Just to remind HFboards what draft picks we have

Ottawa 1st
Ottawa 2nd
Dallas 2nd
Ottawa 4th
Ottawa 5th
Ottawa 7th

Our org is one that needs draft picks badly (economic situation), if we dive I really hope Murray does not try a Hemsky like deal again as a stop gap. Move the spare parts we wont re-sign. Move Condra, move Methot (hope he re-signs), and start grabbing guys on waivers that would serve as a quick stop gap to hope to flip at the deadline

Never liked the Hemsky trade. Or trading a 6th round pick for a 7th last year. I think the worst though was trading a 6th round pick for Matt Kassian when he was on waivers only a few days before.

Svechnikov had a 2G2A performance tonight against Gatineau. It really, really sucks that this team doesn't draft Russians.

(BTW for anyone whose able I recommend watching his game tonight, the amount of skill he has for someone of his size is insane)

Agreed, wish we would be one of those teams that can pick up draft picks. Sickening how bad we can be

we dont need extra draft picks we already have talent coming through aswell as depth.

We are fine with the picks we have. We need high end skill which will probably only come through trades (Ryan/Hemsky/Andy/turris etc) or UFA (Macarthur)

But at 210, he's still bigger and stronger than most kids his age. Sure, he will still grow, but right now he can overpower most kids in his age group, and has for a while.

He's not like a RNH who might have been above average height, but no muscle to speak of.

Yes and no. I'll use Lucic as a comparable.

Lucic was 6'2, 204 when he was drafted. He's now 6'4, 235. Most people expect Crouse to be around the same weight. Lucic has no problems overpowering most players in the NHL.

While not a real offensive talent, Crouse showed lots of skill throughout the tournament: very good skater, good hands, active, good along the wall, and plays a smart, almost flawless game. And he's HUGE. May never crack 40 points in the NHL (Nick Paul, a future NHL 3rd-liner showed much more of a scorer's game), but I'd love to have Crouse in Ottawa because he's so much fun to watch.

You have to keep in mind that Crouse is only 17. If he plays in the World Juniors as a 19 year old, I imagine he will show more offensive prowess.

I don't want to take a Lucic in the top 5 or 10. S

I was using him as a size comparison.

I envision Crouse as a Landeskog/Lucic hybrid.

I wouldn't take Crouse top 5 (unless he has a terrific second half), but you absolutely take him top 10.

Potential 60 pt player, that works hard, finishes every check, and is a natural leader, that's a tap in.

I don't want potential 60 point player. I want potential PPG player. In a draft this deep and Murray's reputation, I expect more than 60 point player.

It all depends where we end up in the standings

If we somehow end up winning the SC we aren't drafting a PPG player

Unrealistic. Off the top of my head, I believe the only players drafted since 2007 to crack 80 pts (or close to) are:

Kane
Hall
Seguin
Benn
Eberle
Stamkos

I may have missed someone, but it's pretty unrealistic, unless you are drafting in the top 3.

Also, Murray technically hasn't drafted a single forward with a 20+ goal season so far (in Ottawa), although that's likely to change this year.

You know how many guys scored at a PPG pace last year? TEN.

You're saying you want a "top ten scoring forward" out of a non-top-5 or 6 draft position? It's possible I guess, sure, but the odds surely aren't in your favor. How many PPG players get drafted in the 8th-12th overall spots? Filip Forsberg is the most recent one (with a VERY small sample size, mind you), then after him it's... Kopitar, in '05? And even then, he's not a PPG guy. Parise went 17th overall in '03, and he's not a PPG guy.

You're setting the bar a little high there, man. Unrealistic expectations. There hasn't been a PPG guy taken in the 8th(ish)-13th(ish) spots in over a decade.

If we get a 60 point forward out of this draft, I'd be very happy, especially considering we'll probably be picking in the 9th-13th overall spot (assuming things continue the way they are).

....or very high draft picks.

He's got great top speed, good acceleration, he's surprisingly agile for a guy his size and he's really strong on his skates. The last point is really noticeable when you watch his board play, which is fantastic.

70 points is the new PPG. I'd be ecstatic if someone like Barzal or Zacha turned out to be a 65-70 point player for us.

People will question Crouse's offensive upside right up until he starts putting up big numbers in the NHL just like other giant, fast skating, skilled wingers.

You look at guys like Blake Wheeler, Milan Lucic, Andrew Ladd, Max Pacioretty, Wayne Simmonds. All of them put up mediocre numbers in their respective junior leagues, but all are putting up top line winger numbers in the NHL. It's easy to see why - their skills translate well to the NHL level.

I'll echo what others have said in this thread. Wouldn't take him top 5, especially given how strong the top of this draft is with McDavid, Eichel, Hanifin, Marner and Strome, but he's clearly worth taking a shot on with a 5-10 overall pick.

Draft a dman or a center. This draft has so much in terms of top end dmen and centers going early. Still want Procorov myself if we pick around ten

Nice to see more & more people getting on the Crouse bandwagon ... I'd take any one of 5, 7,8 or 9, I doubt we get inside 5th place & Strome could drop a spot or two someone does every yr.
