hi guys why no :eek::eek::eek:i, Wick, Monnet, Moser, M.Pluss, Seger in NT ?
and why Sprunger is never called to NT ?

Sprunger was called to NT a lot for friendlys at his prime some years ago, as well as for 1 or 2 world championships. It seems like he cannot bring his A Game at NT level.
Wick and Plüss retired from the national team
Moser was injured
Monnet was bad as hell

Sprunger has also retired.

Seger had an injury earlier this year (broken arm) which didn't heal completly.

Don't know about :eek::eek::eek:i, but he didn't actually have something that I'd call a good season.

Do you have a source for that? I tought he just is not good enough, anymore.

I don't have a source but I definitely remember him retiring from the NT. He first decided to take the 2012-13 season off, then returned for the Deutschland cup in 2013 but announced his retirement when he declined to play in the 2014 WC, if I remember correctly. It wasn't exactly big news as, as you mentioned, he wasn't a great NT player. Skilled guys with below average skating abilities who can't handle physical play usually don't work too well in international hockey.

Is this Brunner a player that we really need? His good season in Detroit is long gone, maybe it's time for him to stop pretending to be a hockey superstar. He is the most presumptuous and arrogant player I have seen in a long time.
And I am not just talking about that pathetic shootout attempt..

Agree 100%! Dude is everything but a superstar! I don't get why Pestoni isn't on the team whereas he is..

Come on, no disrespect to Pestoni but Brunner is 10 times the player Inti is. He was out of shape when he joined Lugano but the Brunner of old was back late in the regular season. Unfortunately he ended up in the playoffs against a coach who wanted to take him out.

Pestoni gives 100% every shift, every game. When he's on the ice he does everything to help his team to win and he can play on both end of the ice. Brunner is just a lazy player, who doesn't try to play with his teammates. Here I'm not saying he's a bad player, he just never gives his best. That's why his NHL "career" was a failure, he didn't deserve to play there. And thankfully Hanlon didn't call :eek::eek::eek:i, that would have been the final straw.

I hate this Brunner-bashing. He has a certain reputation (which is of course not correct) and everyone jumps on the train.

Yesterdays game was a good example of a hard-working Brunner who tried to create offence for everyone else. He also worked hard on both side of the game.

But of course he's not a superstar, but he's probably the most skilled Swiss attacker and there is a reason why he's there.

And there is a reason why neither Hanlon nor Simpson did call Pestoni. He's a great player in the NLA, but he wouldn't have an impact at the IHWC. He's just not skilled enough.

Thanks, was about time someone said that.

game was really bad and there were holes in every part of the team but it was only one game, people need to relax..

You 2 are very right. Lots of friends said to me it's a scandal the way they played.
We have to relax and judge the team later.

I mean, it's a world championship, if you play bad you loose, whoever the opponent is.

And you never can avoid bad games, they just happen sometime. You have to ask questions if there are several bad games.

Helbling was really solid, totally unexpected. But he may be a solid player for such teams, but vs. Canada, Sweden and the Czech Republic I doubt he can be that useful.

Overall I'd call that a "ok"-performance. Not bad but also not very good. Ambühl had an outstanding game, Fiala was better than in the first game, still room for improvment I guess.

Walker was very important, played a good game, I still cannot figure out why he was 13th attacker in the first game.

I just hope Kukan can be back, this would be very important for the next games.

I'd like to see Almond on the PP, together with Ambühl and Fiala. And maybe Hanlon should split Josi and Streit on the blueline.

Du Bois back to Switzerland because of his (old) hand-injury.

I guess that means he won't return. So 6 healthy defenders, Hanlon should keep the spot of Scherwey open and call another defensemen.

Uh, bad news, 6 defenders isn't enough, I'd keep that spot open too, maybe Diaz could be available
soon.
Depends on the recovery of Kukan too.

Hanlon says that Du Bois is done for the tournament. Ugly.

Diaz is in the same situation like Weber. Out of contract. I highly doubt that he'd come. He also didn't play for one month because he's already injured.

It seems to me as Kukan isn't badly injured. I guess it also wouldn't be so easy to find someone who isn't in holidays and could come to Prag quickly. I read that Loeffel immediatly went on a trip after he was cut.

I guess the next best player available on defense is Schlumpf, then the two Lausanne guys. Hopefully Kukan can return.

About the France game, I thought that Switzerland did a decent job offensively, France is a well organized team who plays a very compact defensive system around a great goalie, it's tough to create chances against them, so 35 shots is nothing to be ashamed of, especially after having so much trouble gaining the offensive zone in the preparation game two weeks ago. The biggest problem was the play in the defensive zone, there were 5 minutes late in the 2nd period and 10-12 minutes in the third where Switzerland was under pressure and couldn't find a way out of the defensive zone.

Think he is back in training with Calgary, but yeah, probably doesn't want to risk anything.

Hope Kukan is back soon, but for the Germans, 6 defenders are enough anyway ;)

I totally agree. Decent match against a team that has a really solid defence, anyway a great improvement from the match against Austria. On the other side I saw a lot of shots but not so many big clear scoring chances. Against Canada or Sweden or Czech Rep. They have to score when there is the opportunity, cannot expect those teams to leave you all the time to move the puck back and forth like France and Austria did.
As you said the big problem is find a way to play your game when the other team is attacking hard. France did it just for a limited amount of time, Canada will do that constantly and it's better to be prepared for it.
I agree on Julian Walker, his effort has been great. And for me he will always be the one that delivered that slapshot behind USA's goalie

I am fan of Helbling ... and felt he was among the few Swiss players i was happy with against our dear french neighbors. Hope he can keep it up against more skilled opponents.

tagesanzeiger.ch quotes Hanlon saying: "Maybe Wieser or Walker can play as defender".

Kukan won't play today, won't play tomorrow. Maybe on saturday. But he's still with the team, so this isn't a bad sign.
