Latvia has a very solid defence this year. The average height in the top pairings is about 6'3", they're really well-built and there's a few potential draft prospects among them.

Rubins and Ponomarenko already played in pro leagues (Allsvenskan and the Norwegian league) this season. Zile and Cukste made the U-20 national team being 17 yo and they're among the leading defensemen of the Latvian MHL (the KHL junior league) team.

So we've got some good players that can make plays and can hold out against a team like Canada, but we have 0 depth and the lower-pairing Ds or the 4th line forwards are just not on par with the other guys.

Or in other words, the team will flop and just disintegrate later in the game.

Finally we might have some legit (for our standards) D prospects. :)

Can you guys please make a bigger deal out of me mistyping names of countries that obviously sound nothing alike, please? :scared:

I don't think anyone thought we could pull it off, but it's a disappointment every single time either way

4th goal was disappointing. 3rd and 5th were great plays/tips. 6th is bad play as well :(

Yeah, I don't know why they switched goalies so early.

5 conceded goals in 7 minutes is unusual even for Latvian standards. :)

Seriously, get that goalie out of there. He couldn't control a rebound to save his life and it's obvious he's stuggling at this level.

Mitens was terrible with the U-20 team and now he's conceding a goal every minute here.

Romanovskis at least makes the first save :/

If someone can link a stream for FIN-CZE game later on (starts 20:45 Finnish time today) would be appreciated. Maybe it's televised in Czech?

Congratulations Slovaks, great victory.

Canadians took the first period too personally  no worries, it has been much worse, one or two goals scored could be awesome. But result still will be pretty nasty  Go hockey, go Latvia!!!

How silly (sad) is that Mitens were already selected to play for U20 team in December. Just embarrassing selection.
