor baseball, being overworked. That's not good reasoning. Say they took him out in favour of a faster runner, and that they wanted to keep Smoak in the game late for his D. Such BS reasoning, "it was supposed to be an off day".

He could have used Valencia when the pitchers spot came up though.

He could have used Valencia when the pitchers spot came up though.

And he probably would have, but he was giving himself as many at bats as possible before the pitcher came up.

He also probably wanted to keep Thole in the game because he is a leftie (Storen is a rightie) and he had a .500 average against Storen in his career (3 for 6).

It's also possible he wanted Martin to have the first game off completely, beyond his sole appearance at the plate.

Don't rip my head off. I wasn't justifying the decision. I was relaying what the announcers were saying on the radio.

And they did take him out for a faster runner. Kawasaki is a better runner than EE.

Why is Edwin not starting either game? He had a day off - yesterday! Okay, leave him out game 1, fine. Leaving him out of game 2 and putting Valencia in against a righty? Inexcusable.

Sounds like Gibby is giving up.

Lets remember that EE has been pretty garbage at the plate himself. Smoak provides better d which will be important in this game and we'll likely see EE come in at some point. No sure how this is gibbons giving up
