Prospect Info: 2015 NHL Draft - Pick #62 - Robin Kovacs

surprised they didnt just loan him back to Sweden and reevaluate in a year,

but this gives them a contract slot,
maybe for Crawley, if he wont sign a AHL deal for a year.

Florida has been able to pull that off at least twice lately,
last summer ('16) Wittchow, as NCAA coulda-been UFA, signed with his drafting team FP's AHL team, signed ELC this summer
This summer NCAA UFA Blaine Byrin signed w FP's AHL affilate, with a option to match any NHL offer ..

Interesting development, I feel bad for Robin but at the same time I think there were some attitude issues. I really wanted to see him this year if he would play better and what should be a better Hartford team. He came off very cocky for someone who wasn't a top draft pick plus the distraction he created this summer. He probably wasn't very happy being put in group C and sent down right away so there might have been some bad blood with management from the start. Management hopefully learned you can't rush a 19 year old like they did, would've been much better served staying in Sweden a few more years.

He had publicized off-ice issues. Organization weighed that against his play and development and decided it was best to just cut ties. Best of luck kid, but I understand the decision.

There were some reports from HFD over at rfc that hardly surprised me. Only concern was his well being, long past the point where hockey was still in the equation.

Life happened, I got to say that posts like "oh well another overrated prospect" annoys me a great deal. For the short stint I followed this team two players offed themselves.

When on earth did we get this spoiled, all over the boards there are posters that feels entitled to have the prospects turn out well and want vengance when they don't. Kids of today...

People tend to forget that it is a game, a sport that many grew up playing and just take enjoyment in rooting for their home team and watching players play it really well. If someone starts getting more anger, sadness, annoyance, etc. out of watching and following this sport than simple fun and enjoyment (well, really it shouldn't be anywhere close to equal even) then maybe it is time to either readjust how to watch, what you value, or just stop for a bit.

Short story: I agree with you.

Extremely disappointing. Despite a below average first season in the AHL (granted he was also one of the youngest players in the league), he still was a decent prospect that good develop into something. Wonder if they tried to trade him at least? Even a 6th round pick would have been better than nothing.

If Kovacs went up to the Rangers and said "I don't want to play in the USA," then there is no point in trading him.

I'm sure the Rangers looked at everything, but sometimes, there is just nothing you can do.

Really really liked him and thought for sure he'd be an NHL player.

Seemed to just slam into a wall in his development.

According to Pronman, he didn't bother showing up at Hartford training camp, hence why the contract termination.

I would imbed the tweet, but I'm still getting used to the new HF lolol

Not to make light of Kovacs's situation at all but I'm surprised more of these guys don't have huge personal problems, in all sports. It's a ridiculous life.

Don’t think that’s true. He was there at some point cause the Pack twitter posted a picture a couple days ago and you could see Kovacs in the picture

Yeah but you can clearly see from that pic he's on the outside of the circle, which is a strong sign he wants to leave.

What are you a detective?

That picture doesn't mean anything other than the fact that he did report to camp at some point

Yes, I am a PI, clinically trained psychologist and a hockey coach. When I coach tryouts and see a kid on the outside of my coaching circles, it's a sign 100% he doesn't want to be there. I immediately cut that kid. If I have 50 kids trying out and need to have a team of 15, I just do 35 circles and have my team. It's fool proof. As you can see from the pic that Rangers have a trained PI and psychologist on staff. ( not me I am blameless here)

Gotta keep an eye on Chytil. He needs to be in the inner circle now at all practices. And Desjardins needs to be parked way out in the perimeter.

When's the last time a prospect bolted and got released like this? I mean just two years after the draft! I don't think any NHL team touches that unless he leads the SHL in scoring this season. Man, remember the good old days when a prospect's biggest issues were his horse meat diet?

But if a player is thirsty and going for that energy bottle and the picture is taken in a wrong moment.. ))

I`ve one question if he continue to play hockey in Sweden and progress and get skilled enough so another NHL club can decide to
sign a new contract with him in the future? He had promising stats from AIK, but he obviously needed time to adapt to small ice, and he was probably not ready related to fitness.

It`s hard for us to evaluate a young player, but we cut ties with him in age of 20.. Maybe it was his own decision after all. If a player say no and I want to play and stay somewhere else or closer to his family in Sweden. A NHL franchise need to accept that, right?

Anyway a relative high draft pick though - so it`s no guarantee a prospect will be successful in the hardest league in the world, NHL.
NHL DRAFT 2015 round 3 #62 overall by New York Rangers

I think we should let Robin get some rest from this forum - speculate or discuss in personal matters is just wrong.
I want to say one thing - just in case he found his name in google search, and read on this forum. Robin Kovacs has still a good chances to make NHL if he works hard in Sweden and focus on hockey - there are many players who are late to blossom so to speak, and he is only 20 years old.
I wish him good luck.
