Probably around 1500. Sorry, we just don't care about CHL here. Some fans even want us to lose these on purpose...

That's part of the problem with the tournament right now. My team were just eliminated and I don't really care. In fact it was most likely a good thing.

As the situation is right now you don't gain much by participating unless you end upp winning the whole thing. You hopefully get some good quality pre-season games, but the playoffs are sadly a waste of time unless you win the title. All you got was a number of extra games to play (and if you are unlucky you get some injuries... Djurgården just advanced, for example, but they lost two players to injuries.... one of them being their starting netminder). And unlike soccer you probably don't get much out of it financially either at the moment.

As an American hockey fan I love this idea for a tournament. However, it does not look like the CHL is catching on. But it is still only 2 years old. MLS soccer here in the states took about 15 years to become a exciting product. There is now an interest in European sports in North America because of a growing interest in soccer. We have most soccer leagues from around the world on tv. I would love for hockey in Europe to do the same thing. I feel a successful champions hockey league which includes the KHL would garner some interest from N.American hockey fans. And get rid of those top scorer jerseys. Awful.

The further you advance the more profit you make. Last season no team made losses, most made even or profit. The prize moeny can go higher if/when mroe sponsors join in. It's been a big hit in the smaller hockey countries (such as England), which can bring in new sponsors from those countries. This kind of tournament needs stability and time

Sorry, but playoff is maximally about ten more games? Its all about whether you want european competition or not. Injuries happen everytime everywhere....

So the next round will play like this:

HV71 – Espoo Blues
Kärpät – Sparta Prag
Storhamar – TPS Ã…bo
Lukko Rauma РDjurg̴rden

Davos – Liberec
SkellefteÃ¥ – Eisbären Berlin
Frölunda – Litvinov
Tappara РLule̴

In bold the teams I think will you through to the next round.

Slovak site published an article on the CL quoting the president of HC Kosice club number of times.

Tl;dr Participating in the Champions League brings a financial loss to every club, the money received only covers a fraction of the costs needed to participate. The sporting value is the only thing that is keeping it running.

I say let's make it a true Champions League! Only include the champions of the best hockey leagues, let the "worse leagues" have some kind of qualification to the group stage.

Of course any new business venture will not be profitable right away. If all of European hockey stays committed I believe the CHL will be successful in 5 more years.
However I feel 5 changes must be implemented.
1. Less teams. I was thinking the top 14 teams from 7 elite leagues. Than the 10 teams from the challenge leagues would play the 10 runner ups from the elite leagues. The 10 winners would join the top 14. You would have 24 teams with 8 groups of 3. Top 2 from each group advance.
2. They have to get the KHL on board. I do not understand why the KHL would not want CSKA and St. Petersburg traveling around Europe. A Frolunda vs St. Petersburg would be an event. And this would take the CHL to another level. It would also create interest for the KHL if they could prove they are the best league.
3. Get rid of those top scorer jerseys and those huge ads on the sleeves. Just terrible.
4. Have games available for free on the site and them place them on youtube. Get your product exposed. Why do they charge to watch on the website. You are only going to deter people from watching and getting attached to your product. Your main goal is not theinternet viewing but growing a fan base to create interest from television broadcasters.
5. Do not begin the games in August. Seems like it is just pre-season games. Start them in mid September.

KHL proposed CHL to play a game among KHL and CHL champions during offseason.

Would be a nice thing to have if there cannot be one single European league or championship (either the KHL joining the CHL or Western Europe joining the KHL).

Tonights games (CET):

Litvínov — Frölunda (17:00)
Blues — HV71 (17:30)
Tappara — LuleÃ¥ (17:30)
TPS — Storhamar (17:30)
Liberec — Davos (18:00)
Sparta — Kärpät (19:00)
Berlin — SkellefteÃ¥ (19:00)
DjurgÃ¥rden — Lukko (20:00)

The team to me that has been the most consistent over this whole tournament has to be Davos. I don't know if they could win the whole thing, but I think they are going to go far in it.

Lol, another tifo. Fans from central europe cares so much more about this tournament than Swedish and Finnish fans... kinda makes you feel bad. :help:

I don't get your logic. Why should we feel bad for them for knowing how to enjoy hockey more than we do?

I definitely felt bad when I saw the attendances at the swedish/finnish world championships.. :sarcasm: maybe they just care about hockey more in general. Or are you precompensating for expected losses?

Agree, considering how good can be swedish fans in SHL, these worlds especially in Sweden are quite embarrasing....

Active SHL fans are not fans of Tre Kronor (except maybe at the OGs). If a finnish forward who plays for our SHL-team scores on a swedish goalie who plays for our SHL-rivals... we will most likely cheer or taunt the goalie.

Does DIF really use "Jingle Bells" as their goal song?
:sarcasm:)

And the rest is not interested? Anyway Litvinov beat Frolunda today, in front of 1100 people....Dont know what more they want....
