I was watching the LA/San Jose first period and wow LA has such a good system. I would say that the biggest difference between LA and Colorado in systems is that Kings have better support IMO. What I mean by this is that the Kings have a style where the puck carrier is ALWAYS supported by passing options. One instance I witnessed was Martinez was carrying the puck out of the zone, he had three options for a pass. He had his partner open, Kopitar open, and Dustin Brown open. And it's not only just the puck carrier, even the passing option has options if he has to get rid of the puck in a hurry. Just a very good system that supports multiple options, Kings players are at the most perfect area apart from each other, but also close to each other.

That is why if Sutter gets a new deal with some term, I would love to see John Stevens come to the Avs although it would likely be at the expense of Roy.

found this on twitter, this clip really highlights all the things what makes the kings so damn good. including the support SEPH mentioned, with and without the puck.

and why i wanted terry murray as our AC as he had pretty similar system in place there. even sutter said he only had to make small tweaks to it.

Agreed, that would have been a good choice too.

sometimes I wonder if those former HCs won't agree to work under Roy until he has a winning (playoff level) track record or at least is no longer in the cat bird's seat within the organization he was a icon for and probably has a bit more power than he would elsewhere.

In hindsight it probably would've been a good idea for Roy to have brought in an veteran coach as an assistant, much like Crawford (I believe) brought aboard Jacques Martin in Quebec/Colorado.

BTW, I'm kinda shocked that guys like Michel Therrien keep getting chances and yet Jacques Martin hasn't gotten so much as a sniff in the NHL. If the Avs were to dump Army and replace him with Martin, TBH I'd be pretty thrilled with that.

Martin has HC before right? and yeah id totally be down with that. or Murray. I guess its just a question of whether Roy will be accepting of someone of Martin's cred. Something tells me he wouldnt.

Man, unfortunately MIN simply is one of those teams that can step it up if they have to. At least in the regular season.
There may be locker room issues or whatever, when the playoffs are on the table they seem to stick together and get it done.

They have a true difference-maker.

And Chicago is one of those teams who always seems to limp into the playoffs but then go into a whole new gear once the puck drops in postseason.

Keith with a game misconduct. There goes Minnie cruising to a win.

Exactly. That combination made me really pessimistic about that game.

Right call on Keith. Intentionally high-sticked Coyle to the face after being hit to the ground. 5 minutes PP for MIN, and CHI without Keith. Oh boy.

Edit: HOSSA scores shorthanded!

Can't believe Keith of all people took such a cheap, dangerous shot.

Also, only the Hawks could take a 5 minute major and turn it into a tying goal.
