Team against the cap retaining 2.75m, sounds like a rebuilding team to me.
And yet, they're keeping all their veteran players.

Unless they have something else big planned for the day, this is a weird day for the Bruins.

Something that would today even better would be Chara to the Oilers for 16th OA +.

Chara for anything would be good for Boston.

This might be only the second time in franchise history the Flames don't pick in the first round.

But it's definitely much easier to swallow than the last time it happened.

Officially official.

Means Ramo is dedicated to hitting UFA (old news) but also I think Treliving knows how active the goaltender market is (e.g. Talbot, Lack, possibly even Subban being available) and it may drive down asking prices depending on who he's talking to.

That 53rd overall is as good as gone.

Wish the Flames had more faith in Ortio.

Getting a top pairing dman makes it pretty easy to swollow haha.

Much easier. Jokinen and a first round exit versus a 22 year old top pairing defensemen.

Rumors have the Flames looking to move Hiller, not Ortio. Although who knows what ends up happening.

Trade Wideman to Detriot for their first. Shouldn't be paying your number 5 dman 5.25 million haha bottom pairing of Wideman and Engelland around 9 million sounds disgusting

If we could "offload" Wideman for a 1st I'd be happy, but either way, we don't need too.

Anyway this day shakes out, it's a great day :)

You mistook what I said about Ortio, but I'll re-iterate:

Ortio should be part of Calgary's goaltending platoon next season.
Ramo's obviously walking - knew that since the second-round exit.
Keep Hiller. Bring Ortio up if he's ready.

IMO the only reason they're interested in acquiring another goaltender is because they're not looking to move Hiller at all, but instead they're not sure that Ortio can handle that backup position.

It doesn't make sense why they'd shop Hiller. Losing both your 1A/1B assets in one off-season is kind of weird, especially if they're expecting Ortio to take the backup position.

There's not a lot of veteran starter-quality goaltenders on the market (Subban/Talbot/Lack or whoever are all just as inexperienced) and you'd think that Calgary would want to retain a veteran to properly ease Ortio into a future role as a Flames starter if he has it in him. The only veteran name on the market that I can think of would be Niemi and that seems like a lateral move at best to acquire him and trade Hiller.
