On some of Roy's scouting reports, they consider his skating a strength. So I don't think his skating could be too bad. Svechnikov having zero defensive awareness, I find more alarming.

And how would you describe their skating?

I don't think Roy is a safe pick like some of the other posters. Still, I'm a big fan of Roy's and think he could be a homerun pick. His skating issues are definitely overblown but he still has some things to work on to be an NHL dman.

If you want a safer pick you can go with Zboril. If you want a bigger pick moving dman go with Chabot.

I'm just saying that lots of "average" size dmen can play in the NHL and it doesn't really matter which CHL program they come from.

Someone like Wisniewski could be available... I don't know how highly valued he is in Anaheim with that big $5.5 million cap hit hanging around his neck. Might get him for not much more than a draft pick.

Right hand shot and some decent offensive ability... and while the cap hit is high... it's only for 2 more years.

He wouldn't be my 1st choice for the Oilers... but wouldn't be my last either. :)

He seems like a perfect target to me. I'm surprised he's not talked about more. Obviously things didn't work out in Anaheim and I can see them trying to recoup some of their trade-deadline investment on him, or even just move him to free up cap space to retain Beauchemin.

Of course, I'd want to know *why* things didn't work out in Anaheim (he reportedly didn't want to leave Columbus and tried to use his limited no-trade to block contending teams), but he was still putting up good numbers in Columbus. 2 years left on that deal isn't really daunting though, and though he's viewed as a PP specialist, he was an all-situations guy in Columbus, so he'd fill a big need here.

I'd actually like to see the Oilers get Beauchemin as well... but if they can't get him as a UFA, then Wisniewski would be a decent option as well.

I think I'd like an actual, honest to goodness PP specialist on the blueline... it's somewhat of a dirty statement to be called a "PP specialist"... but Schultz really isn't one... and no one else on the Oilers comes close.

Someone on defense with a decent shot and who can actually put the effort in and get results on the PP is exactly what the team needs and has been missing for years.

Zboril? Roy? Chabot?

There really is something to say about Meloche being underrated. Either way looks like an exceptional year out of the Q for defensman, definitely a rarity. For that I'm a bit skeptical but it's hard to argue with solid scouting reports from those who are paid to analyze the game.

I might just throw something at the TV if we take Samsanov at 16.

I will be jacked if they get him at 16... Top forward and top goalie prospect in the draft?? That is sweet. Dont fool yourselves with all the fancy new players out there - after say Konecny at around 13, there are fewer and fewer sure things. Im not saying Samsonov is a sure thing, but he does address a SEVERE organizational need. Then BPA at 33 and or maybe move up in the 2nd with the 3rds as trade ammo.

Sign Beauchemin and or Franson, and Niemi. Dont give up assets YET for adequate goalie or Dmen. Sometimes it is better to rent. Belesky is also an interesting younger prospect who showed great on the playoff stage.

Any goalie at 16 is a MASSIVE reach. IF Samsanov is still at 33, go for it but don't waste a mid first on a goalie.

I heard him say he is NOT trading first overall. I never heard him say he wouldnt trade the other picks.

I'd be VERY surprised if we didn't deal at least a 2nd and a 3rd from this draft and potentially more picks from next years draft. This is a prime time to be acquiring vets IMO.

I know I read a scouting report where it referenced it, but in this video of Jeremy Roy you can see him on the left side for the majority of the game. I don't get to watch a lot of Q games so I can't argue from first hand experience.

It's in French and the guy who uploaded was nice enough to mark off where he is in yellow.

Hey there, thanks for linking to my video (and thanks for calling me nice) :)

I've actually made several videos of the prospects for this draft year. I'm trying to make one more before the draft, Jacob Larsson. My full video list can be found here if you want to browse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zhc-xIebM98&list=PL5zIiRZ730cdc-SMSe2Uk2MpefooATIPC

I believe I have videos on 43 or 44 prospects.

Regarding Roy, unfortunately, it's not a very good game of his. I try to get games where prospects have a good statistical output. Otherwise, I try to be as objective as possible. Consequently, I didn't want to make a different video on Roy after seeing a generally bad game, because then it would feel like I was trying to be more biased, by trying to "pick a better game for one player."

Also, as an aside, in a couple of my videos, I do lay into Oiler management, but the remarks were made before Chiarelli; I know it's been tough on the Oilers fans and I definitely wasn't making my remarks to criticize you. You guys deserved better, and you got better :)

Anyway, I know a lot of my commentary is pretty brutal. I'm pretty nervous when I talk and with this being the first season I provided commentary, I was trying to find a rhythm for what works. I'd like to think I get better as the season progresses, and my later videos does have some guest commentary which is much better than mine.

I hope you find the videos useful as you debate your favorite picks.

Really useful. Thanks a lot for posting the link.
Lots of people don't watch much junior hockey so vids like the ones you put together are extremely helpful.

Your videos are very useful and I wanted to thank you for your work. I watched a lot of them yesterday when I spent most of the day fine-tuning my top100. It's helpful because it's easier to pick up the small things a player does when you have it all on tape and can go back and forth and not having to worry about when the kid goes on and off the ice because it's all his shifts. Also helped me a lot with kids that I either have not seen at all or some that I've seen very little of, so thank you for that. I do want to add though that I prefer the videos without commentary. That's not a slight on you though, I just find it easier to focus on the game and the player I'm watching if the only sound coming from the video is the game sound itself.

On a completely unrelated note: There looks to be a few potential latvian gems in this draft. Aside from Martins Dzierkals and Rodrigo Abols, a kid named Rudolfs Balcers caught my attention recently. Had a solid year in the norwegian men's league putting up 21 points in 36 games for Stavanger Oilers who went on to win the league. Also had 6 points in 6 games in the U18's. He's a real speedy forward with solid offensive instincts, hockey sense and a great release on his shot. Looks to be going under the radar quite a bit.

And another video which is more on the fun side as the Stavanger Oilers played against Zuccarello All-Stars, a showteam with Kreider, Brassard, Hagelin, Hayes among others. Balcers had a hat-trick, scoring at 7:38, 14:39 and 22:12.

Would be interesting to see this kid come over to North America and play next year. No idea if he has any interest in doing that though.

Svechnikov is my guy at #16 but Roy looked terrific in the U18. That was the first time I really watched him closely. I don't think he was such a bad skater. Just not high end like lots of top defensemen tend to be these days.

I'm glad you enjoy! None offense taken. That makes a lot of sense and is very helpful. I'll try to see if I can incorporate some solution.

If I provided text and just paused the game with some thoughts, do you think that would make it better or worse? Or do you prefer not to have any thoughts shared/presented and just have your own conclusions?
