definitely like the idea of trouba/myers + ladd if they can pull it off with similar parts going each way (good ol' "hockey trade") with the sweetener for Winnipeg being draft picks and not kempe/pearson. gonna take a hit in this kinda buyers market with limited talent just hope it doesn't sting as much as Sekera last year but in dean we trust!

I doubt Lombardi does anything big because he doesn't have the assets to do so.

Have to agree here. I don't see how many valuable assets we can part with besides Pearson. Or if some GM has gone crazy and suddenly values Brown. We're not trading Kempe or Amadio, I don't think. We're bone dry in tradeable assets.

Dean Lombardi is an elite GM. Elite GM's (in any sport) make elite moves (Sekera was a great gamble, imo -- injury be damned). Lots of intriguing names floating around, some out of no where.

Let's see what the wizard does this time.

I will say, if there is a trade during the deadline, and some of our premium youngsters and prospects are involved, it'll make it nearly impossible to move Brown in the offseason via trade, with the top shelf of the cupboard that much more baron. Just food for thought.

We need Brown for this run, beyond that, it's iffy. He'll be a year older. Still, its gonna be hard to trade him if Dean makes a big deal now. Maybe the expansion draft is our next best chance, idk.

i would have said the same... but someone took clarkson's contract and someone took the full cap hit on phaneuf. anything can happen... especially with teams looking to add contracts to reach cap floor next year.

(Not that he's hurt, but that we won't be trying to acquire him.)

Pearson, King, McNabb and Forbort for Ladd and Myers

Come playoffs,

Lucic-Kopitar-Gaborik
Ladd-Carter-Toffoli
Mersch-Lecavalier-Brown
Clifford-Shore-Lewis
Ex. Nolan

Muzzin-Doughty
Martinez-Myers
Gravel-Schenn
Ex. McBain

One can dream

Kempe or Amadio are just prospects. If you can move them to shore up the D or F (core) with an impact player for a Cup run, you do it.

Picks > Prospects > Roster Players > Rings

People on this board react more strongly to Dean trading a second round pick or some potential third line winger in five years more strongly than if there car was stolen.

The way I see it, if you trade a prospect for a roster player, you're just hitting fast forward on that prospects incubation.

A prospect is intended to fill a long-term hole; if you're trade that prospect to fill a long-term hole, you win short term.

I always think how does a pick or prospect help the Kings achieve their current goals - winning championships.

Depends on if you believe that you ride Kopitar/Doughty/Quick until you can't ride them anymore and then you tear it all down and rise from the ashes 5 years later, ready to contend with a bright young new core, or...

You keep rotating new prospects into the core and replenishing so that you never have a down year and keep pumping out championships at a rate of every other year for eternity. This is also known as "The Detroit Model", which of course is a crock of ****ing **** because for the last 6 years Detroit has been St. Louis with red jerseys.

The Detroit model works perfectly if you can spend as much as you want to support those up and comers. It's no surprise that as soon as their pre-cap core was gone their contender status went right along with it.

It always makes me chuckle when Detroit is brought up in that capacity, because those management strategies are neither viable nor relevant anymore. You simply can't have that many superstars on a team for one. And secondly, very rarely do the late rounds produce star players anymore. Players simply don't fly under the radar anymore with all the information flying around.

This might be my favorite quote this month  I'm in tears.

It sounded so scientific, and then...

The Detroit Model in 2016 is defined in one word - average. They are currently 13 in the league. Nearly center. Look at their recent playoff success - Lost Conference Semifinals, Lost Conference Semifinals, Lost Conference Quarterfinals, Lost Conference Semifinals, Lost First Round, Lost First Round. I'm so tired of hearing about the Red Wings and their playoff streak. Who the hell cares? I want to be calling last or first at the draft. Wings are currently the Canucks, Sharks, and Blues of the NHL. They haven't done dick. Nothing matters outside of icing a championship team and creating a championship atmosphere. If you can't do that, make the necessary changes. I'd ride Kopitar, Carter, Toffoli, Doughty, Muzzin, and Quick into the ground and trade every prospect and pick necessary to help them win a Stanley Cup. I don't give a **** about the pipeline five years from now. I'd rather have 5 incredible years than 15 average ones.

And to the people that complain Dean trades too many picks, don't complain, it'll just expedite the process 5 years from now.

I wonder what Torres would cost from the Leafs?

Seriously though... It'd be hilarious to get the Sharks in the first round and unleash Torres on them.

Then Torres will get suspended and that's that.

Put me down as a supporter of going all in with our current core. Ride this horse to the ground, then start again. Thank God we have a bada** running the show.

This is so f-ing true. They've been riding the pre cap era coattails since their last cup, and every year we hear how great their scouting and drafting is. Before the drafting of a potential superstar in Larkin, who has stood out like Zetterberg or Datzyuk that they've drafted... anyone? I look at the Wings as one of the blackhole playoff teams, good enough to get in, but not quite good enough to get out.

The real Detroit model was "discover a previously sparsely scouted hockey population and exploit it."

The kopitar shuffle. How ****ed would this organization be without him, with say another teubert instead. Wasn't he like an 11th overall pick. Not too many players of kopis calibre dropping out of the top 5. We've got to start looking for the Chinese mcdavid.
