Like you said earlier. The Kings didn't focus too much on the smallish top end talent. The bigger bodied guys were preferred in early rounds. No wonder they never panned out.

Again, not really true, or at least can't be proved. Use Kozun as an example. While he wasn't able to see NHL ice time, when he went to Toronto it's not like he lit it up. He was played prominently in the AHL and never really produced big numbers. 56 points was a career high. In toronto, 20 games, four points. In the AHL for Toronto 28 points in 55 games. Did LA hold him back, or is he just a 5'8 forward that couldn't produce enough?

Moller same thing. He was given a chance, played 87 NHL games, 12 goals and 26 points. He's been in Europe now for four years and when do you see his name pop up on the NHL radar anymore? Never. Maybe he's just not a good enough player.

It's not necessarily true they didn't pan out because of anything the Kings did, rather it could simply be the fact they just wouldn't have panned out anywhere. There's a reason why few smaller guys make the NHL to begin with.

The kings didn't miss out on any small skilled forward.

They are so rare to make it in the NHL, for a reason.

The only top end small skilled forward that I saw looking at past drafts that we potentially could've drafted was Jaden Schwartz. He was the pick before Derek Forbort, but he wasn't somebody that we passed up on.

I like guys like Rantanen and Meier a lot and would be happy to pick them up. But I hope the Kings go with someone who has a chance to be a key top 6 center or key top 4 defenseman this year, in order to help sustain the long-term window of the franchise. I see Rantanen and Meier as high-end complimentary players in the vein of James Van Riemsdyk and Dustin Brown. Obviously a fantastic piece but if a guy like Zacha or Barzal is available, I'd hope they give it a shot. I'd prefer Connor to both Meier and possibly Rantanen as well. And I wouldn't mind them rolling the dice with Jeremy Roy either. I think at the stage they are at, I'd look at upside more-so than the safety of the floor.

Kyle Connor goes to Michigan next year. So..

Saw that too. Conversely, Konecny is an Ottawa 67 and was captain this year.
With the Kings drafting Toffoli , Lintuniemi and Jacob Middleton from the 67's,
adds the possibility of him being on the list for the Kings at #13.

I'd be happy with Konecny as well. He's one of my favorite players in the draft, although I think Connor will be slightly better. But Konecny definitely has more ties to the Kings. As a player I actually like Konecny better than Barzal, I just think that Barzal probably has a better chance of being a classic playmaking top 6 center, while Konecny I think will probably wind up on wing at the NHL level.

He is small tho. I would be happy to have him but that is a concern. IF he became the next good Mike Richards than it's win win.

Alexander Dergachev/Dergachyov (which in the video I accidentally transposed to Dergachyev; whatever I had a horrible weekend)

Erik Cernak would be another guy I think that would fit. He's projected as a late 1st or a 2nd round pick so I doubt they'd use 13 OA on him. But he fits the Kings like a glove and he'd serve as an infusion of a big physical tough to play against style on the back-end that they're losing with Regehr and Greene down the road. Competitive and a physical specimen, similar to Regehr in his physicality, huge amount of strength and likes to throw people around and ragdoll them. Also can skate. A bit raw, but he has the tools and the basic hockey IQ and puck skills that the Kings development staff could work with.

Why is he an interesting player if you haven't seen him play?

6'4 211lb 17 yr old playing in the SEL. Didn't put up numbers, but the fact he's playing there as a 17 yr old is interesting. Plus, this write up.

A competitive winger who skates with good balance, using his large frame to establish his presence through physical play, and shields the puck exceptionally well. His offensive prowess is exhibited through his use of the neutral zone to pick up speed and momentum, his fine puckhandling ability, and his dominance on the forecheck. Filip Ahl plays to his strengths, using his intangibles and knowledge of the game to his advantage; in doing so, he can be a very difficult opponent to play against, and this is what will make him successful in the future. Oliver Kylington. Not fond of the footage, as he only played around 10 minutes in an exhibition game against Canada for the WJC, but I'll take what I can get.
